FUCK YES.
Everything people on this board have been saying is true. Last night's Hoboken show was amazing. Maxwell's must hold anywhere from 150 -250 people, maximum, and this show had been sold out for a number of weeks. It was like seeing these fuckers in my living room, the place was so small. The only thing was that the stage was not that elevated, so I couldn't get a good look at Cody or Dale until the end of the show when the moshing began & I was able to move up closer.
Jared looks & acts like a junior Buzzo in training. His bass playing with the Melvins was the most versatile I had heard out of him, and it was truly amazing to see Big Business morph into the Melvins right before my eyes. BB's new songs sound tight as hell, and Cody is just so damn fun to watch play them drums.
The sound quality was extremely good. Buzzo seemed to be more of a bandleader than a guitar player. Or at least he seemed to be letting the rhythem section take over for this tour. Ugh. So tired. I'll try to write more later. And of course, i have tonight's concert to report on soon too :)
To qoute one of the friends I went with "that might have been the greatest concert I've ever seen."
It ruled.
Brrooklyn show: Porn shoulda played a fucking song. Joe Lally was boring. I am not cultured enough to understand Ghostigital. Big Business sounded really good in a big venue. The Melvins played songs that I liked. Pierogies and kielbasa totally made the night for me.
I'll try to write a worse review for Philly.
woah, so this is the first time I have seen the Melvins on two consecutive nights. Lots of comparing and contrasting going on. The sound at Maxwell's was much better. Warsaw's PA system kinda blows, but it isn't the worst I have heard by a long shot. Warsaw's security was also very much against anyone moshing, which kind of put a damper on the evening. Or at least I couldn't let loose like I wanted to. The setlist was virtually identical for both shows, except BB played an extra song with Dale (which was very nice) in Brooklyn. The band seemed more into it in Hoboken, but I could see much better in Brooklyn.
Wow, seeing Dale & Cody furiously jam was truly inspiring. I feel in a way like I spoiled the Brooklyn show for myself because I saw the previous night's show & pretty much know what was going to happen.
Joe Lally played both nights & was really good. Porn played in Brooklyn. I don't think they played in Hoboken, or maybe they did but before I go there. I enjoyed Porn's set, but was not motivated to buy a CD.
Fuck, my brain is scrambled from two very late nights. I'll write more later.

i would write a review but i guess richie did it for me.
-the pierogies and kielbasa.
oh. a notable part was during a pause in the dual drumming- some guy was like: WHAT??? that was pretty funny.
There better be some PORN in Philly
One other thing - Vinney had mentioned this previously & it really stuck in my head: Buzz is one creepy looking dude. I want to confirm that yes, that indeed is the case, but lately Dale has been looking even creepier than Buzz. Definitely not "rock star" material - more like David Lynch material!
One more thing - about those Mumus: what tour did they start doing this? When I saw them this time, the mumus reminded me specifically of Sunn O)))'s grim robes, but I am almost sure the Melvins did their schtick first.
new year's eve 2000, as far as i know.
and yea, dale is getting up there in the creepiness factor. i guess i notice it with buzz more because he's standing right there looking at us.
sometimes these orgasmic grins creep across his face, sometimes he snarls, sometimes his eyes roll back. he's just so affected and full of unsettling character

I did happen to run into Moss when he handed me my vip bracelet and all access pass. He seemed well. Thanks for asking.
I got to Philly late and missed Porn, but TIM MOSS said it was more of the same shit they did last night and he was bummed that I missed it because it was intended to annoy me.
I heard a couple Joe Lally songs again and I was still bored, but had the opportunity to sit with him and JARED in the dressing room lounge after the show and hearing him talk about it kind of gave me a better understanding which allowed me to appreciate it a bit more.
Ghostigital left the tour in NYC so they weren't there.
Big Business sounded good again. Me and COADY WILLIS reminisced about a really weird party we ended up at, at the dude's from Marcy Playgrounds house, like 10 years ago.
The Melvins played everything I could hope to hear. Me and DALE CROVER talked about having kids.
I just namedropped the fuck out of this post. Go to town, tools.

Even if they didn't play, I think Moss was at that show. Did you get to talk to Moss? I heard Moss was there.
What does Moss look like? is he the dude with long hair & a long beard with serrated tattoos on his arms, or was the the geeky lookin guy with glasses & schoolteacher haircut?

kurt schlagel: glasses, school teacher haircut, aka: melvins soundman
I seriously don't understand the problem you people have with me.
Glen. You can totally go fuck yourself. I have no idea who you are and I really don't care. You can be the king of this geek board. I'm not trying to move in on your geek territory. It's yours.
I know Moss. We are friends. I know Dale. We are friends. I know Kurt. We are friends. I know Billy. We are friends. I don't know Glen.
I was pretty fucking civil til some fucktard asked me if I saw Moss.

i wish i was as great as this richie goodtimes. if i was this cool i dont think i would need to namedrop the fuck out of a message forum. did you suck any cock to get the vip pass? or are just the man? what do i know sitting here in MT waiting for snow, wondering how cool it wuld be to be a guy named righie goodtimes. i'm new here obviously but this is great! everyone writes great shit and seems to love the melvins as much a i, but this guy just claims like a sulfur miner. if i met him i would probably like him but to read this shit is funnnnnny. keep loading and reloading. i am entertained and being edyoucated at the same time! HA.
"me and dale crover talked about having kids" and "Marcy Playground". that is plenty.
GLEN! GLEN! GLEN! GLEN!
wait up, i'm getting off-task.
INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW!
You guys are cute. Sorry, Jimbobber. You're stuck being you for the rest of your life.
No, you can't suck my dick. Stop asking. I don't care how many private messages you send me.
richie wrote back. i feel like i am part of the group now. i will sleep better. anyone who likes the melvies AND is actually friends with the boys is good people to me. keep us learnin man.
You're wrong. Thanks for trying to clear that up for everyone though.
you are correct sir. It really depends on the venue, but in my experience, one color gets you in to the "wings" with the sound crew etc. and another color gets you back stage with the band or "anywhere" you would like to go. This would be a very "limited" experience, but one that many memories are made of for sure. Damn straight.

see...Smellis here has had his fair share of deep connections with the band. i've communicated briefly with him about it. he NEVER flaunts this information. even when he can. not even as a joke.
it's nice
It goes back 21 years but I am sure Ritchie knows them better now than I do nowadays. Everyone changes and goes through decades in their lives, we are all different people than we were when we were young upstarts. The thing that is amazing though and it IS TRUE, Dale and Buzz have not changed with their fame and success, they are the same friendly chaps they have always been. And Moss is the perfect tour manager hell of a great guy, and Cody and Jared seem to have been made custom fit for the MELVINS mold. I could not be happier with the direction that the band is taking right now, it is as great as it gets in my opinion.
i love you.

yeah,
thats him.
the man on the right.
The only thing I noticed about BB that I will shed some contructive criticism on is that Coady at times was playing too fast, and Jared was yelling at him. The set up didn't allow them to face each other so I understand how this could happen. It was that or the Pabst blue ribbon lol.
When I entered Maxwells at 5pm Melvins came soon after and I had to fill the juke box with Kiss devo stooges and floyd...in fact just as buzz came up the stairs I had Plaster caster crankin.
