Can some one fill me in on this dinner charge? What is GAMH, a dinner theater?
I can just imagine people sitting around eating and then the concert starts, they asked to be excused, and then start moshing.
Planning on faxing for tickets Monday 8).

Don't get your hopes up, Pinky. No dining tables, although they do have a nice glass elevator where you can moon everybody in the crowd, and take a peek at the bands backside.
Is it a good place to see the Melvins?
It's alright. Bigger than a club, but smaller than a large arena. There's two or three levels where you can watch the Melvins from balconies, if you wish.
Thanks
It's an amazing venue! The sounds is spectacular, and you have great views from anywhere in the place.
I'm still curious about the dinner thing. Is it worth the extra $24? That's 6 drinks.
Never had dinner at the GAMH, but they're 'sister' clubs to Slim's, and Slim's has the same deal. At Slim's there's a balcony in back where you can get in an hour earlier than the general public, and you get a table to sit at. I believe they have simple food service there, like a hotel/wedding/conference type planned meal with a choice of 2 entrees. I think GAMH's dining area is up in one of the balconies, as well...but not in the back like Slims. It would be a good deal if you want a guaranteed seat for the show, and bar/waitress service through the show. I'm going to the GAMH show, I'd be curious as to how the dinner thing works, if you go for it, maybe I'll do it too.
I'm going without the dinner package. Bad Ronald is going and we will hit Sparkys afterwards if we can walk.
That's the best thing about doing dinner at the GAMH, you get a table on the balcony with a really good view of the stage. It kind of sucks though, because you aren't on the floor in the middle of the madness. Never did the dinner there, but I hear it's half-way decent. A great venue though (just like the name says).
Who else will be there?
1) Bad Ronald
2) Dale Crover
3) Cheeseburger
4) Thor
5) GrimReaper
6) King Buzzo
7) This could be you.
I'm going to be in attendance. I'm also going to hit the Reno venue, the day before.
I can't speak for Tastelikedirt or bUTTHOLEmAN..but I bet they'll be at the SF venue aswell.
I'll be there as well. Anyone else?
Spunk, I picked up an extra -- any chance of you flying down for the show? You know you've got a couch to crash on, and the ticket's on me.

You know how much I'd love to. I'll look around, and if by some stroke of dumb luck I can score cheap plane tix, I might take you up on the offer.
Type and ye shall receive. I just found tix for $158 round-trip.
Methinks a discussion with the wife is in order.
I'll be there.
We'll have to meet up!
Okay.
Show is in 5 days.

Oh yeah, you dont like his photos!
phew...just got back from the show. Tired! Drove into SF and parked like 10 city blocks away from the venue.
Show opened with a self-described "busker" named Hot Sauce something. He was wearing a dress and playing a ukelele. Someone yelled "Joe Preston!" at him when he came out on stage...pretty funny. He resembled Joe somewhat on the Melvins solo EPs. He got the crowd to participate in a rendition of We Will Rock You.
Altamont opened...Dale, Jared, Coady, and Toshi? They played a real short set of 4-5 songs.
More of mr Hot Sauce...
The Men of Porn. Santa Claus, Elvis, and a guy in a suit top, but no pants, just underwear and shorts. He spoke some German..... ..."genau".
Hot Sauce intros Big Business and the Melvins....
Jared and Coady played a bit first, Dale joined them, Buzz joined them....and they played! One song from the newest CD, Jared's bass went out of tune, and Dale and Coady had to do an extended drum part to kill time while Jared furiously tried to tune his bass silently. They finally ended the song and started a new one when he was ready.
Great set, I didn't figure to write it down...buzzzed.... but I did film some crappy footage of the show, I think. (Was using a friend's camera that I was unfamilar with) So I'll try to take a look at it and see if it's worth uploading.
Swapped some stories with a guy that had interned at Southern Lord and Red Stream. (Thought I hadn't heard of Red Stream...but now that I look at the website I remember I did buy some "The Ravenous" CDs from them, because I'm into Autopsy and a few of the members went on to the Ravenous.)
Met a Melissa and friend after I had eaten. (I decided to check out the Dinner option at the GAMH to see what it was all about. Choice of Prime Rib, Chicken, or Mushroom Garlic Ravioli for dinner $24!! and a house salad.)
Great show!
got a voicemail from spunkmonkey and cousin danny last night as they were on their way to the show. rubbing it in, of course.
no other contact since.
I wait anxiously.
can't wait to hear what cousin danny thought of the double drumming. seeing as he's not a melvins junkie, only a casual fan. maybe this set the hook.
Amazing show!
Got there at the end of Altamont, didn't notice Coady, or Jared playing with them (unless one of them turned into a slightly smaller asian gentleman).
Hot Sauce was great! His second song was 'I love Rock'n'Roll' by JJ.
Men of Porn was awesome, not what I expected and I was pleasantly surprised. I'll have to go get their album now.
Big Business' set was amazing! Really got the crowd going! Not sure how I feel about the fast version of Easter Romantic, the damn song is fast enough without them speeding it up! Their little 'dueling' between Jared and Dale in the middle of the song was great. Dale came out and played guitar on 'Just as the day was dawning' and 'Easter Romantic' then went back stage. He and Buzz came out at the end of their set. My question is, when Buzz and Dale came out, did they play a Big Business song or a Melvins song? I didn't recognize it but it F*CKING AWESOME!
Melvins set was great! Some of the older songs they played were great and they made the newer songs sound even better live!
Its great seeing them on the tour this late when they are really playing well together and everything is just keyed in.

Ok folks...sober now... don't know how much of what I wrote last night was accurate....but I did manage to get some clips of the show. For now, here's 5 minutes of Big Business in action.

let me know what you think... I've got some similar quality clips (15 and 20 mins) of BB and the Melvins playing new and old stuff together.
works for me! good stuff, thor!
Yeah, Like Fart says great footage of the shoiw Thor.
What a fucken night!
I started drinking with Bad around 3 pm at the Sea-Tac Airport. Caught BART at SFO and hit the city.
The guy singing We willl rock you played at another show I was at but can't remember.
Altamont tore it up. Dan was out front and Cody filled in on dums. Joey Osbourne got up and sang Pirate Love. Dale played in every group except the We Will Rock you guy.
Got right down front and I got my ass kicked by this 20 year old Japanese dude that had the worst body odor. Fuck i'm getting old. I wanted to punch him in the face.
I think I saw Cheeseburger but he didn't look like Frank Zappa enough so I didn't say anything.
Men of Porn came out and I was standing looking at the base player in underwear. Fuck.
So much music like the ticket said an evening with the Melvins and friends. So much fun last night.
Didn't meet anyone from the BBS and that kind of suprised me. I saw Ritchie standing to the left of stage thumbing his bag.
I did not record the show but will pay handsomely to anyone that can get me a copy.
Buzz looks like he lost some lbs. I cannot believe how tight this musical unit sounded. I thought to myself how lucky I am not to live in Brazil.
I crashed with Bad at an SFO friend's house. He wakes me up What the fuck are you doing? I guess I thoiught I was in bed with the old lady.
Landed in Seattle and I am the only mother fucker on the plane except ythe cleaners. What a night!
See you in Seattle on new Years!!!
Let us hook the fuck up at Pikes Pl;ace!
damn grim, you live LARGE!
That fuckin Melvins show was thee best one I've seen. I was on the side stage throughtout the night and was taking pictures. I haven't seen them yet but I will this weekend. I need to put them up somewhere. probably on myspace proflie. Anyway, BEST MELVINS SHOW EVER!!! Cheers!
indeed, this was one of the best times i've seen the melvins.(this was probably the 13th or 14th time i've seen em, it's hard to keep track anymore) the best was the three set STAG tour but hey this one ROCKED!
there is no way i could give a proper review because i was to busy being blowen away.
altamont killed
men of porn was fucking awesome (anyone catch the sex bomb groove for a minute?)
big buisness fully impressed me this bieng my first time seeing them.
melvens forget about it, you already know.
and i would bet my left nut that hot sauce was indeed jared.
saw a lot of friends and had an all around great time.
"Got right down front and I got my ass kicked by this 20 year old Japanese dude that had the worst body odor. Fuck i'm getting old. I wanted to punch him in the face." (REAPER)
Grim, I must say for the record, you ARE the man. I could only fantasize about flying across country to catch the MELVINS. SOME DAY!! Face punching would be in order, but Dale and Jared won't put up with any shenanegens.

That was a sweet review, are you going to Portland AND Seattle? See you there freak. :o
Everybody and their brother got to the show early fully expecting the Melvins to be playing as the doors open at 8. No such luck. Once again the Melvins were one step ahead of all.
Some dude came out to annoy and introduce Altamont some time after 9. He was called Hot Sauce. I think maybe he was dressed as a purple farie, without wings mixed with a 70`s hippy streets of San Francisco cop type vibe. He was playing a ukelele. He got the crowd to stomp and clap while he sang We Will Rock You.
After the audience patience was wearing pretty thin he introduced Altamont.
This was a more full Altamont line up with Toshi, Dan, Coady on drums and even an appearance from Cap`n Joey. With Dale on guitar and vocals. They played 4 or 5 songs,it was a pretty brief, but solid set. They had a real full sound. They`re better every time I see `em. The house lights came up and time to wait for the next band. Once again the Melvins were one step ahead. I was expecting this band to morph into Porn or whoever was up next.
There was a brief wait, then Hot Sauce came out again, talked a bit and sang I Love Rock and Roll. Then introduced Porn. Strange thing happened. Santa Claus, Elvis, and a guy in a sport coat w/ no pants took the stage. Elvis suggestively ate a bannana to the delight of the crowd, before he took his place behind the drum set.
Porn was up next, and they punished. Santas guitar had to be the loudest thing of the night. It`s that time of the year you know.It felt like the were floating between songs and improved rock beat downs then back to the familiar rockin songs we all know and love. They even managed to squeeze Sex Bomb in there for a while. They rocked out in a most excellent way. So Awesome.
Porn finished up and the house lights came up again. After a brief stage preperation the lights went down and Big Bussiness took the stage.
Big Business played a few songs and they pummeled. Dale joined them with his guitar.
They played a song with Dale and continued on as he left the stage. Shortly thereafter he was behind his drum set. The band continued to rock. Dale joined in on drums, and after a few minutes. The people down front were about to blow a fuckin` gasket cuz they could see none other than King Buzzo off to the side of the stage, gettin ready to rock. The anticipation was thick I tell you. Buzz took the stage and the whole place erupted, as the Melvins blasted off on the start of a long and heavy journey.

After a whole lotta rockin` Buzz left the stage while the rest of the Melvins continued to rock on. Gradually they rocked less, and Jared sang Goodnight Sweetheart, the drummers stood on the drums and stuff and that was it. House lights came on for the last time. (and guys in monkey masks jumped around)
Got back to the car in the garage across the street and found out we had been at the show for 4 hours and 20 minutes. The Great American Music Hall has got to be the littlest big place in the world. Old turn of the century theatre with GREAT sound. The non stop beating you constanly take at this show is like no other. The dual drumming is insane and over the top for so long. This line up of Melvins and friends is one of the most impressive rock show presentations I have ever seen.
I`m gonna guess the Melvins set list was something like this.
The Talking Horse
Bloated Pope
Civilized Worm
Oven
Set Me Straight/OCH
Sky Pup
Let It All Be
Blood Witch
A History Of Drunk
Rat Faced
The Hawk
You`ve Never Been Right
A History of Bad Men
The Mechanical Bride
Revolve
Hooch
The Bit
Lovely Butterflies

QuoteDid you see anyone wearing Snivlem shirts?
Only one, me.
Met cheeseburger and that's it from the board. I was slightly disappointed in Altamont, short set, and I seem to remember they were much better when I saw them in Seattle. Porn was good. It seemed like they only played one song and the rest was just them goofing around (but, hey, that's what they do). BB and then Melvins, well, what can you say, they tore the GAMH down. GAMH is my favorite SF venue (even more than the Filmore). I'm at work right now, so bye bye....
