This may well have been done already, but I am now the proud owner of a Buzz Box! When it arrives anyway.
i guess it's ok for a collectors item or whatever but as a pedal, judging by everyone's opinion it's just shit
i bought one a few months ago, it's fun to screw around with, but other than that it's useless. I bought mine for 50 euros
why buy a buzzbox?? it sucks! get a blue box, its the real thing! :)
the buzz box is fun but you can't take credit for anything coolthat it does cause it's just the buzz box doing it's thing (you can get a really good distortion out of it though if you set it right). The blue box is good but my only complaint is that it's very quiet (at least mine is it could have been damaged over the years) so I have to turn up to get the good sounds but then when I switch it off due to the true bypass (which is really very nice) its really loud.
i got a good idea. buy a boss or a more well known pedal instead of spending a bunch of money for a crappy buzz box that sounds bad.
yeah, dod pedals suck
yeah from what i heard most DOD pedals are not that good. I think my friend had a Death Metal DOD pedal and he didn't like it much, so he ended up selling it.
I used the buzz box the other day to create some hellatious bass noise. success.
i got one, finally. paid nearly $100 for it. i knew it sucked, which is exactly why i bought it. i do a lot of harsh noise stuff, and fuckin a, it's absoultely essential to my setup. you can get some of the sickest and most bizzare frequency changes out of this sucker. i love it.
DOD pedals suck. When I'm working my chops I want a pedal that really brings out the tone of my 1965 Gibson Les Paul Custom, which I run through a 1971 Marshell Tube amp. It's the only way my riff's sound rock and roll enough. In fact, I only settle for thousand dollar rack effects. Or at the very least, REAL foot pedels like the kind that BOSS makes. Or any other brand of pedal that my cool music friends like.
DOD pedals are just too noisy.

Amen dude, the noise i got out of it was amazing.
Exactly. I thought the whole point was for it to sound hideous. DOD pedals aren't bad for the price but the footswitches are shitty.
i got mine for 30 $
it's worth 30 $ not 100 $ :)
my setup is guitar -> boss overdrive/distortion os/2 (really nice) -> dod buzz box -> KORG flanger -> amp.
Its really fun to switch them all. Os2 dist to the max, heavy on buzz box to the max, and you get constat buzzing noise, so you can fuck with it using flanger. The sound is just amazing if you also turn the amp distortion on, it sounds like a moving tank from ww2 :D
i have a dod grunge box right now, and that gets some sweet feedback. oh how i yearn to run that and the buzz box together.
has the buzz box got something to do with buzzo? :))))))))
yes, its supposed to sound like charmicarmicat, the producer copied mxr blue box (which buzzo used) and combined it with grunge pedal in one box (thats what i heard)
can you buy the pedal in chain guitar/musical equipment stores, or would i have to order from DOD or a catalog?
it s no longer being made,
you have to find it ebay or stuff like that
forgot to login :<
well fuck buzzbox then :)
and: do you want to sound like buzz? (and everybody else who owns that :))
muhahahah
actually it doesnt sound like buzz, it doesnt sound even like the charmicarmicat :) it sounds like shit but you can make constant noise to operate on, so its fun.
it works fine when you sing threw buzzbox hehe just plug in your mic and scream or sth.
btw:
check out my 2 homemade videos, they're sick

tell me what do they sound like ? (i mean bands)
DOD Buzz box and DOD grunge..... wow, what a combo
mine broke just now,
it works but the bypass doesnt work so i cant play clean,
any tips ???
I have a rat and it sounds pretty buzzish
I've heard the Buzz uses the Rat pedel, but a recent post said that he only had three pedels at the GAMH, and all of them were Boss's. Hmmm....
buzz used rat long time ago

a couple things on the DOD buzz box. yes it was created on the influence of buzz osborne but buzz had nothing to do with it. that was in an article in some guitar mag interviewing buzz. he had one and he said it sucked. he did use it on the noise track on stoner witch(i forget the name) the other thing is be careful with the buzz box. it creates squarewaves. soundwaves naturally slope so the speaker gradually pushes in and out. with a squarewave, its telling the speaker to instantly be in one place and then in another with no gradual movement. that can be REALLY bad for the speaker. you will blow your shit up. and it hails satan.

buzzbox is great for what it does - vile noise. you can't get that out of the
blue-box alone. btw, dod pedals aren't that bad... well, a few of them, the
analog delays and a few of the old american series are unbelievably
cheap and very good soundquality-wise. and you won't find a better
analog delay in that price-range. some people say it's the poor mans ad9.
what i really hate is boss, most of the pedals i tried or bought sounded
cold, clanky and noisy - especialy distortion, good thing these times are
over.
i got a boss ds-1 distortion box and i agree it's not the best sound i've heard out of a box. at least i didn't pay for it.

Wow thanks for the info. Where did you find about that?
squarewaves my ass!!
lmfao!
ive never heard of such a thing.
It's true. Depending on how deep the squarewave you're working with is, your speaker can be easily be damaged.

this info came in the manual with the box. a friend of mine bought it new.
so if you turn heavy knob clockwise you get more squarewaves ?
i think its all three that you go ten on and bad things happen. on a side note, kurt cobain would use half-dead batteries in his effects to make interesting noises, but i would use an adapter with a half or three-fourths voltage required. this worked on old DOD's. i don't know if it worked on anything else.
overdrive distortion by boss sounds really good is the battery is dying. I've recorded a song like that :)
lets hear it :)
i can post it tuesday...

yes, that's what i do with my rat, i don't know why but it sounds better.
GW: One fallout of success is having products named after you. Buzz, weren't you a consultant on a foot pedal design that used your name?
KIM: It wasn't the DOD Grunge Pedal, was it? Have you seen that? The inside of the accompanying booklet says: "How to get the Melvins sound; how to get the Accused sound." I bought the thing, not to use it, but simply as a souvenir.
GW: I remember you saying, "Great, I just bought a pedal to make me sound like me."
ALL: [laugh]
BUZZ: It's called the Buzz Box, and it is put out by DOD. I had nothing to do with it. I mean, does my guitar really sound that bad? [laughs] The guys at DOD are kind of crazy; I have to give them credit for that. A guy there was always bugging me at shows about how we got the sound on the Eggnog record. I used this thin called a Blue Box, an octave divider from the early Seventies. So this guy says, "I want to design a pedal; we'll call it the Buzz Box and get that sound out of it." But it wasn't so much that he wanted to do an endorsement or anything. I think he just likes the sound of it. So he came to one of our shows an looked inside the Blue Box. He kind of duplicated it and combine it with the Grunge Pedal in a new pedal. I have to admire DOD for putting out something that insane. Yes, the Buzz Box is totally worthless. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner. [laughs]
I ended up using it on a few noise things on Stoner Witch, but the record that we used it on most was one that came out before Stoner Witch called Prick, a total noise crap record we did strictly for the weirdness factor. Complete and utter nonsense, at total joke. We've taken a lot of shit for it, too. It came out in August. I would say it has no redeeming social value whatsoever and is easily the stupidest record we've ever done. There's something to be said for that.
found this at the melvins shack with help from green honey. gw is guitar world and kim kim thayll of soundgarden. thx green honey.

It's nice to see Buzz finally come clean about Prick,
now if we could only get him to admit as much about COD 8)
I scored a Buzz Box on fleaBay and it is fuckin sweet!!!! hate on it all you want SUCKAAAAHZ!!! it's the real deal. :D
My old High School garage band had one back in the mid-90's. It's the tits when hooked up with a drum machine and a delay. Edit: Also, nice 14 year-old thread bump!
