I think it's great. I was expecting a little less silence and don't really think this is a 75 minute album, more 55 by my count (save for "One Two Three FOUR!") but after a couple of listens I'm loving it. Possibly better than the first album.

it's not as good as the first one, it's ok tho. its different,
not enough of buzz and dave on it though. i wanna hear
fantomas roar!! not lull me to sleep.

still its 100x better than mike's other so called solo stuff

This album is brilliance- Just listen to the way the peices of the song weave into each other, mikes ever eclectic voice, buzz's guitar (which at times has a very jazz sound) trevors bass and contrabass (on which he uses a bow at one point) and dave's brilliant drumming and the ambient sounds and pianos, keyboards and synths go down a treat. Its a FUCKING MASTERPIECE!

I can't wait to pick my copy up tommorrow evening!

any suggestions on how to spend the time listening to it?
anyone enjoy just sitting, or is there something that i should do with my hands or mind while listening to it?

I think I'll just be staring at the art under my black light and listen to it a few times and fall asleep to it.
:)

excellent.

my fave part is @ the 27 minute mark when Mike starts doing that crazy percussive shit w/ his voice.

that part is fantastic. overall i'd say it's an excellent album. But for the last 15-20 minutes, it doesn't demand my attention exactly... maybe if i was in a more meditative state, or just fucked out of my tree...

in any case, i woke up out of my semi-trance around 58 minutes or so. great album though.

That's the most "work" I've ever had to do to get a CD.  Waited an extra 2 months or whatever, then it was delayed another day in my city, then another 1/2 a day.  Drove though TWO blizzards, one on each delayed day(one had a traffic jam too) anyway...I just rocked it to Youth of America through the whole snow storm.  My point is:  I'm not mad because this is THE shit.  What talent, great writing...so unique and still good.  The artwork is worth its price alone--I think it outdoes Lateralus and Mit Gas.   I love the music, it's so rare and unorthodox for a band to be willing to change this much from album to album.  Its makes me want to force Metallica, AC/DC all those alike into retirement.  It's gonna take me months to be able to map this "piece" out in my head. When does "Shaq Owns You"  or whatever the cartoon themes album is called come out?  Fantomas reminds me to appreciate independent thinkers.  Is this (DC) what it sounds like in Patton's head??

i think delirium... would be great for closed eye visuals.
Someone get some mushrooms or lsd... spin it with headphones, and tell us if it's special.

Post by: Mario Lemieux on January 29, 2004, 02:23:55 AM
dude, i was just gonna post that!  i just finished on headphones and there's subtleties that some will definitely be interested in.  unfortunately, i wasn't high.  shrooms would be perfect.
this is the most beautiful album...really paints a picture.  (i for sure was doing the closed eye visuals)  so layered.  i'm certain this album will not recieve the noteriety it deserves, but whatever.

are the "movements" marked by the ER sounds?  ("stat" & the other heart monitor ones that i already forgot)  i think there were four groups of ER sounds spaced apart, but i'm not sure

wow! fucking awesome. ..again.  my ears are gone.  the monk chants, high pitched sceaming, radio feedback, catchy bass riff..how the hell does he think of this stuff?

oh, i forgot to say that headphones are good because at one point i think Patton's whispering something backwards and it sounded like x-files..awesome.  i don't remember hearing this from my speakers.  i'm gonna make love to this CD

also on the topic of headphones, i have listened to it twice with headphones, once without, and i agree that headphones are the way to go.  the thing i most noticed is the impressive use of panning.  there are many times when the sound goes back and forth real quick and it feels like your head is moving.  reminiscent of..i think it is the end of interstellar overdrive.  love that shit.  delirium cordia rocks.  i listened to it in the dark last night and let my hand go and draw and draw.  i got an interesting result.

THAT is when you know it's good music!
I'll be doing the same this afternoon with some huge canvas and paints.

"...it's so neurotic!"

shit bucksatan, that sounds FUN! i wish i had a canvas and a big empty space.  fucking college dorms....
i never realized he was saying "it's so neurotic"  i always heard it as "it's odor-otic" but your version makes a ton more sense.  buzz's lyrics on stag are especially poetic.  i was listening to it today, i think he is one of the best lyricists around.  buzz and the gang deserve so many fucking awards. they make amazing music.  too bad they aren't hot, i bet they could make good pop and be on american idol or some shit. ..though that would ruin it a bit.

cool...just finished the Delirium themed painting.
while listening to it, i used a big sheet of cardboard, did a blue background, four doors with exit signs(i was thinking of the white, swinging hospital doors) on the corners and a orangish/skin colored v shape in the middle(looks like the surgeon's chest from the cover)
music that makes you want to play music or draw/paint= :D

also...to top it off, i just checked my mail and it had the Ipecac: Fantomas tour info!! sweet!!

it sayed the tour is 'in the works' and is RUMORED to be with Melt Banana(japanese band, very, very, very cool band)
sayed to start on march(can't remember the date, but i THINK it was the 22nd) in southern cali and will END in LA mid/late April.
no word on anything official or what the tour will be of, but, whatever it is, it will be awesome!
(especially if Melt Banana opens!)

my favourate bit at the moment is around 34 mins where it comes to a noisy climax-then silence-then trevors bass riff comes in. :D

screw the review hope your all enjoying as much as i am

yeah, i still love it and would be afriad to listen to it on mushrooms in the dark.  it's getting good reviews on amazon (4/5 stars)
i like the monks chant, the "bees", wind sounds, mike shrieking, the bass riff, and the siren and the whole damn thing

I thought the review itself was pretty predictable. What was unpredictable was the fact that the Oaklahoma Daily actually took the time to let people know that they thought it sucked. Wierd.

i thought the same.  that is very very bizzare...who the hell cares about fantomas in oklahoma?  why waste time and space in their newspaper to say it was crap.  i agree heavily.  something fishy is going on here.  it's like they went way the hell out of their way to badmouth it, but not even badly enough.  scary stuff..

Gruesome yes, but very fitting the album.

By the way, does anyone know which font they use on the frontcover? I thought it was Times Roman, but the O should be a full circle. Help anyone?
