i'm really getting a crack out of how the melvins have learned to optimize their merchandise. all of these limited releases and ebay sales are most likely a first in the music industry. not only does it keep the money rolling in on a regular basis, but it keeps the melvins name in a constant spotlight. pure genius.

yeah i should have bought some of the nike's at the show i was at for 75 lol. oh well i'll get some on new years eve

I dont think it "helps" their pocketbook to be honest as far as ebay, all the ebay reseller profits go right past them. The 400 auctions on ebay at a time is advertising for them basically, so that helps them I guess. Definitely not a "first" in the music industry, but their weird merch is very much appreciated by people like myself..........
I don't think the melvins would be the melvins without all that merchandise.
Seems like the melvins are all about trying new things and doing things they've never done. That goes as much for their music as it does with their merchandise. I also think that the melvins are one of the only bands who can "get away" with these kind of things. For the simple reason that if you're a melvins fan you're a dedicated fan for the simple reason that you have to dig deep to find their albums. Once you're hooked you want the entire collection.
have to agree with that. Their "business model" though is pretty much do what you want to, and things will work themselves out. And they have quite nicely..........
When touring it's all about driving your own van and only spending money when it's essential eg new tour mumus and the dry-cleaning of said mumus.
They had to be influenced by Kiss. Look at the Solo records, the Melvins Army.
Buzz said in a interview that the people making money off the Melvins merchandise are the sellers catering to collectors. Not the band.

Don't kid yourself; the Melvins are living Phat in the Hollywood Hills, making a killing off of merch sales.
YEAH THEY GET PAID FOR SURE

cause they're secret cool! 8) 8) 8)
i think people in washington might have heard of em before to.
i don't buy any of that crap, are you out of your mind?
yeah sure it'd be neat, but until i'm wealthy there's a zillion other things on my list of stuff to buy before i get to limited edition singles, dolls, and eight tracks. i bought the neither here nor there because it was actually really cool. the rest of that stuff is garbage. i bought a melvins t shirt once, the one about why did the metalhead cross the road, but i lost it in a housefire. i have bought the entire melvins catalogue twice, so they've gotten a lot of my money believe me. sure i wouldn't mind a t shirt, but honeslty tour t-shirts are almost always too small for me. i have a c.o.c. tour shirt and a ministry tour shirt because they actually offer them in xxl, but that's it. the melvins shirts i have seen honestly aren't that great. oh you know what i think i had a stag shirt too, but the design was pretty lame. it had that dog looking thing on it, and that's all i really remember about it. i would have bought two with the flower on it, if they had had any. i would like to get a tattoo of that.
I don't know too much about the limited edition stuff... and thats to prevent me from spending all of my money on it, so don't tell me. I think its as cool as hell and I wish I could own all of it. I agree, this kind of thing is just... the Melvins. Doing what seems cool or fun at the time and figuring if people like it fine, if not... fuck them. Its part of why I love the Melvins.
However, I have mixed feelings about it, instinctively. I mean, there's nothing cooler than that feeling when you come across something you KNOW is hard to find/limited in some corner of a record store at an affordable price.
At the same time, the whole thing with collectors buying up limited stuff so they can resell to fans at crazy prices pisses me off. I remember one instance where someone I know was trying to buy a limited edition item through a magazine. There was a limit of 4 per request and he just wanted 1 for himself. The fans who just wanted it because they thought it was cool lost out to the people who just wanted to make some money.
I wouldn't care if it were Buzz or Dale or whoever on ebay making that money, but I can't stand the idea of handing my my money over to someone who probably bought 5 of it and prevented a fan who probably would have genuinely enjoyed it from getting it at a reasonable price.
I understand that's capitalism, and I'm not saying its wrong... I just don't like it.

How the hell did Europeans find out about them?
You can make a living reselling melvins merchandise.
