I'm saying night goat but not by much.

come on,  its NIGHT GOAT!  you can't put a johnny-come-lately in front of a tried and true CLASSIC.

thats like saying (A)SA or Lysol.   (A)SA is a great album, but what true melvins junky is going to put it ahead of a landmark album?

egg zactly! the Jared era is upon us. Best aquisition that Dale  and Buzz ever made!!!!
They got to invest in a true gem. On the Tight Bros stuff he is only a vocalist but man
he owns that band, put a bass in his hands and 8 years of KARP later he's both
bassist and vocalist, add him to the Melvins mix with King Coady and boys, the rest is history

i guess i am vote #3  for History of Bad Men
i like the vocals and the bass a little better
and      i have only heard it 400 times vs. the thousands of times i have heard Night Goat
that is my absurd reasoning
its like choosing purple cush over the green crystally sticky icky
hard to choose , but I will take what i have ingested less of I guess
if i had to pick one to play at my funeral I go with Bad Men

HOBM gave me chills first few times I heard it.  I guess the sentimental value is what did it for me.   I got into the Melvins around Bullhead, but Houdini really changed my perspective on music.

The era that someone first dug into the Melvins is probably why so many people went Night Goat and it makes sense.  I just recently got into the Melvins and while Houdini was one of the first albums I bought I think since my first live experiences were with the ASA catalogue that explains why I went HOBM.

Either way, hooky & heavy bass-centric songs have a special place in my book which also explains why Karp & Big Business are on regular rotation in my cd players.

Yea,  No Talent always has been one of my favorite bands, and not just because I knew them.  Brian did some wonderful production for them and the cd's sounded fan-fucking-tastic.  Didn't hurt that Benn wrote some great songs.....

for sure,   they had a good thing goin...  i ran into sweeny hte other night at a show up here of  a band called kill orchestra i think from seattle.  way cool band.  bass, drums, and sax and the bass player could hang with geddy or les, the guy was amazing.   but he was al wasted and said, "i'm wanna play some music again, i'm gonna make some calls and start up the band again."  i don;t know if it was drunk talk but that would be pretty sweet.
my copy of that disc is hammered you know were i could pick up another one by chance?  DOE RAY  is a bad ass song

I agree.  I was a little hammered last night, but I think I was thinking only about how both songs have a riff that kind of start-stop-start-stop.  Fuck, who knows what I was thinking, I had too much whiskey.

History of Bad Men. Especially live. I saw a bunch of shows on the last tour and every show when that song started the whole club just started rolling. Everyone. Unstoppable head rocking. Total groove.

My dad came to the Philly show, had never heard the Melvins before, just happened to be in town the same time I was, and even he couldn't help but rock out to that song. My dad does not rock out.

Night Goat is a great song, but doesn't affect an audience in the same way.

Nothing will change the fact that songs like AHOBM is the reason why I listen to the Melvins.
Night Goat, At A Crawl, Hog Leg, Skeeter, the list goes on!

I have to go with History Of Bad Men. The song is so much more dynamic and powerful. Give it a another year or so and it will be just as popular and dare I say even more popular a live request hollered out randomly by Melvins fans. The lyrics are infectious and the music is as well. What a feat they accomplished!

I wish the Melvins would go back to singing the original lyrics to Night Goat. The alternate lyrics don't do it for me.

I went with Nightgoat just 'cause I've been into it for so long.

For the record: after the first few seconds, those two songs aren't really all that much alike. I'm gettin' kinda of sick of people actin' like AHOBM is just a rewrite.

What about "You got high just like you do"
Or  "At the hotel, like a fix yeah!"

These are obviously different words than what was originally sung on Houdini studio album. The lyrics changed after Kurt committed suicide.

"like a hotel, like a fix yell"

were in the original.
