what in the name of fuck is wrong with you?    please explain to me what your issue is with the mumu's.
you're a fairly bright and "with-it" kinda guy,  do you not realize that the mumu's are a crucial part of the MELVINS live experience?      you would rather see MELVINS in t-shirts and jeans on stage?   whats your deal man?

not to mention the fact that mumu seems to be a moniker very near and dear to you.

k. Here goes.

Fuzzbass, myself, and two other guys, Jake and Colin, set of the day before the show to georgetown, about twenty minutes from Austin. You see, Tejas is a big place, so we thought it would be better to get there the day before and NOT drive 5 hours the day of the show. Anyway some of colins family friends let us stay the night and heres the important part:

their daughter,

SOOO FINE

We woke up next morning and headed to cracker barrel, for we were hungry, and we wanted to get a gift. we dropped some money and got the melvins a 50 dollar gift card. I figured since we werent paying for ticket we had to thank them somehow. we made it to Austin fine, cept the whole place was crawling with people. we got to the line about ten or so with like 1 dude in front. there was a gate but we got to hear The melvins soundcheck, and throught the gate we saw takeshi, wata (with a kid?) and atsuo prowling around. Anyway the line filled out, and they opened the gates. My friends and i were wondering how they were going to get all those people in there while checking rsvps but they just let us in... fuckers. I spent so much time wondering and they were just like "come on in!"

I want to take the time to say that this guy and his kid who couldnt have been older than 8, came walking up sporting matching melvins Army shirt. They kinda shuffled past me and I was like "YOU ARE THE COOLEST DAD EVER! ROCK ON MAN YEAH!" or some stupid crap like that. they kinda stopped, his kid looks up at him and they had some kinda moment or something, then he looked up an thanked me.Its really encouraging to me that stuff like that goes on in this world. I hope Buzz and co. are still playing when I have a kid.

I bolted to the pisser cause I had to go, then me and colin saw buzz autographing some of the kids stuff, shook his hand, all that. After the kid and his dad were done I walked up to him and said" er, Buzzo since we didnt have to pay for tickets have dinner on us!' it was in a cardboard holder thingy, and I think he didnt know what it was at first cause he just kinda looked at it. so theres this pause that lasted about 15 seconds the he goes... oh thanks! I told him I would see him onstage and walked around looking for mersh.

Only Boris and Pelican had stuff at the booth so far, so I figured I would wait. I got up front in time to listen to the dj play really shitty remix crap (back me up Jgarver) until the first band, panthers went on.
I wasnt impressed, kinda generic garage rock.

So after that I walked back to the mersh booth, still just Boris and Pelican. So I dropped about 100 bucks on Boris stuff, got a shirt and come discs, between all of us we got everything in the booth besides the girls shirt(s). Im still wandering around looking for melvins stuff but pelican was about to go onand h crowd was getting thicker so I decided to go back and claim my rightful spot in front. Pelican goes on, and at first they were kinda boring but they were ok. Bassey and I asked one of the guys if he liked Black Flag's process of weeding out, his face lit up and said YEAH!
So I decided that I would pick up one of their albums, he recommended the last one they put out. The guy was pretty likeable so I figured why not.

But then Boris went on and I forgot to pick up a Pelican album.
They were so fucking good, I nearly creamed myslef. Or maybe it was because wata looked so fucking hot up there. Or maybe it was atsuos sexy leopard shirt. I cannot stress this enough, they were so good. They only played stuff from pink as far as I could tell, but since that was their only album I had heard so far that was fine by me.
Takeshi was great, when they went into pink I thought my head was going to explode.
Atsuo was a real crowd pleaser, holloering into his mike and shit, thwacking a gong.
But out of the whole set, what surprised me most was Wata.
She has to weigh 98 pounds, TOPS, and shes sporting a Les paul that has to be at least 12 pounds, just fuckin nailing solos and riffs. And she did not break a sweat. she is BEAUTIFUL. I am not worthy. I also noticed at different times through the set, Buzz and dale watching from the side. Buzz eyes were kinda big, and dale had this " we have to go on after this????" look on his face. I think that they were both thouroughly impressed.

After Boris pays america back for Hiroshima, the audience collectively picks itself up off the floor, and my friends and I jsut kinda stand around talking to the security guard, He was a cool guy, name was Richter and he was a melvins fan. Then the dj starts playing his shitty remix crap, the only two song I could pick out were Slayers "reign in Blood" techno remix edition, we were talking so much shit to that guy. and then he put on that "i was getting some head, g-g-gg-getting some head" shit and we just gave up.

finally, the melvins get set up, Jared coady and dale start up and buzz stalks out and they destroy. Higlights include The Ballad of dwight fry
Oven
Bloated pope
Set me straight/dch
Sky pup (this song is sooo fucking awesome live)
all the songs you expect from ASA
they closed with oven.
It was a really good show, But i think the one I went to in dallas was better, but only because it was more intimate and there was no barier, and because they had all their gear. I think they were playing through rented stuff, becase buzz was without his beloved Rat and palyed through JCM 900s, and Jareds setup was smaller and very diferent. They were awesome, really the only band I can think of that could go after boris and still impress. I got the set list after the show but I can seem to find it right at this moment, Ill find it sometime. An interesting note, between a history of bad men and the bit, it says hooch.
But they didnt play hooch.
Hmmmm.
After the show I found out that there was mo melvins mersh. DAMMIT.
but, overall, it was a good day and I got to see 2 really fucking great bands play back to back.
Fuzz bass took all the pictures, so you will have to wait for him to put them up.

I got the Pink shirt, because A. its a boris shirt
and 2. its a fucking Pink shirt.
I also got amplifier worship, akuma no uta, and altar.
I also go the pink shirt in small for a friend that couldnt nake it, and a copy of amplifier worship for him, cause im a good friend like that.

O yeah, instead of a mumu, jared had a fucking shirt with a fucking junglecat on it. funny as shit.
and Dale=underwear.

And i was talking about the people I stayed with, not the kid with wata.

hello everyone!

everything deadcowboy said is bassically what i would say. personally i enjoyed Boris more than the Melvins because it was my first time to see Boris and, i wouldn't say the Melvins half-assed it or anything cuz they were really rockin, but it was a free show and they weren't as intimate with the audience like they were in Dallas last year. but dpn't get me wrong, the Melvins were GREAT! i really wish they had brought some merch. just a shirt would've been fine for me. but hey, i got to spend around a hard earned $200 on Boris. i bought...

a Boris shirt
Sunn O)))/Boris  - Alter, the Japanese 2 disc version
Akuma No Uta
Heavy Rocks, the Japanese version
Absolutego, special low frequency reissue
Amplifier Worship, reissue
and a very prized green-and-white clred vinyl of Boris/Merzbow - Heavy, which just came out this year and the first side is Boris/Merzbow covering "I am the Walrus"! it's fucking great. what's weird about it is that "Walrus" is supposed to be played at 45 rpm, but it's  full-sized vinyl, not a 7 inch. but the second half, "Groone", is supposed to be played at 36 rpm. huh? "Groone" is instrumental so you can play it however you want, but you know what i mean.

i'm mainly here to post the pics. unfortunately, i'm not techno-savy, so you'll have to link to my myspace (cuzz i'm soooooo cooool, but not really). the second page has all of the show pics.

no Panther or Pelican pics though. i'm sorry?

i'll have most of the pics on here eventually, probably very soon.

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/Modules/ViewMorePics/Pages/ViewMorePics.aspx?%3ffuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=44423794 (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/Modules/ViewMorePics/Pages/ViewMorePics.aspx?%3ffuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=44423794)

and, since i'm an artist and all that, let me know what you think of the paintings and sculptures.

anyway, the show great. whoever missed it really missed out.

and i've never seen so many hot girls singing along to the Melvins before AUSTIN RULES!

I thought I would already have a review posted, but due to flight complications, I am stranded at Dulles airport until tomorrow afternoon. This sucks.

Dead Cowboy, you must have been part of that crew with the Flipper and Spider-man shirts on at the front of the line. I wasn't too far behind you.

Fuck, I want to go home.

Yeah I was sporting the flipper shirt, I wear it to every concert I go to. MY friend with the spiderman shirt was a melvins newbie, needless to say we converted him into a fellow degenerate sodomite :D

Holy shit!!!! I finally got home last night. The following is a list of events that actually happened to me. I can hardly believe this myself, so if any part sounds unbelievable, I understand.

To start things off, my flight out of Austin got delayed about 40 minutes. So when I got to DC (where my connection was), I had just enough time to get to the gate my other plane was leaving from. They said multiple times to check the flight lists because a lot of flights were getting canceled. I checked mine, and it was on time so I headed for the gate. Just as I got to the gate they canceled my flight to Pittsburgh. I had the lady at the gate book me another flight, but she couldn't get one until the next day at 1:40 PM (It was about 6:00 PM at the time). I was a little upset that I had to spend the whole night at the airport. Since my cousin lives in DC, I thought I would give him a call, and see if he could bail me out. I called multiple times, but he never answered. Finally, at about 11:00 PM, he called me back, and said he would be there in 30 - 45 minutes. I waited 40, and then went out side to smoke, and await he arrival. He calls, and says he took a wrong turn, so he would be an additional 30-40 minutes. After what seemed an eternity, he got there. As we start down the road, he say we need to stop for gas since he used a lot more from the wrong turn. Well, before we can get gas, we run out. We were at a spot neither of us were familiar with, and had no idea were a gas station may be. After 20 minutes of walking, a truck full of Mexicans stop to see what was wrong. We told them, and they gave us gas for free. After we got to a gas station, we went to a bar and got ourselves thoroughly fucked up.

The next day, me cousin takes me to the airport in plenty of time. I go to check in, and they put me in the longest line there. After waiting in line 40 minutes, I get to the front, and they tell me I was in the wrong line. Slightly frustrated, I waited an additional 30 minutes in the other line for them to tell me they booked me on a flight with a different airline, and I would have to check-in with them. Not surprisingly, the other air line was on the other end of the airport, and it already looked as though I wasn't going to make it in time. I got to the other airline, and of course there is a line there. Once I get to the front, the guy tells me that the other airline only reserved a seat, they never pay for my ticket. I think he saw the desperation in my face, and just okayed everything, and said, "If you run, there is a chance you could make it." I immediately took of running to security. I was relieved to see a small line there. O yeah, I get to be one of the random people they take to the side, take everything out of all your bags, and test it for explosives and stuff. When I get through that, it is 1:32, and my plane leaves at 1:40. I ran the whole way to the gate. There was the plane, and the door was already closed. Thinking I missed it, I asked a guy if they boarded yet, and he said no. Just as I sit down to catch my breath, the screen at the gate says, "1:40 to PITT now 2:30." At this point, I an sure that the plane is going to crash when I get on it.

I finally get on the plane, and it gets pushed back. They fire up the one engine, and immediately shut it off. Then the plane heads back into the gate. The captain comes on, and assures us that the battery is just dead, so we need a jump start. Not long we are in the air. It was a short flight, but no complaints here. As we are coming into PITT, I was the most excited I have ever been. Just ready to touch down, and the landing gear goes back up in. We circle for a while, and come in again. Finally, touch-down. I leave the plane, and make my way to the pick-up area to find my friend who was picking me up getting a massive $160 for expired registration. The motherfucking end.

Oh yeah, the Melvins show was pretty good, too.

I was wearing black, have longer, fucked up blonde hair, and glasses. I remember being behind a girl wearing a dark dress thing and big boots. She was reading a paper almost the whole time.

Jared sang on Oven and History of Bad Men. I didn't take any pictures. There were no new songs. I didn't see Porn.

Setlist:
Another Fourth of July Ruined
The Talking Horse
The Bloated Pope
Civilized Worm
Second Coming
Ballad of Dwight Fry
Set Me Straight
DCH
Sky Pup
Oven
Let It All Be
Blood Witch
A History of Drunks
Rat Faced Granny
The Hawk
You've Never Been Right
History of Bad Men
The Bit
(This is from memory, so the order may be a little messed up, but I am pretty sure those are the right songs.)

Yeah, she was by herself for a while, and then a guy and a girl came, and stood with her.

yeah and he has about 15-20 pedals. in a Bass Guitar mag article he listed about 10 and he named 9 of them as  fuzz pedals. i also noticed some other distortions, including the "Buzz Box" which was King Buzzo's signature pedal, and he had a buch of other effects like choruses and pickup boosters and he had two or three wah or whammy pedals.

i thought Brian Gibson used a lot of pedals.
