hmm, i'm surprised that no one has posted a review/comment/opinion about the london show yet, so here goes.
in short, the stuff from asn sounded really powerful and IMO got biggest cheers of the night. other than that i have to be honest and say that i've seen them better. that galvanizing vibe that you normally experience was slightly lacking.
the melvins shirts sold at the merch stand was really nice. mackie must've designed them.
over and out.
Trouble is, the Carling Academy is a pretty crappy venue. That being said, this was the best-sounding show i've seen there in a long while. Not quite as good as the mighty Scala show last December, but still fine. The Biz were great, Porn were fun, and the t-shirts were, indeed, spiffy.
Hi, I am new to this forum, and still not really sure how to use it. Me an a couple of friends were at this show, It was an awsome gig. But we had to leave before the end to catch the last train home to kettering. I was just wondering if anyone knew the setlist, i just wanted to check if i missed any songs or anything. Any help would be good cheers 8)
Porn where amazing just simply amazing
Big business you can tell this tour has helped them they are so tight now especially with dale on guitar.
They where always tight but there tighter now if anyone can belive that.
And as always the melvins where brilliant.
The venue was shit and the audience was shit. There wasnt any atmosphere which i think sucked a bit of the energy from the melvins.
Why is it that people only seem to get into the main band no matter who is supporting especially when you have porn and big biz playing amazingly before?
Got a porn t shirt and a poster signed by everyone didnt meet them its how they where selling them.
Got the second to last one thanks to my girlfriend pushing someone out the way. Hard luck to them like but good for me.
Also who where the annoying 12 year olds at the front? With ear plugs in one of them cried at the end of porn and they where just tits.
Great show, with much better sound than the one at The Scala in December, and they seemed more cohesive. Does anyone know who was playing bass with Porn? It didn't look like Billy Anderson (who is apparently still with them). This seemed like Dale's night, as he played with everyone.
What? Better than the Scala show? That's impossible!
Kurdt, the sound guy usually plays with Porn.

It is impossible the scala show was better and the band seemed to enjoy the scala show more.
I'd love to play bass for porn.

why not? I've tried pretty much every other theory.
theres just that little issue of a penis (little issue.... tee hee hee). I assume buttholeMAN has one.
I assume Buzz's SISTER does not. the math just doesn't work. :D

Maybe Buttholeman is not a man at all, and actually Buzz's sister. Now, say, Buzz's sister just looooves the anal, as in, "put it in my butthole, man". Buttholeman, there ya go.

Hello, hello... Long time, no chat.
Anyhow, I went along to this so I'll share with you what few shards of memory haven't been burnt away.
Right, Porn were awesome - they're possibly the most fun, free and honest band I've ever seen. Is it DSS on bass for them? Can't tell... Anyhow, they played a suitably twisted and entertaining set. One of their songs went on for a good ten minutes or so and was characterised by it's failure to 'kick in'. Hilarity!
Big Business had Dale playing guitar with them, but to be honest (and possibly blasphemous) I'm not a huge fan. The tone Jared gets on his bass just doesn't cut through nearly enough. Maybe he needs a chorus pedal or somesuch, but Big Business always just sound like someone howling over an elaborate drum track. If Jared could reproduce the bass sound from A History of Bad Men live, I'm sure they'd be awesome but as it stands I find myself willing them to finish whenever I see them...
As for the mighty Melvins themselves? Lots of material from Senile Animal (as you'd expect, I suppose), which doesn't float my boat nearly as well as the mid-90s stuff, but sounded good. And like others in this thread have said, the Melvins have been better than they were at this show - but the set did span a fair few records (the crowd never fails to be amazed when Oven gets aired, it seems) and they ended with a Jared-led rendition of Lady in Red, which was the best end to a Melvins show I've seen yet, I think.
I don't know...I enjoyed myself, but this show was decidedly less mind-blowing than other shows I've seen. That said, that could have been because I had the misfortune of being at the front and having many of the great unwashed 'mosh' into me. Why do people feel this compulsion to beat the shit out of one another just because a band is onstage? Or more appropriately, why do they assume that everyone wants to take part? I despair, really I do...
Not bad, Melvins, but sadly this show just didn't have the same spark as a show by the Melvins usually does. Still, Porn were awesome and we mustn't forget this!!

The Melvins where the same old Melvins i just think that it was the crowd that ruined them. But porn where awesome.
