Btw, that interview made me watch another interview and another one and before I knew it my entire evening was filled with PiL yesterday. Read several interviews, listened to their music... so damn interesting. I like their approach to music. I think there are resemblances between Liars who I saw recently, and this band.

From an interview with Lydon, I really liked his answer. From http://www.fodderstompf.com/INTERVIEWS/john2.html

From the top of my head, the Sex Pistols were meant to symbolize the death of a rock and roll, the end of a period. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of senile animals out there who didn't understand that, and took it the wrong way.

I remember I watched a documentary about Sex Pistols some years ago, and it was mentioned that they in fact was boy-band, assembled together like Take That and Backstreet Boys, because of their image. Here`s something i picked up from the www:

"Im not sure if you didnt know this but the Sex Pistols are a boyband. The band was assembled by Malcolm McLaren and they were not very good friends or anything before the band started..."

From Wikipedia:

The Sex Pistols
By 1975 McLaren had started to manage The Strand, the band who would later become the Sex Pistols. During this year the band changed direction and McLaren saw his chance to bring the 'punk' scene to London.

After finding a new lead singer in Johnny Rotten after an audition in SEX, the band was renamed The Sex Pistols (McLaren stating he wanted them to sound like "sexy young assassins") and the line-up consisted of Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and SEX employee Glen Matlock. The band played a few small gigs before eventually becoming sought after by record companies and were eventually signed (with a large advance) by EMI in 1976.
