FYI:
We got 800 copies of the Book/CD in a few days ago and we've been packin' 'em up like crazy. They look/sound great. It's hard to believe these songs came off a 20 year old cassette tape. These will be shipping out to you guys on Oct 1. We'll start sending out overseas orders next week as those obviously take a little longer to arrive.
We don't have too many left for mailorder so if you're interested in pre-ordering...get on it. Stores should have them on Oct 9th.
We're throwing a big release party on Oct 5th at Tir Na Nog in Raleigh NC. Brian's band "Double Negative" and local faves "The Loners" will play. Food will be served, good times will be had.
Beers,
C

Now I can quit checking my mailbox until after Oct.1.
As of the end of this week...all the pre-orders we have recieved will have been shipped so be on the lookout for them. We started early as they were starting to get in the way.
There are 27 copies left for pre-order if anyone want's em. Otherwise they'll go to folks who attend the release party on the 5th.
Thanks a shitton for all of your orders.

Yay I got mine today. Good stuff so far I like the story of the girl at a melvins concert was convinced that Buzz killed Kurt Cobain so he got on stage and just kept repeating I killed Kurt Cobain until she went to attack him and got taken away ha. I still have to listen to the cd though.
I ordered the book/CD from CD universe a couple of days ago cause they sell it for 10$.
Here's the link if anyone wants to buy it there:
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7515507&BAB=M (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7515507&BAB=M)
I like that store cause it's always very cheap.

I don't know where I found this some time ago.
Is that the one you mean? Or is that an old one?
Magical Melvins Moments...

It was on Brian Walsby's MySpace.
Yeah, thanks.
Mine hasn't been shipped yet :( I ordered mine through redeye. It'll probally get shipped soon and atleast then i know i'll get it within a day or two of shipping. Can't wait.
YES. Got mine today. This thing is awesome. The CD rips, and the book IS the best one yet. Brian Walsby is one funny son of a bitch. The Black Flag stuff in there is too much. Someone should give Rollins a copy of this. I wonder if he'd be offended or laugh his ass off. Probably both.
Brian's line-work should be mentioned too!! I like the weight of his pen and inking

I know that means something else, but it just sounds dirty :)
its more of an artist/illustrator type thing, i have to like an artist's ink work
to appreciate his stuff, Daniel Clowes also comes to mind, I also like Seth
and Chester, the last two are a bit non hetero but thats ok.
If Brian comes on here, I'd like to see some of his pencilling, before the inking stage.

Yeah me too. That'd be really interesting.
I got my copy in the mail yesterday - a belated birthday present ;)
It all looks really cool, and the demos are awesome. I really enjoyed the Melvins tour story, and Brians ability to emphasize parts in funny stories in general, very sharp and sophisticated. Job well done!
Have been enjoying it very much myself as well, especially the tour-diaries, but the only shitty thing is the gluing of the magazine which fell apart almost by the time I opened it and there now thus are several loose pages, which sucks.
btw, is that really Buzz singing on Vile Vermillion Vacancy? Haha he sounds like a little girl!
what fun it was to read back through the small mention of the Chattanooga show - being in the balcony, I got the full view of the Ron-goose-step-kick-out scene - funny stuff. Walsby drew some really funny posters the next evening in Knox-vegas dedicated to Ron, but decided to keep them at the time (was going to buy one of them). oh well.
peace,
ts
Mine started falling apart shortly after I began reading it as well. I emailed bifocal about it.
Well shit...Brian and I have been having contests to see who can tear them up the fastest. It's hard work. Perhaps you guys should send me some of these defective units so I'll have the upper hand.
Mine's holding up just fine. :)
anybody outside usa (europe) who preordered it from bifocal and still not got it?
do you guys remeber if you got any confirmation from bifocal when you paid for it?

I got a confirmation from paypal but not directly from bifocal
I pre-ordered from Bifocal, live in WA State USA and just got mine yesterday. It probably will get to you Europe folks soon. This is one of the coolest things I have ever got for 10 bucks!! I love the part at the end of the tour diary where Walsby leaves and Buzz and Moss are crying like babies HA-HA. The book is absolutely wonderful and the demos CD is outstanding. This is how the MELVINS used to sound back when I was a young-en in high school. Even then Buzz had some great riffage and timing, and his voice is very young sounding, but you can hear the underlying Buzzo growl. I love the buzz- saw tone he has in the mid range notes, haven't heard quite the same raw sounding tone since Bullhead. Pretty good recording for a 4 track. This book and CD is brilliant, and every MELVINS fan should get it. Walsby if you ever read this THANK YOU YOUR BOOK IS COOL AS HELL.
Got mine yesterday.
Well...............How do you like it?? I can't let mine go and listened to the CD all day.
I just got mine, so I expect Europeans will get theirs in a week or so.

Haven't had a chance to read or listen yet. For a total dullard, I can get busy at times.
** an edit of sorts**
Listening right now. I LOVE Vile Vermillion Vacancy. I would murder to hear that live.
On a side note.......I did get mine yesterday, but it was absolutely crushed. the book corners were mashed, and so was the cd case. Paper case, but crushed nonetheless. Still, such a good listen.
And Repulsion slays. Like the first time I heard "At A Crawl"
When I read all the comments about the book and CD I can hardly wait any longer.
Still I'm gonna have to wait one more week I guess.
Damn it. I want it NOW!!!
Yeah Idle, your favorite songs on there are mine as well. THAT'S how I TRY to play guitar, them's some good heavy riffs. So glad I am not a shredder. Actually, I'm not much of anything, but I know what I like to imitate!! These old tunes remind me that (the) MELVINS have always had that odd timing thing going on since the old days. Buzz and Dale sure were meant to play music together fo' sho'.

Exactly! It's too easy to classify it as punk rock, metal, hardcore or whatever because it's so much more than that. Progressive, jazzy, I have no idea, but every time I listen to GPT it's so fucking insane how they put that stuff all together. Really, it's crazy. And that as your first album.

same thing happened with mine. c'est la vie. i just read the tour diary portion of the book and it was a fun read. i'll take in the rest whenever i can...
someone should scan it so i don't have to open mine, if i ever get it.
Mine still hasn't been shipped yet. Bugger.
I know that mine was shipped two days ago but it'll probably take a week or even more to arrive.
It's really starting to piss me off.
Apparently it's available from Amazon now, although it said ships in 6-10 days. Still haven't received mine either, BTW, but for some reason it's shipping to my sister and she's out of town this week.
I hate to be a dick but I just got 2 more that I ordered from CD Universe last week.

Mine has to be shipped from wherever to redeye in Australia and then to me. That's why it's probally taking so long.
Hang in there, you'll get it and you are gonna' love it too.
Your local record stores should have them now. If they don't...ask them why as I'm sure they know who the Melvins are. If not, we just got another box of them from our big distributior (Mordam/Lumberjack). Direct orders from our site go out within 24 hours. All orders placed before 9/26 went out on 9/26. We've only gotten 2 copies back because people moved. Those have already been re-shipped to the new address. As of right now, we have about 37 copies here for mailorder. Brian will have a few when Double Negative heads out on their Canadian Tour later this month. The Melvins will get some in TX for their current tour.
Good luck tracking them down.
You can still get the last remaining copies of Brian's MANCHILD 1 from his web site: www.brianwalsby.com. It's thick. MANCHILD 2 is still available from www.bifocalmedia.com.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think Brian's about to start doing limited runs of T shirt designs too. I've seen of few of the designs and I've already got dibbs on a few of them.
C
this sucked. double negative played here and i knew nothing about it!
I'm seeing them here on the 20th, hoping to get the Manchild 3 book and CD jacket signed!!
Yeeeaaah! I finally got mine and right now I'm listening to the demos. 'We got worries here' is a great song and Vile Vermillion Vacancy sounds nice too, I didn't know that it's almost the same as 'Vile', the beginning is different but the lyrics are the same. Buzzs voice sounds unusual. 'Let god be your gardener' is always good, and the ufo noises at the end of Repulsion are cool. All in all it's a great demo cd I think. I've already glanced through the book and it looks nice, looks like good stuff.
I still haven't gotten it, but I was billed for it. :(

The book is great.
The tour diary and the stuff about Black Flag and the eighties hardcore mascots...
Brilliant. Cracks me up. Good job Walsby, really, really good. The best thing is, he knows what he's talking about.

They have copies of this in smelly old english record shops now; therefore I have one. The demos are very good indeed, especially the unreleased tunes. Good to hear some tunes without the weirdo Ozma production too. Off to read the book now!
I love the weirdo Ozma production. It sounds like a a machine. An awesome machine.
I just checked and apparently mine will be shipping 'soon'. :?
Still waiting, huh? That sucks. I thought I got mine pretty late... Well, hopefully you'll get yours soon to see
what a beauty it is!
I haven't read the walsby book yet, but the cd is really good! His voice sounds awesome!

Maybe. I hope they weren't trying to deliver it and it fell out of their pouch.
Everyone who ordered from Bifocal should have gotten theirs as they have all been sent. We got one back that was aimed at Paul Averbeck with a foul address.
On another note: the Insound contest is up for a few more days. I'm sure anyone who enters still has a pretty good chance of winning that stuff as they are only drawing from the entries with the most correct answers.
Here's a link to that:

We have a few left here and I noticed that Amazon still has some copies up for grabs.

I should point out that i didn't order mine from bifocal. Kind of wish i did.
WooHoo, finally got it! Probably doesn't help that I moved in between when I placed the order and when it shipped.
I found out that mine shipped today. I should have it by tomorrow or the next day. About time. I'm very excited.
this is worth it for the CD alone
way better than the mangled demos IMO
buy it
I apologise for yelling at your eyes but....
I GOT IT TODAY!!!!
Listening to the CD now, really damn good. Had a quick flick through the book just before but i'll probally sit down and have a proper look later.
It actually got delivered as i was leaving for work this morning so i had to leave the un opened package sitting on my kitchen table until i got home. It was a hard day (well half day today) waiting to go home to crack it open.

Same here...it's like a mini sounding buzz on the demo recordings...It's quite awesome to be honest and that book looks pretty sweet. I read the first couple of pages and found it quite good, I'll read the rest later when I get the chance.
A+
what about this goddamn contest?!? anyways, finally ordered mine today from interpunk.

It'd be nice to announce the winners sometime soon, like you pwomised :(

I ordered it, well... my cousin ordered it from amazon since I don't have a credit card and she does so I got the CD/comic plus five more CDs. The comic looks good even though I haven't had the time to read it properly. By the way, the real title of track #5 is "Vermillion" or "Vermillioin"? I thought it was misspelled on purpose.
ver-mil-eee-oh-in
sounds good to me.
Loving the comics. Great work.
Reminds me a lot of Crumb in places, and that can only be a good thing!
So...Walsby's been telling me he's got a blog for a couple of months now. I finally looked at it today. It's good.
