Title: Rob Halford in Melvins??
Post by: Goddamn on February 27, 2008, 09:15:06 AM
A little bit of news taken from the latest issue of Rock-A-Rolla mag www.rock-a-rolla.com (http://www.rock-a-rolla.com): apparently an "Ipecac spokesperson" stated that the new Melvins record "is shrouded in mystery, all we heard was that Rob Halford is the new lead singer"

This could be a joke, but then Halford guested on a Queens Of The Stone Age record, and this is the Melvins so anything is possible...

That would be interesting considering that we all love Judy.  However I must call   :bs:   until I see further evidence.

I'd dig it if the next Melvins classic rock cover was Priest's Victim of Changes. Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" as the B-Side.

Two riffs just begging for that big Buzzo sound.

halford (JP) and the melvins do have the commonality of covering the same fleetwood mac song - honestly I like both versions........ it's joan baez's that really sucked big time.  the original's not too bad, but would come in 3rd.

Buzzo can make any riff 10x better and heavier.

Just listen to Going Blind.

Sure Buzz knows how to turn a riff into gold but it's the riff itself that contains all the opportunities of that riff.

And don't underestimate the combined force of Buzz and Dale, Dale always enforces Buzz's riffing.

Halford: a top or a bottom?

I vote for "bottom."

I'd have to put the Melvins version first, the original second, and Judy's third.  The original is so much heavier than Judy's just by virtue of being slower and less noodly, plus bigger drums and such.  The Melvins version is a cover that stays much truer to the original than Judy's, and gives it a steroid boost of Melvins goodness.  And the noisy low-end outro is fantastic.
