I'm listening to "The Bloated Pope." The ringing telephone sample at the beginning sounds exactly like the ring on my home phone. My headphones give everything a slight echo.
I know the sample is there, I still think my phone is ringing. . .and it's driving me nuts.
Yeah, I know, random
True. Random as hell.
But now that I think about it, the title "The Psychological Dangers of the Best Track on Pigs of the Roman Empire" really would make a great title for a future Melvins song...
I used to have my ringtone be the codec message from Metal Gear Solid. Every time I played the game, I thought I was getting a phone call.

This has got nothing to do with POTRE but I had to think of it when I read this post.
At the beginning of 'At The Stake' there's this very quiet whistling noise that kinda sounds like a plane flying, really high, and it's not yet above you but you hear it coming closer from far away... Now everytime I hear a plane like this, I think 'At The Stake' is playing somewhere... oh well. :|
Pink Bat
Pigs of the Roman Empire.
Pink Bat
POTRE, but they're all very good songs.
pink bat to you all,
as a young boy growing up in Michigan I would listen to the TOOL album Opiate. And during the end of the song Opiate beneath all the noise and oloudness you can hear an old ringing phone like the phone at your grand ma's house. even though i didn't have that kind of ring then it still tricked me.

they should have made that whole CD one track like Lysol and Collossussssssssssss. that is one of my favorites.
Why? Track marks are helpful.
Not if you hate wearing long sleeves.
Not that I would know....
At least that you're aware of...
I mean...
Nevermind.

having a single track album is good in some cases, in my opinion, because it forces the listener to take in the album as a piece. With albums like Lysol, I think it would've been OK to divide it up because there are easily identifiable, seperate parts to the tracks that the listener can just skip to without a buildup into the song and it wouldn't ruin the feel of the song. You don't NEED Roman Dog Bird to enjoy Sacrifice, it's solid enough as its own piece. They could've just as easily made Hung Bunny and Roman Dog Bird one track and divided the rest of the song into seperate track.
but with something like, say, Boris' album Absolutego there would be no point separating the main song into several different tracks because it isn't divided into easily-identifiable movements or sections. The beginning and all the bits in between work together to make one piece. You'd be skipping into the middle of the song and all the effect would be gone because you didn't hear what came before.
At least that's my general outlook on the "single track vs multiple track" albums idea.
im against one track records.
i actually edited Maggot to have each song an their own track. that was annoying .
honestly i had no idea what any song on lysol was called until i just read that Roman Bird Dog remark. I feel im a prety big melvins fan , but i guess not. i just dont pay attention to the track names with Melvins. seems like they just name them to be cute with out much thought so i don't give them much thought either.

i never take note of track names either, im a track 3 off that album kind of guy.
Lysol bugs me because it is just one track. I fast forward the first 13 minutes and listen to the rest. In fact, the next time I see Buzz, I am going to punch him in his gullet.

you can find that on any public tracker or slsk retracked.
I'm all for splitting tracks, it's more convenient and user friendly. I'm even more for fucking with your audience.
i don't know. i go with the whole argument that it forces the person to listen to it as a whole. and i think Pigs is one of their most underrated albums. there's a lot going on there.

I think it's rather underlistened than underrated. From my experience, people who have actually taken the time to LISTEN to it, love it. Those who listened to it once or twice hardly have a right to speak, that's my opinion.
i listened to Lysol in the car yesterday after typing that and realized i might be ready to part with that one too.
if i sell it i'll let yall know. thinking about gettting rid of Your Choice Live too.

Indeed. When I listened to it for the first time I liked it, but wasn't exactly blown away. I kind of forgot about it for some time and then listened to it again, and now I love it. The soundscapes and music match perfectly and I wouldn't mind if it was only one huge track, I think it should be listened to as a whole for best results.

very well put mr recess. the 1st time i listened to Pigs i actually wasn't too crazy about it. but after blaring it through the stereo a couple of times, i loved it. so to all you haters out there, give it a couple more chances.
I can't see how you could enjoy the melvins and not enjoy POTRE. I see it as an album that best represents what the melvins are all about.

Pink Bat.
For the record though, I think the live versions of POTRE and Toadi Acceleratio are superior to the album versions.
