Title: Some thoughts on Salad...
Post by: Reverend Ebeneezer on March 15, 2004, 11:22:34 AM
I'm watching Salad high right now and Dale's so funny looking he's almost cute, in some strange and of course purely hetero way.

And Joe was SO pissed off when he thew that kid...christ. Anyway, getting back to it...

I like it alot. I think Joe throwing that kid off the stage is pretty damn funny. Dale seems to smile alot in this, but maybe that's just me.Buzz is always making feedback, which I like. And there is nevr a pause between songs. Good show. The mosh pit starts looking like a bunch of swaying zombies about 4 songs in.

the last part of boris is awesome, when dale is standing on his little chair in his speedo. the intro of If I Had An Exorcism is also hilarious

Anyone notice that the band as a whole seemed a whole lot friendlier on Salad than they do nowadays? I mean, I've only seen them once but there was no banter with the audience at all...they just played and left. In any case, next time they're in the UK, I shall be at every date...

yeah they did the same thing in amsterdam, they came on stage, played and left. dale waved at the end of the show when he walked off stage but that was it. buzzo and kevin were suddenly gone after they had played played their last note

I bumped into Kevin in the street before the show but I was so shocked to see him the only question I managed was 'how do I get to the venue'...I know, I'm lame.

Still, he seemed friendly enough, if a little surprised to be recognised. Well, either that or he was scared...

for some reason i don't remember them bantering with the crowd on the dvd either, at what point did you think they seemed friendly?  these last few tours i had been comparing them to the old days when they just went out there and just did their thing and left, as opposed to the deutrom era - 2000 when they talked up a storm.

Yeh the only thing I remember them saying on the video is, "everyone's gonna have to mellow out a little bit."
Oh and Dale saying hello to his mum...heh.

What's the scoop on this DVD business? Are there any 'special features' as is usually the case when something is re-released on DVD and some huge corporation wants to make a couple extra bucks. Also, what's the song list look like?

Well, they said 'Thanks' a couple of times! More than we got for our appreciative roars and cries for Hog Leg.:D

Influence of Atmosphere is between Anaconda and We Reach, but they didn't bother to list it.

The one time i saw them live - about the time when Honky was released and mark d. was on bass - before they started Mark D. did a 'fist' at the crowd then he said 'My name's Sheryl Crowe and every day is a winding road' - hahaha

I would've seen em at the exact same time as you idiotboy, during their '97 tour of Australia ...and have to admit it was the best (not only cause it was my 1st) Melvins gig I've EVER seen - the band as a whole were alot more audience friendly (you can hear proof of this on the "Alive At the Fucker Club" cd - which was recorded in Melbourne) ...so as a result the Mark D years will always be my favorite - he was really funny (even when being completely sarcastic!) and very talkative on stage, which is something sadly lacking in the Melvins of today

I was even lucky enough to go to an instore signing which only about 30 other people showed up for (it was an extremly cold winters night in Melb.) and was absolutely blown away at how friendly all 3 of the guys were - Buzz didn't even need promting with questions, he just started chatting away like I was his closest friend!!!

:D

this is the Melvins I'll always remember!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Necro bump.

Joe was selling t shirts at this show and my impression was that he was not happy about that. The shirts were bullhead and Melvins fiend club parody with the Boner records Black Flag thing on the back

I borrowed this on VHS from a friend who was already onto the Melvins when I got into them.
I didn't know any of the songs. The quality was a little lacking. The cover made me hungry for some goddamn jello. I should watch it again.

I watched my dvd version not that long ago and I still think it's great. It's a hell of a setlist. I do hate the spinning part during If I had An Exorcism. That part is stupid annoying plus it makes me queasy.

I could do without the close ups of Dale in his Speedos.

Was happy to See the DVD release finally after years of Trying to Track down a VHS copy with no luck and the prices on the internet were not cheap either.

You can Tell buzz is about Ready to Kill Joe when he doesnt Come in when he is supposed to at one part of the Set and he is Just Off in space being a fuck-goof.  :o

My Dad watched some of this with me and all he said was: that Drummer looks FRIED!

The best part is when Buzz Busts out the ampeg Guitar for the last couple Tracks.  8)

My friends all point out the one guy down in front in the Blonde hair with Stripey T-shirt looks like Kurt Cobain himself.  :o

The last few Tunes he is using it right near the end, and its only briefly. (Its the same or similar to Guitar used by Black Flag during their show on the decline of wester civilization Video) its got black Electrical Tape around the Humbucker to Either hold it in place or Dampen it a little from being too rowdy.

definetly used it for recording some tracks on EGGNOG, its what gives off that Ear splitting Screeching Feedback!!!  :buzz:

I thought it was the Ibanez Iceman (or whatever its called) But Anaconda posted me the Pic of the Ampeg Guitar, Damn Stupidly Rare Guitar, would look Choice with a set of oversize Ludwig Vistalites!
