So I go to get my ticket for the Melvins at the Music Hall of Williamsburg & they want 25 bucks for each ticket. At first, I thought that was some sort of fuel surcharge tacked onto the ticket price, but then I check the prices of other dates & they are the usual $15.00.
What gives maaaaaaan?

I lived in Baltimore for 10 years, amonst other cities (Queens NY, MPLS, Des Moines, etc..) and would live there again if the situation came up. Its a great city.
I think if you can get tix for $25 than that's a steal! For the shows I'm attending they're $20 without service charges, which isn't bad that bad, and $25 isn't much worse.
You could buy four Melvins tickets or one Madonna ticket.

i think it's because the bowery is buying up all the non-clear channel venues. they can raise all of the prices for all the mid-level shows.
on a side note, i went to the mercury lounge earlier today today to get 6 tickets. the girl there said there was a 4 ticket limit. so i turned around and asked the guy behind me to buy me 2 melvins tickets and the girl said that she wouldn't sell them to him because she saw me ask. what fucking ball breakers. like there's such a high demand for melvins tickets i was going to put them on ebay. fuck the mercury loungue. they're all staffed by d-bags.

Not to mention they are playing a couple of shows that sound like they'll be free (someone said at Amoeba music, which, if it's true, will be free, and there's a listing on Ipecac for a show at the LA Historic State Park, which I can't imagine being charged for)

Okay, I was expecting to get shit for this post, especially from the Aussies but to reiterate, here is my point:
The folks at Mercury Lounge asked for 25 bucks for the ticket. I GLADLY handed over my hard-earned money to see the best band in the world. I think this will be my 10th time seeing them. If the Melvins asked 3x that much, I would still pay it - because I would think they had a good reason (gas prices, someone's in the hospital or college or whatthefuckever). But then I do some research. In the info I can find on ticketweb, other Melvins shows on this same tour are 10 bucks less. I am beginning to become suspicious that the more expensive ticket is not due to the Melvins, but due to the promoter as danimal pointed out. It also looked like Bowery Presents switched to Ticketmaster instead of ticketweb. Who knows, maybe ticketmaster is affecting this price.
The price increase is irrelevant to me; it's the principal of the thing. Melvins tickets elsewhere are 15 bucks, why not in NYC?
Forgive me if i'm being stupid, but how are prices in general in NYC compared to everywhere else? Over here everything is more expensive in London and you can expect at least

I was surprised at the $25 ticket too. I went too the Mercury Lounge ticket counter to avoid the stupid Ticketmaster fees.
Too be honest, it does seem about right. All these years I couldn't believe Melvins tickets were only $15 or $17 or at least under $20. The first time I saw them, I think I paid $12. I thought they were the best band ever, and had the cheapest ticket prices ever. Like others have said, I'd pay a lot more than $25 to see them.
the ny prices are usually a gew dollars more than other cities. i think its been 17 the past few years. the price increase didn't effect my descision to buy a ticket. .i spent the same to see dethklok, but there are few other bands that i would spend that much to see anymore. i'm more pissed that the bowery is monopolizing everything. i'll still probably spend a bit more on merch.

My ticket after charges and all that shit for the Seattle show came to almost $34. Plus gas, plus hotel, plus beer, plus food............
It's easy to say that he's whining, but you have to realize it's a possibility the Melvins aren't seeing any extra cash from this. If they're able to charge $15 other places, why would they intentionally raise the praise to $25 for one city? If it was the Melvins trying to make more money, the tickets would be $25 everywhere.
It seems to me like the venue or ticket broker setting a higher price to make more money that the Melvins will probably never see.
That said, I'd happily pay $25 if the Melvins came to my state. Hell, I'd probably slip a few $50s into Buzz's hair and fellate Dale behind the dual-drum kit if it came to that.

yes...and I know that the lollapalooza line up is a little weak.. but i said to myself..ohh what the hell nine inch nails and radiohead I think they gonna put a great show. Ive seen rage in coachellla last year so what the hell. but THE MELVINS is the band that makes me feel like a free human being...those riffs makes me run and scream!!! :D
