Wow. I don't know where to start.
Okay, the show took place at this old WWII bunker that turned out to have a really nice place for shows on the 4th floor. Although I already saw Melt Banana there, it was a different room, bigger and way more comfortable. I have to say this might be my favorite venue in Hamburg so far. Well, I headed towards the merch table and was pleased to see the 'See You In Hell' shirts. I also got the Big Biz tour EP III and the Porn/Merzbow collab. So if anyone's hoping to get a copy of the Tour Ep on this Europe tour you might be lucky. No trick and riddle book though. Unfortunately they didn't have the posters for the show either; you know, the one with the owl. I was hoping to get one of those.. Instead, they had posters from 2007 and stuff. I asked the merch guy (who was British as far as I can tell, anyone got an idea who it is?) why they didn't have them and he said that they didn't get them in time. Bummer. So I bought an older one with a skunk on it. After spending some cash I went to the stage and got a nice place right up front.
Tim Moss got on stage and messed around with his noise arsenal.. it was really loud and intense. Dale and Coady followed and started beating the shit out of their drums. They blew me away, literally, since Coadys kick drum was constantly blowing wind right at me. It was unbelievable to watch Dale play, and it was just the beginning. I often found myself staring like a madman, the drumming was so fucking intense. Dale even stared back at times which made it almost creepy but really cool nonetheless. It was a nice beginning for the show.
There was a short break between Porn and the Biz, but then Jared and Coady finally stepped on stage and started with Hands Up. I don't know the order of the set list, but they played Start Your Digging, two new songs (the one where he sings something like cats, mice, that's what I hear) which sounded great. Also Grounds for Divorce, Just As The Day Was Dawning, and The Drift; no Cold Lunch unfortunately. Send Me A Postcard would have been too great. Dale filled in on guitar and did a really good job. I wish their set would have been longer, but I guess I can't expect that; Of course they kicked ass nonetheless, as usual. What an awesome band, they blow me away all the time.
Another short break, and Buzzo gets on stage. The whole crowd was cheering and going crazy and Buzz stood there smiling which was really cool. The new guitar looks beautiful in person. Then they started with Nude With Boots. The drums are something you have to witness live. Of course, not only the drums - everything sounded so fucking good. I have to say the crowd was really cool, they were into it but there was no stupid behaviour like climbing on stage etc. I didn't even notice a lot of moshing, maybe when they played Honey Bucket, but still no one was acting stupid and everyone had a blast. They continued with Dog Island and Dies Iraea. Civilized Worm made me feel really good and I've only seen it live once. Kicking Machine. The Nude With Boots material sounds great live, it doesn't compare. There were a couple of people who seemed to be digging the NWB material more. At least that's how it seemed but it doesn't matter. After Kicking Machine they played... the one and only.... EYE FLYS. Sweet Jesus. I'm so glad I got to hear it live. Of course I recorded it. The Suicide in Progress and Billy Fish combo could never bore me. I still love both songs. Then it was time for some Stag, with Tipping the Lion.. I recorded it as well because I felt I had to capture some STAG. Honey Bucket, Blood Witch and the (A)SA trilogy were next. Fast and heavy; good stuff. By the way, I was somewhat dissappointed to see that Jared wasn't sporting a captain outfit or something like that.. nothing. :lol: Next up was what turned out to be 'My Generation'. I'm glad I didn't watch any videos beforehand so it was a nice little surprise. I wonder how many people actually figured out what song it was.. seriously, the only thing that gave it away were the vocals. Great Melvinesque version of the song which blended into History of Bad Men. I almost forgot about it and was reminded what a monstrous song it is. For a brief moment Buzz actually seemed somewhat moved when they went into the Star Spangled Banner. Ahh the harmonies. Last song, and a highlight: BORIS. The drumming was heavier than ever. So intense. And I sang along and enjoyed it. I really did. The second part was different, all of them sang. And as Boris faded out, everyone left the stage. It depressed me to see that two people somewhere next to me got Crovers sticks. Again, no sticks for me. That was the end of the show. THANK YOU MELVINS. Hamburg loves you. If anyone actually read all of this - imaginary karma for you!

Hey, thanks a bunch for all these nice photos!
I can only confirm this, the show really rocked!!! I travelled 400 kilometres from home to get to Hamburg and it was worth it. Though I'm still tired from the journey and had to spend a lot of money :(
Anyways, the photos are really great and very close. And they're also of good quality. Glad to find someone who attended the show and took photos!
Will you upload some videos/audio recordings sometime soon?
I've recorded the whole show and all sets with the sound recorder of my CANON digicam. The quality is not too good, I think. Maybe a 5 or 6 out of 10 points... a bit overdriven, cause it was pretty loud there, as both of us know :lol:
It would be cool to hear or see some more of this show. If you're interested in my stuff, let me know.
By the way, the venue scared me a bit, at the beginning. Especially because of the way it looked, the darkness and the flickering lights on the ceiling... with this guitar feedback that hat this chorus/modulation effect on it... I felt like a war would soon arrive, or something... it was kinda freaky hehe, but a cool and dark atmosphere
I recorded four videos and I'm uploading them right now, but it will take a while. I will post them here once they're finished. I'd love to hear your recording, no matter how the quality is! It's just great to have a recording of a show one attended. And by the way, the sound quality of my vids could be better too.
And the venue... I think it's great. I like the dark, creepy atmosphere.. intimidating.. And I didn't even realize there was such a big room for shows. A perfect place for the Melvins to play!

sounds like a cool show with a cool venue
but i must say i am disapointed that theyve decided to continue doing star spangled banner on the european tour. no offence to americans here n not. but i have no wanting of hearing patriotism on stage, its kinda embaressing. especially from my one of my favorite if not favorite acts.
does anyone know what inspired this?
again no offence, but i think its stupid. maybe i come come from a stand point where i've been travelling for the past few years and theres nothing more cringe worthy than witnessing aussie/american etc whatever on some momentary proud trip. its great to be proud of where your from, but dont be singing anthems or waiving flags in forein countries.
just my opinion, not trying to start a war.
edit - not that i would but sporting events are an exception to my rant

dijk,i can see what you're saying and obviously i respect your opinion but,do you really take that Star Spangled Banner as a serious thing?maybe i'm wrong,but seems to me they do that ironically....guess they don't really care to demonstrate their patriotism.

Sadly not! And exactly this is 1 song I really missed :D Other than that, the set was good.
Though I have hoped to hear some older tunes too. But the positive thing: this show made
me realize how much the new songs kick ass! Live they sound even better than on the album.

The setlist is correct. As for Porn, their set didn't really contain any structured songs, only lots of noise and drums, guitar and feedback; one long jam that is. I think it was great. And Big Business, I'm pretty sure they played Hands Up, Start Your Digging, unnamed new song (Cats, Mice), unnamed new song 2 (Gold and Final), Grounds For Divorce, Just As The Day Was Dawning and The Drift. I could be missing one, but I'm pretty sure that's it. God, how I wish their set would have been longer. sappystain, you really need to check them out (PM me if you're interested..)
And I finally got to upload Tipping The Lion. Eye Flys just finished as well, and I was able to reduce the delay at the end of the vid a bit.. But that's all I could do. Nevertheless it turned out really nice, for obvious reasons.. it's Eye Flys!
