Title: mu-mu's
Post by: Leroy on March 06, 2009, 07:30:20 AM
For almost 10 years, the Melvins have been wearing mu-mu's on stage.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, but why do they wear mu-mu's?

rumor has it there was a bet some teen years ago involving some other band, not sure who now, that if the melvins lost, they would have to wear dresses onstage.  if I know the story right I believe it was new years eve.   buzz chose a mumu and dale chose lingerie. and this is how the prior tradition of dale in a black neglige' got started.  I guess from that point on they decided to keep the gear.  or was it if they lost the bet they had to wear dresses onstage for one full year?   someone else might know the finer details.
but either way I do know there was a wager invloved and it was on new years eve.

I always like to think they wear the mumus because of that one Simpsons episode "King-Size Homer"

It started as a gimick, but Buzz has found that it is pretty easy to wash and maintain a Mumu on a hectic touring schedule.

It's actually my favourite Simpsons episode....

"I don't want to look like a weirdo.... I'll just go with a muumuu" then it cuts to him walking out of the shop with that white hat and fat green muumuu on....

who the hell are you and why must you be ill informed. he wore it at least up until 2004. since then ive seen him in biker shorts.

addendum: maybe i'll make a mumu for this tour. what era should it be from? i think i remember one with the frilly collar and flower print being the most obnoxious and gaymelvinsish, but the F and U were pretty funny. Also- no one can mess with the classic X. I mean say you happen to be drawing a picture of buzz or reflecting on a mumu moment- doesn't the X normally come to mind?

Also. This year. I want to do the Melvins interview.

You could rock the camo with a big "DY" on the front and "TM" on the back.  I'll buy you at least 3 rounds if you wear it.

Make sure you complete it with an afro wig. I haven't been able to find one with a gray highlight.

Nope.  I always think of the F and U.  By far the best version of the mumus.  Did anyone ever wonder why Kevin's were always much shorter than Buzzo's?  Kevin liked to show some leg I guess.

Definitely miss the days of Dale coming out in an Adidas track suit and stripping down to a Speedo.  That always got some funny looks from the people in the crowd that weren't expecting it.

and give up my anonymity? make an ass out of myself? the temptation is that of a gay strolling in central park around 1940 after dusk. consider it considered.

For the HAT tour I saw them wearing the black tunics with a + shaped cross.  It was very medieval looking (which is why I said tunic).  That was my first melvins show so that image of buzz standing 3 feet in front of towering over me with a Halo of stage lit fuzz slashing at that les paul with a grizzled stare--wel that image stuck.  Then on the PORE tour they wearing the F U version.  The first SA tour, I think, had the weird anatomy prints sewn on I'm a little fuzzy on that one though.  The second sported the camo.
