Title: Buzz featured speaker at SXSW
Post by: deatheats on February 12, 2014, 11:55:23 AM
"Buzz, or "King Buzzo", will be joining Jack Boulware and, of course, Stooges guitarist James Williamson for the session on Friday, March 14th at 12:30pm in Austin Convention Center Room 12AB. The talk will cover Williamson's exciting evolution from a young Detroit musician to lead guitarist of the legendary Iggy and the Stooges, finally winding up in a top executive position at Sony.

Buzz is one of the original members of The Melvins, experimental rock trio formed back in 1983. Their most recent album, Tres Cabrones, was released in November 2013, and was highly anticipated amongst fans. Following the release of Tres Cabrones, Buzz announced that he will be touring as a solo-acoustic act and releasing his first solo acoustic album this spring via Ipecac Recordings."

Dang son, acoustic album on Ipecac? I thought it was just gonna be a 10" but that's way better.

I'd guess there will be a 10" and a full album.

Well, there goes the boardie meet up trip to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre restaurant.

I hope we can get in without a day pass.

Williamson is a sweet guy but damn, that moderator did everything but moderate. Not being a fanboy here, but the brief exchanges between Buzz and James were far more interesting than redundant Stooges trivia and showing slides which included no Melvins whatsoever. There are so many points in both band's timelines that overlap and would be worth elaborating on. Squeezing in a shaky riff lesson at the end didn't help either. Sorry for being stinky but I hate shitty interviews. Especially when they're this long and sold as such a big do-up by SXSW.

Yes. Can't really say this thing is firing on all cylinders.  :?
Dumbass host kept shutting down Buzz.
No mention of Mike Watt, that's an interesting angle on this new Stooges line up.
The guitar demo is pretty half ass.
This was months ago, why can't the slides be on the video.
If I paid to see this in person, my ass would still be hurtin.  :x

True story, Mike Watt being on of those overlaps that I was getting at. Melvins opened for Minutemen way back when.
I think the host doesn't have much of an idea of that stuff and is too much of a Stooges and/or Iggy mark to conduct an interesting conversation.
