Insect Polka is awesome. It has that Melvins quirkiness about it. I would go so far to say that Buzz and Dale would love it too. You got my vote. Anaconda's design has a Pigs of the Roman Empire feel. I liked it too.
Title: Re: MELVINS T-SHIRT VOTE
Post by: mopafeena on April 02, 2006, 10:17:45 PM
Very hard choice!! But in the end i had to go with Klump and Lunica's Insect Polka Indeed with a very close second and extremely honourable mention going to Anaconda's Dog.

indeed is the pick, make it and i'll buy.

did someone say we shouldn't advertise the melvins.net on it?
i think that's one of the dumbest things i've heard.
i wanna buy it to show people i like the melvins and i go to this site.
i would like for it to be known.
let's not be subtle.

i won't buy it if it doesn't say melvins somewhere on it.
we'd just be making random shirts if it wasn't on it.

no, it was a question. personally i don't feel the need to be a walking advert,
or want be responsible for the people who visit here.
funnily enough though when i thought about the kind of people it could attract,
i immediately thought of yourself.   :P
the melvins don't make shirts that just have pictures on them dude
who cares who it attracts, it will attract no one.
and if it does, it's for their own good.
you guys need to embrace change, as the melvins do.
so i'd be attracted to anything on a t-shirt?
how about not, how about i want there to be reason behind the shirt.
readily available to those who read it.
it would be a waste of money not to put melvins somewhere on it.
it's so simple.
obviously you don't know my tastes or how to make a good t-shirt.
i like to advertise the melvins, as much as i can.
it would be awful if i didn't, and no one would know me, because melvins explain a lot of people here, we are all common in one way or the other.
without the 'melvins' on it, it would just be some inside joke
and i really have nothing wrong with you green, it's just i want to buy the shirt, and it should meet everybodies needs somehow.
i feel like quoting tool for some reason "i'd sold my soul to make a record"

please keep themelvins.net or something on it...
anyone gonna back me up on this?
come on dutch boy, i know you're there somewhere.
oh, you must be sleeping.

it IS the most melvins-esque for sure, and also it can be produced

I have a question.

Does any permission need to be gained from higher powers to be able to use the name 'melvins' on a shirt?

I know a little about copyright laws and it's maybe a little possible, but doubtful, that there might be problems.

Or would you think this 'project' was small enough to get away with it?

Might be something about if no profit is made it's ok. I don't know. I just thought it was something to think about.

No problems, as it's original artwork, and it's advertising a fan site.

On the flip side, look at the bootleg melvins shirt thats flooding ebay.  Very shady, yet I doubt the melvins feel it's worthwhile to shut those down.

i suggest that when the winner is chosen, everyone can send him wishes about possible changes, and he will do what he can to make everyone happy. without being a sellout (duh)  8).

theres no way the shirts will be printed in norway - just that would double the price. and when you add shipping, thats three times as much as you would want to pay for a shirt. so whoever wins, they need to be printed somewhere cheap :)

well, i'm off to italy!

i said i would take the orders, but i have no idea how to go about getting something printed.  i would take the orders and pass them to someone else to do the actual ordering....  i think there would have to be one person who receives all the shirts and sends them out to the different addresses, but that is a huge fucking bitch.  there is no way a printer will send shirts all around the world, though.  it seems like whoever collects the money would have to send them out as well so that they money they collect in price and shipping could pay for the shipping prices they will have to shell out.
damn this is complicated...
Title: Re: MELVINS T-SHIRT VOTE

To keep the shipping costs low, I think it's best if someone from the US takes all the orders. But to know for sure, we should have a list of all people who want to buy a shirt.

Isn't it possible to send an email to all members of the board and find out if they want to buy a shirt? It's not very realistic to expect every member to go through this thread again and find these latest messages. Maybe I should sent Brian a PM to find out if this is possible. I think so though, I have received similar emails from other BBS-based boards too.

gotta have someone with some $ upfront to finance everything before the money starts coming back.  this could be a trick.
I would be more than happy to do this  IF I wasn't horrendously poor right now.

yea i would think so too, Glenny.  if nobody comes forth, your idea of going local might be the only real idea so far!  you can at least get a price, and if nobody likes it we'll either wait till something better comes up, or make them anyway for the people willing to pay to make it a reality.
you realize you have kinda volunteered to do the shipping?  that's really cool, i just think you should know what you're getting yourself into (i'm sure you do.)
so, if this is the way it's going to be, it looks like it may be you and me buddy

yes.  yes I do realize.  this is something that CANNOT be slacked on or done half-assed.  I will give it 110% but the only problem I have is finances.  unfortunately I can finance NOTHING upfront. just happens to be a bad time for me.  but if the cash is there I will most definetely make sure my responsibilities (as given to me) are handled.  may be a slight delay in getting from the money point to the t-shirt on your back point but I will waste NO time.

I figure you fine folk have given me hours (9 days, 17 hours, 45 minutes and counting) of reading pleasure, connections to good music and other various favors.  I owe a little something back besides sarcastic one-liners and ridiculous stories.

Someone needs to check with Andy at dieselfuel.com, and see how much he'll charge for a 1 colour print shirt.  (I've been told his prices are reasonable.)   Once we get an estimate, it should be easier to collect the money.

p.s. We should have a limited edition colour shirt, production of five, available randomly to cool people.   They can be the starbelly sneetches of melvins.com (http://themelvins.net/forum/Smileys/default/eusa_whistle.gif)

did someone say hot pink? haha. how about we make a list of people who want to buy the shirt, with their desired size.
the person who fixes it should have a paypal account so we can pay as well.
i need to know what kind of file it should be.. illustrator file, pdf, esp..? CMYK/RGB?
when i know, i'll make some small changes (add another E in indeed, which will also make the indeed a tad smaller, and vectorize the bug (wohoo, looking forward to that...gah)) :) any other wishes?

got the paypal situation squared away.  waiting for a game plan on the actual printing.  probably best to check a couple different options out so as to avoid a rape job.

don't EVEN make them hot pink.  I'm not going for it.  don't care what is "in style".  hot pink doesn't suit me.   maybe 2 or 3 color options.  white, black & pink?  (or something).
print to be black or green?  one color print?
Title: Re: MELVINS T-SHIRT VOTE
Post by: Lunica on April 10, 2006, 02:49:17 PM
hot pink was meant to be a joke, but i would be funny to see a hardcore metalhead in a hot pink shirt :)
the only pink shirt i have is a "plan 9 from outer space" shirt.

i stopped buying white shirts.. they to not stay white too long.. i wore my bungle shirts just a couple of times, and now its in the drawer, cause i don't want to ruin it.

and black shirts.. i'm tired of looking like a domino piece. if they're black, they need color print, which is expensive. unless you can come up with a good price of course :)

but i think they should be color (the print could be black or white though.. to get the costs down. i think black is cheaper) so we should try to come up with a color everyone will settle with.. if thats not possible, we could make one black version, and one color version, or get a color chart from the printing guy..

how about green? blue? dark red? yellow? any other suggestions?

I'd like Black!! But if nobody agrees i'd be happy with any dark colour, like anaconda's blue black or similar.

Now, i have a question. I couldn't quite understand what was meant by the Paypal thing. Does the person who wants to buy a shirt have to have a paypal account? If so, i think this is maybe bad for some. Maybe some more options for payment. I'd be happy to send a money order to someone if that would work. Would it work? Cause i don't have paypal or a credit card or anything.

i'm sure there will be other payment options, but the person who gets in charge of printing the shirts will have to have a paypal address so he can receive money from all the foreigners :) i like the idea of two different versions as long as the expenses don't go sky high.

so blue for the ladies and pink for the lads it is! (duh)

paypal won't be required.  cash or money order will be fine and dandy I would think.  but paypal just expidites things with not having to wait for mail delivery of funds.
I agree with the 2 options things as well.  maybe 2 different colors.
green seems to be popular.  and then maybe black?

doesn't paypal take a fee for the transaction?  i'd make sure whoever is doing all this work doesn't take a loss after that is figured in.

also in my opinion this whole indeed business has been carried too far, it speaks to a radio performance from like 1999 and nothing else to my knowledge.  if it were me, in lieu of putting MELVINS on the top, it'd be cool to have some other melvins phraseology that is often overlooked and much more profound.  Maybe even if it were just a song title,as opposed to the band name, like wouldn't it be awesome if you were walking around with a shirt that had that beast with the little man riding on it and above it, it said something like:
Cranky Messiah
Let God be your Gardener
If I had an Exorcism
Hog Leg
Hung Bunny
Chief Ten Beers
Magic Pig Detective
Inflluence of Atmosphere
Eye Flys
Now A Limo

The notion of some of those titles at the top of a shirt is awesome to me, and when coupled with that image the pleasure would be ten-fold, whereas INDEED!!@ seems kind of pointless and could be mistaken for some sort of urbanoutfitters vintage/goofball t-shirt, which would be a shame when that man riding that beast is, as I said, an awesome image.
Title: Re: MELVINS T-SHIRT VOTE
Post by: glen on April 11, 2006, 07:51:29 AM
thats deep.

not to smooch up to the powers that be or anything but I agree.  the whole indeed thing was humorous but does it really represent MELVINS? maybe a different angle could be looked at. like the song title idea or themelvins.net across the top.  maybe this is another thing to be voted upon.
Title: Re: MELVINS T-SHIRT VOTE
Post by: Chomas on April 11, 2006, 07:53:35 AM
I think we should just do a rip off of the Lysol album picture with like "chief ten beers" underneath or something else - the melvins don't care if we rip off the image, so why would we? Plus its not their image. (its not like were banking off it)  Fuck the indeed concept, I have to side with Brian on this one, it doesnt work for me.  Especially if its a kevin reference, since hes no longer with the band its kind of weak.  No offense to the creators, I give you props for making the design, its better than I couldve done for sure...

the art is great, and I'll be really sorry and bummed out if klump and lunica are hurt by my suggestion, so I  hope that doesn't happen.
I just really think that the notion of that little guy on top of that beast of burden being the assumed 'chief ten beers' or 'cranky messiah' is incredibly comical, definitely shouldn't put the website url on top, and if anything it should be made smaller.  also I really hope the current graphic is used, any reusing of previous melvins artwork as was suggested recently is of no interest to me.

Is Klumpy Grumpy?

Too many chefs spoil the pot.

Okay the price breakdown.

For fifty shirts with one color ink,
the price is $4.06 per shirt on a white shirt,
$5.06 per shirt on a coloured shirt.

$28 start fee, 50 shirt minimum. (3.50 for white, 4.50 for colour)

Assuming the coloured shirt, that's $253.00 before shipping them out.
Add ~$3.00 for shipping in the U.S.; + $1.00 for mailers,  (more for overseas peoples),
That's $9.00 per shirt.

50x9 = $450.00  needed to get the shirts printed.

since none of you slackers are gonna step up to plate, allow me.

hows this for the list of options on the heading:

cranky messiah
hog leg
hung bunny
eye flys
indeeed
snivlem
klumpy grumpy (slipped that one in there, didn't I?)
no heading (just the pic of the flea rider with themelvins.netbbs in smaller print at the bottom - my personal favorite)

anybody want to add some before I put together a poll?

so who will come up with a heading everyone will like?
we could just put "BIG HEADING" or "CAN'T DECIDE" something on top.
or just nothing, like glen suggested, but the whole picture would look better with a heading.
i don't think any of those headings are really great though.. (and i don't think indeed was great either, it was the first thing that popped into my head)

Fascist Golden Arms
Bite the Wax Tadpole

if we go at the pace we're going at now, we're never gonna get the shirt made.

if we're having this hard of a time with the words going on it, we should do another vote.
we have good suggestions coming from here.
