Guys, I tried to enjoy this album but I failed.

None of it clicked. I'm not sure what has happened but it just felt so empty - and I strongly doubt that having the actual article in my hand and being able to enjoy the predictably brilliant artwork would've made any difference.

I still feel that Pigs is the best recorded thing they've done this side of 2000 (the absolute best being the UK Cameron Jamie tour - they have NEVER sounded as jaw-droppingly awesome as they did then) but I'm starting to think that they just aren't doing it for me anymore.

I wish they'd have done something radical, taken some real risks. The thing sounded old. That's not right.

Here are my thoughts:

- I'm not sure about the Metallica comparisons but Revolve, to me, is the Melvins at their complacent cringeworthy worst.

- Inside my Stoner Witch CD case lies a burnt, Revolve-less version of the album which in my eyes is vastly improved.

- The Revolve on Electroretard is how it should've been.

- Long may this topic rear it's ugly head.

- Yuck.

Because I skip it. But I'll tell you what, next time the Crybaby floats its way to my CD tray I wont skip it. Maybe it'll give me some pleasure.

It's just personal taste. Not judging anyone else.

It's the most underrated Melvins LP of them all.

Of course, everyone has the tracks they'll usually skip. For me, the Thirlwell and the  Patton tracks are the weakest.

But the strong stuff sits with the very best stuff from their legacy. Dry Drunk is one of those killer tracks that hardly gets the props it deserves.

It's certainly the highlight of the 'Trilogy' for me - The Maggot & the Bootlicker will almost certainly never get played in the near future whilst I get urges to listen to specific tracks from the Crybaby all the time.

I'm so fucking gutted I couldn't make it to this show (really, really skint).

I'm a big fan of Deerhoof as well so it doubly stings.

Happy that it was so good, though. I hope I can get a decent quality bootleg at some point.

Stag has it all - big budget sheen, corrosive noise, muted smoothness all the way to general 4-track nastiness. Honky's cut from similar cloth but breathes very differently. POTRE's sonic palette makes the Melvins interesting again.

MF DOOM. Something tells me Buzz would rather sit on a bees nest than even contemplate working with someone like DOOM. But it would be something totally different...

Melvins could do with a couple of pedalled-up double bassists, or a whole host of bass monsters.

This is an opportunity to experiment with a wildly different sound..

The Melvins couldn't have sold out more spectacularly if they tried their hardest.

They might as well have poured their heart and soul into a jingle for McDonalds or Gap.

And Nikes are fucking shite.

More collabs in general would be good.

I never bothered with the first Melvins/Jello LP and I doubt I'll bother with this but continuing to work with other guys (preferably from wildly different musical fields) will help keep things interesting. I thought Pigs of the Roman Empire was their best LP in years.

If we scream loud enough for an LP which sounds like Bullhead we'll almost certainly get something new, progressive, original and nothing like Bullhead.

The Maggot is overrated. It's an okay release in general terms but it's still the Melvins on autopilot.

The Bootlicker gets old pretty fast - great before the extreme dullness of most of it gets too much to bear.

The Crybaby, even though it'd got some crud on there (the Thirlwell track and Patton's GIJoe come instantly to mind here) is the most interesting to me...so I'm one of the two people who voted for it. Go Crybaby. Er, yeah.

It's a high honour for the Melvins to be associated with the mighty 'Bone, I must say. As a longer time fan of Fishbone I'm ashamed of my ignorance of this.
