Melvins Discussion / Re: MELVINS songs w/ profanity?
« on: October 05, 2022, 01:36:02 PM »
Well after 30+ years and 87 albums we've finally hit the main mark. A studio album where Buzz penned an original song with an f-bomb clearly sung as a lyric.

"My Discomfort Is Radiant"
I was going to say don't forget 'The Savage Hippy' on Nude With Boots. But i just had another listen and i think he sings "real something nasty". Weirdly i was sure it was "real fucking nasty" too.

You were correct. The song was originally released as "Real Fucking Nasty" on a split tour single with Halo Of Flies. Other Melvins gems included were:
–   Smash The State
–   Stalin's Solution
–   Communist Concubine
–   Useful Idiot

similar, yes. most people say this sounds like Night Goat. A History Of Bad Men to me is exactly the same riff as this one.

I definitely hear it in the song about the deceased gentleman holding the amused playing cards. Night Goat, though? No musician or discerning fan would ever hear that. Inside the music is an entire world that some people don’t seem to have access to.

Remind you of a particular song on (A) Senile Animal? I don’t know much about Ministry but tell me someone else noticed this.

Are you guys blind? Buzz is nowhere NEAR 5'11''. Look at the inside cover of Ozma to see him next to Dale and tiny Lori if you don't believe me.

I’ve always really liked the bass line in Judy, so my ears perked up when I heard Wood Goblins by Tad. Check it out and tell me Tad doesn’t owe me a finder’s fee when they sue.

I’m not sure if this is new to anyone.

Who’s that on Buzz’s shirt? He’s got hair like Anton Chigurh.

I want to make heavy metal that sounds like Dark Magus; that sounds like The Who Sell Out. Add a jungle rock, garage rock element to it. I wanna add John Spencer and Judas Priest. I want it all at once. Pure noise. The Beatles crossed with Throbbing Gristle.

This would be awesome! Please Buzz do it!

Right? I want all of this!!!

Dark Magus is such an amazing and brutal album.

When I got into electric Miles the albums were hard to find. After a lot of phoning around (this was back when the Internet was just a rumour about a geek with a modem) I found a copy of Dark Magus in a city that was a two-hour drive away. Damn right, I’m gone. On the way home, driving with my headphones plugged into a Sony Discman, I remember yelling, “Close your fucking hi hat!” I got over it. Killer album.

From some website:

“This May, Pink Mountaintops will release their new album Peacock Pools, which started out as McBean recording demos by himself at his house outside LA early in the pandemic. For this album, the band’s lineup includes fellow Black Mountain members, as well as musicians who have played in Destroyer, Death Valley Girls, and Ryley Walker’s band. Ty Segall collaborator Emily Rose Epstein joins in on vocals, and legends like Redd Kross’ Steven McDonald and Melvins’ Dale Crover make contributions.”

meanwhile, Melvins are working with Matt Cameron under their own name.  :buzz:

Johnny Cash & Willie Nelson - VH1 Storytellers (saw bits of it, never heard the whole album)

That version of Folsom Prison Blues is so good. Willie’s solo rules. What an amazing guitarist that guy is. He sort of reminds me of Monk with the way he punctuates the space around the melody.

Senile Aminal
Senile Laminal

“ laminate is material formed of thin sheets glued together while lamina is a very thin layer of material”

Ties in with the lino cut process?

Buzz, when he heard I was going to interview you my brother asked me if..
Brother? We don't have any brother bands! WHO??

Um, ok. Well, this acoustic album marks the first..
Marx?? I'm more of a 'Groucho' Marxist. I didn't even know we would do an acoustic album until I was told I couldn't.

Ha ha...right, ok. This is getting weird.
We're not being weird just for the sake of being weird. Weird is any sport with a clock!

Listen, I'm just trying to do an interview. It's how I make a living.
You know how many interviews we would do that didn't make money? Less than two, I can tell you that.

I'm getting kind of tired of this.
Tired?? I wake up at four!!

Sigh...fuck me.
Fuck you? No way! I met a woman who's willing to put up with me and I don't take that for granted. Hey, have you seen my dog? We have dogs.

Yes, I know.
