Melvins Discussion / Re: New Interview with Buzzo
August 06, 2020, 10:18:52 PM
Hi, long time listener, few times caller here.

Buzz has said many times "I don't know why people look to rock stars for political opinions." He's always been an advocate for self reliant thinking. He's joked about the absurdity of the punk rock culture's "norms" and has said "it amazes me that punk rock kids have so many rules about being punk rock." He's also very sarcastic and a bit of an absurdist.

I actually got to see the vid before it got taken down and had never heard of the guy that was interviewing him. The guy basically led the conversation, Buzz was just riffing his riff of punk rock and rules dont go together and the guy tied it to PC Cancel culture. I really don't think Buzz knew who this jerk was, I didn't. Then again I try to avoid bullshit. Thank you for reading my less than two cents, resume your normal programming. - End of line

Yeah. so I got the thing a day after I saw them here in PHX and I think they sold the last one on the table just before I walked in (according to my posse). pretty nice. Get some sweet overdrive tones and play creamy Eric Crapton leads. Get some swampy distortion tones and play some old school Suicidal Tendencies. the eq really works. the mix knob works wonders. the unit is built like a tank, but takes no battery. You need a Boss/ Ibanez style power adapter for it. I did some demos with guitar and bass on the despised fb and folks seemed to like them. I did an A/B demo with the dreaded Boss Metal Zone 2 and I gotta admit I liked that pedal better, but i'm still learning this one and my gear (and playing) kinda sucks.

It actually does take a battery. I got mine and noticed a lack of a battery connection. I contacted Nathan and showed him pics of the internals...and he had forgotten to attach a 9 volt connector before shipping it to me. He then mailed me a connector which was easy to install...it just literally clipped onto the circuit board.

I bought the Hilbish SUNN preamp copy that Buzz uses, and it's great. I'll be getting one of these pedals, too. Pricey, but I'm a Buzzo fan. Will try to post a demo in May when the pedal ships.

oh and...last summer I picked up a Hillbish design clone of the classic SUNN PB-10 preamp that Buzz uses....and now Buzz bought one from Hillbish too. I racked it with a Crown poweramp like Buzz - all I need now is some cabs like he has...haha.

The guitar is from 1991, it and Buzz's are both a part of a limited Custom Shop run of 250 guitars. This one has some nicks and dings on it that are on the back, but overall it's in great condition for a 26 year old guitar.

I would wager it's in better condition than Buzz's guitar, as I've seen one interview where he complains that the airlines have broken the neck on a few of his LPCs while touring. (And had it repaired multiple times)

I got it online at a popular auction website, I wont say how much I paid for it, but Gibson Les Paul Customs are $$$ in the guitar world.

Melvins Discussion / Buzz's Les Paul Custom

Thought I'd share. Even though I'm primarily a bass player, I've always had a hankering for a real Gibson Les Paul Custom. Black Beauty to be specific. And if I truly could design my own, it would have the Super 400 (Supreme Inlays). As a happy coincidence - Buzzo bought one in 1991 (as it was a limited custom shop run back then) and there were 249 other ones made I think. He used it heavily before switching to the aluminum guitars he plays currently. So, after years of searching, I finally have found and bought one just like Buzz's!!! I'm Blessened.

Technical problems abounded in this show. A sound tech had to come out mid song to readjust mics on Dale's kit. Buzzo went into a holding pattern on guitar and didn't look too pleased. They played a good mix of old and new as usual. Got a few compliments on my Melvins Army shirt of old.
