Melvins Discussion / Re: Melvins & Helms Alee
« on: August 28, 2023, 02:38:17 AM »
So, this EP is pretty rad. My favorite collab so far. Can we just talk about the song Galloping Mind Fuk? Steven’s bass is all over that shit and this time, I think it really compliments the song. Great energy and melody…

I think the female voice from Helms sounds fresh in the mix, a good juxtaposition against the layers of distortion, plus I prefer her voice to Teri’s.

Better Feelings has brief moments that remind me of Specimen… and of course At the Stake, a tight cover of a great song, losing none of the essence of the original.

Crossing fingers for a factory edition to be released. I missed out on the LP

Agree with all of this!

Great release

Bandcamp has a really hard time with cover songs. I think one of the things with amrep is they just sort of seem to skirt the rules around this stuff by only doing limited physical media. They probably pay those minimum publishing royalties based on incredibly small numbers. I'm only guessing, but we wouldn't have the Sabbath record or the Husker cover or the whole Void Manez collab up there. I'd rather buy the Cheapy CD than be second guessing about whether it's missing some unlisted track or whatever.
For some reason, I thought you didn’t have to pay any publishing royalties until you’ve sold a certain amount of copies. So that was my thought behind why they do these limited releases.

Interesting - that would explain a LOT

Oh dang! Never knew about that version. Anyone heard it? Is it drastically different?

I’ve got a high quality rip of this I can share tomorrow in FLAC or mp3.

Have at it...

Tom pointed out that the full tracklist (not shown here) has a track dedicated to the amp fan for the SVT bass amp. maybe for noise cancelling purposes?

Instant drone classic!

Just got the Bullhead one as I've bought GPT and Senile Animal a little too recently,

Also, these new "covers" are just kind of slip cases/wraps it seems with the normal cover underneath

Yeah this was an enjoyable first listen.

The things that stood out the most to me were the sharing around of vocals and harmonies which worked really well and the sludgy parts having more hooks in them so they don't get so bogged down.

A collection of dead rat photos? Rats that his trusty dog trapped?

Cancelled rats?

I also noticed that no songs from the Lord of the Flies are present. That must be a stand-alone EP possibly
