it's not that difficult to understand that my opinion was based not on the two videos i shared but on the live sound Buzz got over the years, which changed a lot, in a bad or better way it depends on personal tastes obviously . with this said ,i didn't mean to disappoint  the many fanboys over here  :)

Except that you were literally comparing Wata's live Gibson tone to King Buzzo's live EGC tone, linking two videos of the same song from the same tour to show what you were talking about. If you were simply trying to state what you are here that's fine, but it was a pretty odd way to do it.

We all have our opinions but the biggest difference I have noticed in the Melvins live sound from show to show over the years seems to come more from what venue they're playing at more so than what equipment they are using (with the one significant exception being Trevor Dunn using a standup bass on the Melvins Lite tour).

Sorry to blow this thread up! Forgot about this site and this is the first time I've pulled it up in years.

The holy trinity of Melvins bassists is Kevin, Mark and Trevor in that order. Steven is a LONG way down the list.

I'd put Jared Warren right near the top of the list; especially if we're factoring in vocals.

They should hide all lyrics from Steven. Keep that dude off the mic at all cost haha. To me, He butchered a history of bad men at the NC show.

I agree. He's a talented bassist (as well as an energetic showman) and his singing might otherwise be fine but it really doesn't fit in the Melvins. Not really a fan of any of the songs he's written/performed for the Melvins to be honest.

Sorry aA, but hard disagree.  After this next week I can say I've seen them over 30 times since 1994.  Dale's vocals have always been almost as impactful as his drumming.

While I fully appreciate Crover's vocals, there is no way in hell that they are anywhere near as impactful as his legendary drumming skills. I've also seen the Melvins live 30ish times (since 1998 in my case).

you can totally feel it's not Dale playing
Yes. Which made the gig feel slightly off. Not something the casual listener would notice.

I can see what you mean but be sure after a few gigs in the tour he will be totally ok! obviously his style is different than Dale's so it will never be exactly the same, still i see no other drummer could do a better performance of this stuff, which is not so easy to play

I get that it's not Crover but Willis was absolutely outstanding the very first show of this tour. Zero criticisms from both myself and any of the other people I attended the show with.

Here's a clip of it! Coady's floppy fringe is a bit weird to get used to seeing. Also i wonder what he makes of Steven's Jared impression on A History Of Bad Men.

That's about the only thing I could gripe about with the show I went to. Would way rather hear Buzz handle the vocals on this one.

If you're a fan of the Cheapy CDs, you are in luck!

Kind of sucks not to have those Dale backing vocals, but no real complaints about Coady's drumming. Real beastly presence. Incredibly fast version of "Honey Bucket."
did Coady do any vocals?

I do not think so
yeah he did. he had the same headset as Dale. it was on the later tours.

He definitely didn't do any vocals at the show I went to of this current tour.

That doesn't sound good at all emergency spinal surgery just days before a tour due to start. Glad to hear Coady is filling in if it couldn't be Dillard than Coady is the next best 'Melvins family' option.

All the best to Dale.

No disrespect to Dillard but Willis absolutely smokes him on drums.

from Melvins official.  :(

Man, reading this post on Instagram half asleep the morning of the show had me freaking out for a moment. I saw "dedicated to Dale Crover" and thought he had died. Was relieved the show was still going on with Coady Willis since I had already driven 4+ hours to see it but still very concerned for one of my absolute favorite drummers of all time.

Got to say that Willis did an absolutely outstanding job as Crover's replacement. Killer show and from my angle, Willis didn't miss a beat. In terms of a last minute replacement, I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job.

you guys don't think a mountain of Orange amps skew the results of comparing two phone videos? i'll also add one rig rundown, J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr emphasized the importance of running your amps on as clean a tone as possible so as to not clash with the tone from your favorite distortion, overdrive or fuzz pedals. conversely, the guitarist from Cloutch said he only gets his tone from his Orange amps, absolutely no pedals involved. my point being, tone comes from every part of the signal chain.

Tone also comes from the guitarist. Two different guitar players using the exact same equipment might sound quite different.

he's on record saying that he doesn't get guitars for free from ECG. also told at least one rig rundown video they aren't lighter than an LP.

you guys seem to miss the idea that the bands sound changed and guitar tone can come from other places than just the guitar.

Bingo!

Stallions right. The Les Paul is a better instrument. Just facts. Buzz is probably at the point where hearing loss makes it six of one half a dozen yada yada. Plus the egc necks are easier and the instrument is lighter. I don't blame him.  But those guitars are lame AF. Look stupid too.

That said, Buzzo still wails and makes magic with whatever guitar he plays. It's all essentially negligible. He can play whatever he likes.

They're both high-end instruments that cost thousands of dollars. One is mass produced, while the other is the exact opposite of mass produced. We all have preferences but pretending like this is an open and shut case because a couple guys on a BBS say so is a bit absurd.

As a guitarist and huge Melvins fan who has seen them dozens of times over the last three decades, I'd say that they're both excellent instruments (and don't really care which one King Buzzo chooses to use live or in the studio).

You're comparing YouTube videos from two different people at two different shows. Good job.

so you think the sound is different because of the videos?good job  :)

The fact that you think the audio from two separate video sources (likely mobile phones, making this even more moot) taken at two different venues is an even measuring stick shows me that you either don't know what you are talking about or are simply being stubborn to prove your "point".

His Presidential campaign was BIRTHED in racism. But you go on with your free-thinking self.

Yep how little we forget Donald Trump was the guy that started the 'Birther' movement against the President Barack Obama to try and discredit him before running himself. How anyone could deny Trump is a racist POS with a straight face is beyond me and that's even before getting to his 'build a wall' shit either.

False. It was people in Hillary's orbit that got the ball rolling back in the 2008 Dem primaries.

Edit: Wtf, this thread is now about Trump. Shocking.

....says the guy coming in here to cry about wokeness, cancel culture, and white privilege. Then to top it off, you can't help yourself from rushing to the defense of Donald Trump.
