there's something really weird in this recording. the snare drum seems really too high in the mix  :?

I agree. I wish the drums were more subtle like on Nirvana’s “Unplugged,” but oh well. Still loving it.

I’m just part way through the album, but my favorite so far is “Outside Chance”!

As soon as I heard the acoustic Night Goat, I thought, “This album will be my new go-to record for smoking a blunt to.”

Whoa! What a great surprise!

What made me even happier was seeing that the 2 CD set is only $16. That’s for 36 songs!

Hail Melvins!

I loved the “hidden” track (Hot Fish) at the end!

Two of the tracks that were not released in advance, Negative No No and Boy Mike are my favorites so far. Very crunchy and heavy.
I thought the same too - it was a nice surprise. 'Negative No No' especially is just classic Melvins right there!

👍

I just got my CD in the mail. I immediately listened to it from beginning to end. Here are some stray observations:

Tracks 5 (‘1 Brian’) and 9 (‘Fuck You’) are completely unnecessary. However, they do add a certain Melvins charm, so I’ll let them slide.

Two of the tracks that were not released in advance, ‘Negative No No’ and ‘Boy Mike’ are my favorites so far. Very crunchy and heavy.

Is it just me, or does ‘Caddy Daddy’ sound like it was recorded during the AWWLD sessions? It feels slightly out of place here.

I compared this version of ‘Hot Fish’ with the one on the Melvins/Flipper split, and I couldn’t detect any difference. Maybe someone else will spot something.

All in all, this is a very solid album. I am quite pleased with the originals and even some of the covers (‘1 Fuck You’). 8/10

How about Sgt. Peppers on a slice of ham?  :?

And while you wait, a free basket of Here Comes The Buns.

I really enjoyed the opening act, Dale Crover Band. The water concept was cool.

My favorite song that Melvins did was Roman Dog Bird. Very unexpected!

Another $5 well spent.

Damn, I can’t wait! This show will be the highlight of V Day for me. Forget the wife.

I agree with most of you. I would like the Melvins to do more original songs instead of padding their albums with covers.

However, I enjoy the covers a lot, especially the “obscure” ones because, well, a lot of them I didn’t realize were covers.

I’m really digging this ‘1 Fuck You” track though. I wouldn’t have known it was a cover had it not been mentioned in the media.

Nevertheless, a solid, all-originals album would be awesome.

One question: What is the song playing while Steven and Buzz are in the gas station buying beer? I would love to know.

Black Santa from The Bootlicker.

LOL, i just watched that Metallica clip, you're right!

Thank you, sir. You just made my day. Gonna listen to Bootlicker today.

So, someone else has Cliff ‘Em All?? I thought *I* was old.. [wink]

Edgar the Elephant
I never realised that Buzz sang "vaccination" in the words to this song. I always thought it was "fascination". Probably an apt choice to open the show up with i suppose.

I wonder if he changed it on purpose to fit the pandemic theme of the event.

Glad you guys are digging the video. Melvins would appreciate if you DON'T upload to youtube/filesharing.

I respect that.

I wonder what will happen to these videos after the 7 days of availability is up. It feels like a shame to me for them to be lost to the internet ether. Im hoping someone uploads them elsewhere or the band make them viewable in some other form for archival purposes at some point. I wonder if it could be something cool to put out a Melvins TV DVD collection of all the various performances and clips that will eventually make up this series. Equally i wonder just how many volumes they will create or have in the pipeline ready for future broadcast.

I hope to hell they keep them for some future purpose. I can’t imagine the guys just letting the New Years Evil show just disappear into a cloud of smoke on January 8.
