Here's a clip of it! Coady's floppy fringe is a bit weird to get used to seeing. Also i wonder what he makes of Steven's Jared impression on A History Of Bad Men.

That's about the only thing I could gripe about with the show I went to. Would way rather hear Buzz handle the vocals on this one.

Just came back here real quick to say Pinkus would have worked for History of Bad Men. His deeper vocal inflections would have been a good fit for that.

Melvins Show Reviews / Vogue, Indy 9-11-23

Not gonna get into a hugely elaborate review but heres my notes for the show...

- We got there early enough to get to the very fron so just a few feet away from Buzz and later Wata.

- Mr.Phylzzz was an awesome opener and packed in a lot of energy and raw charisma in 27 minutes. Would love to see them again!

- Not long after they finished The Vogue was PACKED. If it wasnt sold out it was close which is not too shabby for a Monday night!

- Merch? Never had a chance to get a good look at any of it much less get anything but the lines for merch stayed strong. Couple folks being salty about Melvins being cash only.

- Coady must be immune to jet lag as he didnt miss a beat and was an absolute force on the drums! That said...

- Melvins were mostly solid. Some songs I hadnt seen live in awhile (Night Goat, Revolve, Ligature) and some Ive never seen (Zodiac, Boris, History of Bad Men) though I'm not sure how I feel on Steven doing leads on that. Dug the funky outro, though! Buzz closing out the last part of Boris on his own works.

- Boris were absolutely superb. Watching Wata's hands move seamlessly and punch through mammoth riffs and soaring solos. Atsuo and Takeshi were absolutely on point too. Dronevil was omitted but we got all of Heavy Rocks and their take on Boris was incredible.

- Any time Atsuo said "Indianapolis" it sounded like "INDIANA POLICE".

Ridiculously smooth drive home and after dropping the friends off I was home myself by 3.

It wouldn't take much for that to fall apart real quick. Just a major flight delay or cancellation would be all that it would take.

I have to applaud Coady for trying to make all this work, though. Dude is built different for sure.

I'll be in Indy on Monday.

so there have been posts on the fb group about the St Louis date getting cancelled. only an email from the venue, who are offering refunds. Justin, who runs Secret Serpents says it's probably because Big Business are already scheduled to play a show in Portland. no announcement from the band so far i hear.

Went on Red Flag's page and they only list Boris. No Melvins or Mr. Phylzzz.

Aaaaand this has me worried about the Indy gig two days later all of a sudden. I really hope they aren't banking on some back and forth flight stuff with these shows.

As far as the collab EPs go the best ones of the lot are easily The Mudhoney and Helms Alee ones.

The two-song thing with Cisneros is alright. The ones with Flipper and Shitkid are trash.

One of the posts mentioned upper back surgery so that's all the more unnerving.

All the good vibes to Dale.

At this point I'm wishing Dale a full recovery and good health through all of this.

I'm catching the gig in Indy on the 11th. Full review and all that soon.

Seen a couple recent sets where Melvins dropped A History of Bad Men and Boris is adding Rattlesnake

Really begs the question who they would have got had Coady not been available? Only drummer I could think of off the top of my head would be Jason Roeder.

Spinal surgery is a scary thing, especially when the word "emergency" is involved. My sis had that in 2017 and was told before the surgery she was one wrong move away from paralysis. She still has some numbness in one of her legs.

I also think back to when Des Kensel got emergency surgery in his neck to which they put a cadaver bone in his neck. He stated "one slight mistake in a surgery like that and you're dead."

Wishing Dale a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery in all this.

I guess we'll see if both bands actually do their full albums as Boris seems to have omitted Rattlesnake in favor of Dronevil.

I feel that's a low-key trend with a lot of bands. Announce youre doing a full album...And not do the full album. Seen it with quite a few acts. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Weedeater, Max Cavalera, the list can go on.

Isn’t Dronevil on Heavy Rocks?

It originally appeared on the Mangrove 2002 compilation and was listed as an outtake. The Third Man reissue has a slightly revised tracklist, with Rattlesnake coming after 1970 instead of the middle of the album.

Bit of a gut punch to read this morning but with two other bands flying in I get it. Coady filling in is perfect for a situation like this.

Get well soon, Dale!

Wild reactions to what? You only had to look at the poster to know Boris are the headliners.

I seen a few posts bitching about it but I guess those got deleted.

Either way I'm stoked. Honestly, this whole night is gonna be something special.
