Melvins Discussion / I'm writing a book....
February 20, 2022, 08:51:30 PM
I don't know how long it will take to finish, how many people I can track down, who will actually want to talk to me, but I am writing a goddamn Melvins book. I figure if I put it out there now, I can't back out later. I *think* the "centering" of the book will be a detailed discography tracing the history of the band through their records, but we will see if that changes.

Sitting here with my jaw dropped to the floor, and in disbelief that my 15 year old self was in the room. Dale is on fire the whole night. Best Night Goat ever. And Specimen is so heavy it made me nauseous.
What amazes me the most is seeing the actual full 2 hour, 3 set evening and how different the vibe is compared to now. Present Melvins is a tight machine. This was a looser band. And those first two sets are really unique in Melvins history. Since these shows they have continued taking big risks, but I don't think they have ever been more bravely vulnerable than they were here.

I'm curious what others think.

Melvins Show Reviews / Portland 8/20
August 21, 2013, 02:55:38 AM
"It was too savage, too aggressive." - Hunter S. Thompson

Happy 30th Melvins

This was my 15th show since 1996, and it may be my favorite show of them all. It was my first time at the Wonder, I was stuck in law school hell the previous times they played here. It's hot as hell, but the overall vibe is so much nicer than the Roseland. It's a bit smaller, a bit more intimate, and much more relaxed. Going into the Roseland lately has felt like entering prison...or court. Plus its fucking LOUD. This was bar none the loudest Melvins show I've ever been subjected to. The setlist was just fucking heavy all the way through. I've been waiting to see Your Blessened for years, that was the highlight for me (plus Roman Dog Bird, my favorite). As heavy as it was, the vibe from the band was loose. Buzz was smiling throughout. Everyone just seemed to be filled with pride and having fun, knowing that they could stomp any rock band into dust. If ever a show should have been pro-shot for a release, this was it.

I haven't looked at this years, remembered it, found it, and it cheered me up after a crappy day.

Gosh, the Melvins twice in one calender year. I'll be thinking of you all. My review will go here. Think my kid is too young (seven)? He wants to go and I'm considering it.

Melvins Discussion / Local Cut interview
August 19, 2006, 05:27:36 PM
When I sat down to write a short profile of the Melvins, I realized that it was going to be a feat to make a dent in describing the sound and influence of such a seminal band in 200 words. At the last minute I wrote the band

Melvins Discussion / My wish for a boxset
November 26, 2004, 05:29:33 PM
Maybe not a box set but a 2 disc rareties collection containing all officially released tunes that have not made it onto an album. We can dream right? I'd call it "Now it's here as opposed to there." All the alternate live versions released would be included as well, but I failed to list them to avoid being redundant.

Scared (Deep Six Comp.)
Blessing the Operation (Deep Six Comp.)
She Waits (Deep Six Comp.)
Pronoun/Piece Me (Your Blessened 8" Flexi)
Sweet Young Thing Ain

Melvins Discussion / MILWAUKEE SHOW CANCELLED
September 04, 2004, 10:11:00 PM
This is on the Ipecac site. Haven't seen it on here yet. If this is a repost I apologize.

09/03/2004  We wanted to let our friends in Milwaukee know that we are disappointed to announce that the Melvins/Trevor Dunn show at the Rave Bar has been cancelled. The Melvins found out that the opening bands were not being treated fairly and voiced their displeasure. The club decided not to change their policy. Somebody has to speak up for local openers. This is very unfortunate in that it is not the first time one of our bands has had a problem in Milwaukee. Hopefully fans in the area can make the trek to Chicago.

Hello.

Well, my gripe about the sixty minute set is groundless for this show. I did not time it or any such nonsence. The quick set concept actually worked in favor this time around, although I will still hold that the HAT tour was kind of lame lengthwise. I left exhausted and elated at this celebration, and the set sure seemed longer than an hour. It was an honor and a privilege to be here, and this is the tightest I have ever seen them play.

Here is the set: (this is in chronological order of release because I was not taking notes)

Snake Appeal
It's Shoved
With Teeth
Hooch
Night Goat
Queen
Tipping the Lion
Lovely Butterfly
Manky
Let it All Be
Youth of America
Black Stooges
The Fool, The Meddling Idiot
Promise Me
Halo of Flies

The Book: Fuckin buy it!!!!

The CD I will give five Beto's:

Here is the Low down:
I have yet to listen to Prick or COD, but:

Night Goat=AmRep single
If You Get Board=K records Let's Together cassette comp 1984
At A Crawl=K records Let's Kiss cassette comp 1984
Forgotten Principles=Mangled Demos 1984 (probably the same as Singles 1-12)

Long Live the King!

In the new Helmet greatest hits, Buzz talks about how the Nu-Metal scene ripped everything off from Helmet. "Imitation is the highest form of television."

Melvins Discussion / Melvins on Tour ?!? w/MUDHONEY???
December 18, 2003, 10:54:59 PM
...And so a few minutes ago I was farting around on Ticketmaster checking out Neil Young tix and on a whim I punched in Melvins. One show was listed for 3/6/04. IN MY CITY!!! Thrasher presents is the local promoter so I scurried to their site. And lo and behold it was listed! And is said that theyare playing with mothereffing MUDHONEY!

Beto, don't miss this one man!

Anyhoo, go to ticketmaster.com and/or thrasherpresents.com for proof. Hope this isn't old news, I have not been checking the board much these past few weeks.

Love,
