Melvins Discussion / Drummers attention:
March 08, 2024, 11:12:55 AM
Do I play drums? No. Do I want a drum key? Yes!
https://www.blixtmerchandise.com/products/dale-crover-signature-drum-key

Dale is also offering to do session work on drums, if your band needs that sort of thing. I'm guessing contact him through either Facebook or instagram?

Melvins Discussion / Buzz and anxiety
April 21, 2023, 03:26:32 PM
QuoteHost Jason Schreurs talks to Buzz Osborne of legendary sludge metal band Melvins. Buzz opens up about the nightmare of all trips where he and his bandmates experienced two major earthquakes and a terrifying flight home that caused him severe flight anxiety. Buzz also discusses a technique he uses for his anxiety called psychological acupressure.

Melvins Discussion / Bootleg Melvins posters
March 16, 2023, 10:39:40 AM
How do you feel about bootleg Melvins posters? You may see certain sellers saying they "got them at an estate sale" (which of course is a lie), but in the following examples, the seller has just made up (or lifted) images for past shows, and prints/sells them for a low price. If the sellers were honest about the source of these posters, would you be ethically ok with this business?

Buzz Osborne (Melvins): "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)," 1965

'My favorite Bob Dylan song without question. It's just him with an acoustic and it's very fast-paced. I also think that these are the best lyrics he's ever written. "Darkness at the break of noon" and "If my thought dreams could be seen they'd probably put my head in a guillotine" are two of my favorites. It's a tough song but Dylan was always tough. Tough and very cool. Easily the coolest rockstar from the '60s and way beyond. I get nervous when I fly and I've used this song dozens of times during takeoff and landing to help me get through. It gives me strength of conviction. Such a powerful piece of music. I never trust people who don't like Dylan. Clearly they've never taken the time to really explore what he's about. They've missed out on his vast repertoire of unbelievable greatness and this song for me is right at the top.'

Melvins Discussion / 2018 tour pre show music
May 08, 2018, 04:42:34 PM
http://read.tidal.com/article/the-melvins-pre-show-music

Following the release of their new album,  Pinkus Abortion Technician, the Melvins are currently on a 10-week tour across America. To celebrate going on the road, Dale Crover put together a playlist of the music that the band plays in a venue before they go on stage.

* * *

Black Mountain, "Florian Saucer Attack"
Cool song from their last album. This one has a slight 'new wave' vibe to it. Like the Cars or Blondie playing space rock.

Cheap Trick, "California Man"
Nice cover of a song originally done by the Move. Neither band is from California

Los Lobos, "Viking"
Los Lobos is a great band with lots of good records out. This one is from the album This Time. The drum and guitar sounds on this song are crushing!

Lemon Twigs, "Foolin' Around"
The newest single from the Brothers Twig. This catchy little earworm has been slithering in our heads for days. Sounds like Queen meets the Raspberries

Muddy Waters, "Mannish Boy"
Rumor has it Muddy couldn't get a record deal in the '70s. Johnny Winter gives him a deal and together make one of Muddy's best records ever! If this song doesn't get you in the mood...

Sleaford Mods, "Messy Anywhere"
The Mods get slightly more melodic on this tune about bad party choices.

Randy Newman, "Gone Dead Train"
This is from the Performance movie soundtrack. The film starring Mick Jagger and Anita Pallenberg. Probably Randy's most rocking tune. Note, that's Ry Cooder on slide guitar.

Ty Segall, "The Main Pretender"
A dirty bass line and some sleazy saxophone. Sometimes that's all you need.

Rolling Stones, "Plundered My Soul"
This is from the deluxe version of Exile on Main Street. Great song! Can't believe they sat on it for so long.

Scorpions, "The Sails of Charon"
Uli Jon Roth-era Scorpions. This is some Proto Metal right here. Great riffs and leads!

QuoteI'll be at the Rock Island IL, Des Moines IA and Omaha NE Melvins shows. I was thinking of hauling a milk crate of assorted weirdness. PM if you have any requests for releases from the past couple years and I'll see if I can dig one up and bring it there!
