Melvins Discussion / new popularity?
« on: August 20, 2008, 06:22:23 PM »
named in a very popular movie, buzz on fox news, etc. etc.
are the melvins getting...BIG TIME?

i went to the chapel hill show and there were countless kids there, and i only know a select few who are seen there in their teens, but some kind of  new thing has happened.  i don't know whether to like it or not.  of course more love for the melvins means more melvins, but you come across more dickheads than what the usual melvins fan is.
brian walsby's band opened so maybe that has something to do with it, since they are one of those circle pit bands (not my type at all) and that attracts younga peoples.

does anyone else find this extremely weird?
of course i'm happy for them if this is the case

what melvins songs did you not like at first but now have a love for?

-i thought this would be interesting since melvins do that, after 100 plays it becomes sooooo good.

i'd have to say ligature and black bock have really gotten to me
i used to dislike both, but now i really feel them.
ligature feels like what the song should be- slow and straining

and black bock is just wonderful, it's so unique and unmelvinsy, yet very strong

Melvins Discussion / Upcoming Kurt Cobain movie
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:55:24 PM »
http://mog.com/Mackenzie_P/blog_post/137351

supposedly they're making kurt cobain's biography heavier than heaven into a movie.
there are rumors that a little buzz osbourne will be portrayed in the film, maybe melvins.
yet who knows how big of a part they will play in it if at all and if they will be portrayed correctly
still, verrrrry interesting and stimulating
yet, they're getting courtney love as executive producer
heh, i guess she thinks she's as hot as scarlett johansson because she's been personally cast by her as her, with ryan gosling to play kurt.

"While Cobain's and Love's roles might be taken there are still some other cast spots to be filled: Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, and Melvin's founding member Buzz Osbourne (Jack Black?) are all mentioned in Cross' biography on Cobain."

all just rumors so far, but i have to think that "buzz" or "dale" could peek their heads in on some scenes
if so, it will be surreal.

this has probably been mentioned before, just doing my part if it has not been.

Melvins Discussion / Alice Cooper on Melvins?
« on: January 02, 2007, 02:20:39 PM »
Does anyone know how Alice feels about Melvins?
They've covered a few songs by Alice, and had his blessing to record, so Alice must have heard them.
is there anything he has said about them anywhere?
anything at all?

or was it more of a money approach? (i don't know why he'd think melvins would earn him $, so that's why i'm asking this)
i'm thinking if that's the case, he let them do it since it was 92, and grunge just came in, and Kurt already established publically melvins as one of his faves, making it a motive for alice to let them do it.

Melvins Discussion / Buzz's voice
« on: January 02, 2007, 02:09:25 PM »
doesn't Buzz's voice sound like a teenager's?

i mean, there's nothing manly about his normal speaking voice
you couldn't pin both his normal voice with the one he sings, they're both opposite to eachother
his singing voice is pretty deep and grisly, and when he does hit it higher (only slim occassions)
like black bock,  it will sound like him.
i mean, i'm just saying someone who doesn't know how buzz would sound talking wouldn't connect 2.

have you guys ever thought that before?
maybe that's why he's so cool with the kids!

I think Dale's singing voice and actual voice are pretty close to eachother though, as is Jareds.

Melvins Discussion / Favorite Christmastime/Holiday Season Melvins Album?
« on: December 17, 2006, 04:53:30 PM »
The obvious ones are Bootlicker and Eggnog
Do you guys break out any melvins album or tune everytime this time of the year?

I tend to listen to the 2 above, as well as lysol (a little easterish), and DEFINATELY their solo albums.
Dale Crover is kinda holidayish.

Melvins Discussion / Picture?
« on: August 28, 2006, 08:17:51 PM »
Does anyone have a picture of Dale and Coady playing drums, where you can see both of them right in front of you, playing parallel to the horizon and you (if you get what i mean)

Just because i'm wondering how this will be, it would be awesome awesome awesome if they share a few things on their set, a cymbal, floor toms or percussion instrument of some sort.  a lot of ideas can be made.

Melvins Discussion / is this true?
« on: August 27, 2006, 11:10:36 AM »
i heard.........
altamont and men of porn will be touring with melbigs...
i got info from the guy who runs the milestone in charlotte, i don't know if it is true or not.
perhaps i didn't pay attention to something someone said on here.
but...he was pretty confident in what he said...
you know how awesome that would be?

i also heard that maybe dss would be playing with bb again or altamont.
they'd be switching members throughout all the sets.
everyone would be switching it up...and trying something new for each show.
i don't mean to be spreading rumors, but i heard it from someone else.
someone please clarify this for me.

Melvins Discussion / hex me
« on: August 14, 2006, 08:46:48 PM »
i now know that hex me would be really good for a  rap song.
listen to the scratching of the chords at the end.
fits great, and has that spooking kinda bewitching riff going on too, like something in a dark rap.

i know that dead wipe is also about someone who is dragged around a lot...possibly him?
altamont's pedigree is about someone who gets treated like a dog or shit.
call me an idiot but i couldn't read into it if i wasn't on pot.
i don't usually listen to dale's voice while smoking.

(remember this is usually at places where i have no control of the music...)
i listen to it so much too, that's what's so surprising, 'dale crover' almost every other day.

Melvins Discussion / DVD
« on: August 01, 2006, 05:26:28 PM »
I just watched SoaTD for the zillionth time a few minutes ago
and I was thinking that if The Melvins should ever do another DVD
now would be the best time, considering having the BB boys with them.
BB puts on a great show plus Buzz and Dale...mmm...gots to be good cinema.

Melvins Discussion / Does anyone love the original Pearl Bomb?
« on: July 03, 2006, 07:29:15 PM »
This has urked me about what some of you have said before, that the new pearl bomb is totally better than the old.
I would say it is better, but I do have nights where I totally dig the old pearl bomb more.
It's a masterpiece and always was, maybe people didn't think much of it, because they didn't know whether to
classify as a melvins piece made by buzz and dale, or one made by a mysterious bassist.
whoever the bassist is who is playing it...it makes me want to stalk people.
it has that total feel of being out at night.
i love it.
i never heard much about pearl bomb from other people's mouths until newdini came out.
what's your feelings on it?
