It probably wasn't as long as the triples sets in the 90s? But in 2009 they had green river open for 1.5 hours which was painful, then they opened for themselves as buzz and dale and did a short set, then opened for themselves again as melvins 83 and played all the way through mangled demos, then did all of Houdini with Trevor Dunn. That was a long ass set. Especially starting with an hour and a half of poorly mixed green river. But the melvins end of the set was so killer! That's maybe not the longest set they've done but counting green rivers set it was certainly the longest show I've ever been to.

I caught the Seattle show and the Portland show and I have to say, Steven is an awesome fit! Buzz seems like he's having a lot of fun on this tour, and napalm deaths kick drums are all I could hear. Oh and the vocals lol I mean at times you could hear more but those kick drums were a little too much haha

Well I based my decision on the Seattle show Sunday where the melt banana finished at 9... I was running late. But made it in at 9 and missed 4 melvins songs :(

I just witnessed two nights in a row of Steven McDonald on bass. The energy, tone and riffage he brings is stellar. Watch out - in my opinion this is the best lineup I have seen live! (the only lineups that I have never seen live are the Buzz/Mike/Lukin and Buzz/Dale/Joe lineups.)

this is the impression ive been getting, but didnt want to jump to conclusions... all i know is i watch every melvins video i can find, ive seen a lot, theyre mostly all in line with eachother, and then i watched the eye flys and suddenly it hit me like BAM this is different in the best way possible!

yeah. im pumped.

dumpster d, its not that i'm trying to compare them or rank and judge them so much as trying to communicate what im hearing in a relative way, which ends up being by comparison to a degree.

i like all the players theyve had, even lukin. but ive personally seen 4 different bass lineups live so far, and im getting the vibe that steves gonna be my favorite. but that doesnt take away from any of the other players at all. its just that steve seems to fit in really really well and bring a sort of fresh energy to the band or something.

steve sounds a lot like lennon at times!

so now i want them to do twist and shout with steve.

yeah! i was getting that vibe too! its i never really think about how that matters, but even just listening without seeing, that energy comes through the music too. its weird. but yeah im really excited about steve! i hope they do a full length lp with him! plus he could do some mean ass lennon covers if they chose to go that route!

like can you imagine a twist and shout cover?

to be honest, ive only seen a couple videos here and there of steve with the melvins... but for whatever irrational reason, hes already possibly my favorite player theyve had with them. something about him just makes perfect sense to me! hes can do the mark d stuff, hes got the chords that give him that joe preston girth, and his tone is good, and yeah. i dunno. i know there are other players that are really good, and i like them too. but this is the most exciting line up to me now that im seeing some videos. maybe ill change my mind at some point, but man im stoked!

plus im looking into redd kross now, and hes john lennon and geddy lee put together sorta hahaha at least from what ive seen so far. which is almost nothing lol

No it just seems the powerful tom work is fading away or something. It's not the time signatures, that hasn't changed anyway. It's just he doesn't sound like crover as much anymore. Eh whatever, maybe I'm just being wayyyy too picky here haha. It's obviously just me.

No I don't feel that way about that album. Chicken and dump has boring as drums, but that's the only one I remember being bored with. I'd have to go back and listen to it all again but off the top of my head I know there was blast beats on the last song. Maybe what it is, is buzz hasn't been challenging him too much lately? I'm assuming he was the drummer on the dale crover ep, which had pretty straight forward drumming too so idk maybe that's a part of it.

does it seem to anybody else like dales drumming has turned boring after coady entered? before coady he always seem to play stuff that challenged the songs rhythms but now he just keeps a beat in most stuff. i mean its no big deal, but i think thats whats been missing for me for a while. there are still songs with killer drums, but especially their most recent stuff seems either rushed, or just lazier than the melvins standard. . . which is still hard working of course.

maybe i should word it as after coady he doesnt use toms all that much.

idk maybe ill warm up to it, but this kinda reminds me of captain comedown. it actually kinda sounds like a this machine kills artist song with electric guitar and bass and drums...

welp, the online preview came out today for preorderers...

i have to say track six has a bit of tool to it... regardless of who influenced who in the scenario... having said that, the next track reminds me of patton to some degree...

thats really all i wanted to say for now. just trying to wet some appetites.

and spoiler alert.....

we get to hear crover do blast beats.... never thought that would happen... unless i just missed something
