This has been bugging me for years.  Does anyone know why the Third Man HOUDINI reissue art is different than the OG? Ignoring things like font and ink color, there's rather extreme discrepancies like both kids hands are redrawn (with fingernails this time), the girls' left arm is redrawn, the boy's shoe is redrawn, the colored stripes in the background are different, and perhaps most telling, there's no Kozik signature in the right corner anymore.

I have the two lined up (almost) exactly here for folks to see the most extreme differences easily, circled in yellow.  But there's a ton of subtle differences throughout.  This clearly isn't the original art, but what is it? And why wasn't the OG used?

Got my record yesterday.  Awesome neon art.  Question for those that got it: Is there a sound dropout for everyone for a split second on the last song, TODAY YOUR LOVE, right at the tail end of Buzz saying "Little German Boy" in the first chorus?

This is the first song Melvins and Redd Kross played in San Diego.

This isn't "Cover Band", it's "Standing in Front of Poseur" (though there is a similarity so I can see someone getting them mixed up)

Great show. I don't think there were any surprises on the setlist, though they seemed to do two songs at the end with Redd Kross.

Yeah the first song they did with Redd Kross in the encore is a RK song called STANDING IN FRONT OF POSEUR.  Then they closed with DEUCE.

100% agree. Buzz's guitar tone used to sound incredible, but now he plays that squawk box sounding thing through a single half stack (the other half stack up there isn't even on)
All of the speakers you see on stage are powered on. The two amp heads you see, one is strictly a backup. Watch the rig rundown.

Yeah, I've seen the rundown, and seen him play live half a dozen times with this new setup.  He used to use multiple heads through multiple cabs, and they were face meltingly loud. The last show of theirs I saw (the Echo in LA last year) I was directly in front of his amp, front row, and I could BARELY feel the power. Time before that, at the Troubadour, front row in front of him and I could barely hear the guitar at all.  It's just a really weak setup for this style of music, whereas previously I may have pointed to his live gear as a reference point for how heavy guitar rock should sound.

Still, I cannot wait for him to lose that EGC guitar. The heft is gone. Same situation with Duane Dennison on the Jesus Lizard reunion shows. Those guitars are souped up banjos, they just don't cut it.

100% agree. Buzz's guitar tone used to sound incredible, but now he plays that squawk box sounding thing through a single half stack (the other half stack up there isn't even on) - The heaviness is at about 50% what it used to be. I didn't even buy tix to this current tour cuz their live sound has been pretty disappointing to me the last 5 years or so.  And I also agree with the criticisms of recent Melvins albums in this thread.  At this point, I'm buying them strictly out of habit.  I haven't listened to any of them more than a couple times really since SENILE.  They all sound pretty tossed off to me, especially the last few.

I'll always love Melvins but I haven't been really excited by the band in quite some time. (shrug)

Just listed some MELVINS records for sale on Discogs, including the NYE split with REDD KROSS from 2012, and the hand numbered (#11 out of 40) SUICIDE IN PROGRESS tour only single from 2011.

I really miss that heavy, low end Gibson sound through multiple tube amps.  Big and warm and fuzzy.  The EGC through solid state just don't even compete.

Buzz has played solid state amps since the beginning of the band.  There never was a multiple tube amp rig, other than the occasional backline/rented Marshall jcm 800/900.

Ok, then I amend to say I really miss the Gibson through multiple solid state amps at full volume, haha.  The Gibson definitely sounds a bazillion times better to me, and they've been playing at like half the volume they used to lately. Even the EGC on the albums sounds shitty to me.  All midrange.

Quote from: black stallion on January 29, 2017, 09:31:29 AMi think the more they get old the less they care about gear on stage. been reading an interview with Dale saying during the Mark D era they alwas wanted the maximum on stage, speaking of cabs and gear and drum kit. now they know what they need..the essential!

I've seen The Melvins countless times over the years and Buzz's guitar tone keeps getting weaker and weaker.  I really miss that heavy, low end Gibson sound through multiple tube amps.  Big and warm and fuzzy.  The EGC through solid state just don't even compete.  Sounds like a squawk box to me.  Oh well.  I was at this show and they were great.  Sounded better than last time I saw them, at the Troubadour with Napalm Death.  They sounded horrible at that show.  Buzz's guitar was soooooooo weak.

It was a good show.  I have to say, I was expecting SOMETHING different, as it was a NYE show that cost $60 (free champagne?  guest musicians?) but other than bringing out a former member for a song in the Redd Kross set, it was pretty much business as usual for both Melvins and Redd Kross.  Luckily, business as usual is stellar from both these bands.

Here's a pic I snapped.

Did anyone stay for Redd Kross?

Of course.  Redd Kross is amazing.

Saw all the Melvins, minus Buzz, watching their set and singing along.  Maybe Buzz was around, too, but didn't see him.

Great show from both bands.  Loved hearing HAG ME, AMAZON and THE BIT in the Melvins set.  Got the 12" NYE split, and the new 1983 10".

I sent an order for an Orange box set seven minutes after he sent out the email.  Hope I wasn't too late.  Haven't got confirmation back, yet.

Yeah, I was standing right in front of Mackie and saw it all go down.  The chick pushed her way up front mid-set (I was at the front of the stage), and kept tapping my arm, telling me to let her in front of me because she was shorter.

"No," I told her simply.  (a pet peeve of mine...Get here at fucking 8:30 like me if you want to be up front)

Then she started thrashing about, like a one woman mosh pit, just elbowing everyone in sight.  Mackie tried to push her away from us, and the chick went full on crazy.  Bit her, swung at her...The works.  Kept trying to plow her way back up to, seemingly, murder Mackie.

Buzz moved to the front of the stage and kept an eye on it, without stopping the song.  When everyone pushed the girl back and she disappeared, Buzz relaxed and went back into the groove.  Mackie moved to the very front and sat down on the edge of the stage in front of her friend (actress Jane Adams)

That's about it.  Show continued.  Mackie nursed her hand wound.

Should be fixed now.  I had "priority" clicked, when it should have been "first class".
Do Ebay automatically quote you a postage cost? I don't know about that one.

Yes, you enter the weight of the package, then click which service you will use (USPS) and it fills in the shipping cost based on the weight and wherever the buyer lives, in your case: Europe.  Someone looking at the auction in Japan will see a different shipping amount, etc.
