Melvins Show Reviews / June 11, Dallas, TX, Trees.
July 06, 2015, 02:39:38 AM
I saw Melvins in Dallas, TX on June 11. It was the first Melvins concert I've ever been to, and they did not disappoint. A band called "Le Butcherettes" opened for them, and I liked them. I might be mistaken but I believe they are a Garage Rock band from Mexico. They finished their set, and then a loud laughing/coughing noise that sounded like the beginning to Sweet Leaf by Black Sabbath came on, and played for about ten minutes. The curtains slightly opened, and I knew from the moment that I saw the tip of that glorious grey flowery head, it was going to be amazing. The curtains opened completely, and they started with a typical Melvins guitar static and unorthodox drum playing for about two minutes, and then played Hag Me. I don't remember the whole setlist but I do remember some of the best tracks being The Bit, Youth of America (the Wipers cover), Hag Me, Sweet Willy Rollbar, and of course, Night Goat. I only had two minor complaints. One was that a typical lame biker gang was there and since they were all terrifyingly obese, whenever they would go to grab their 10th or 11th beer, I would have to feel their fat asses dragging against me. My second was that Buzz didn't say one word to the audience, but hey at least that left time for more music. At the end, however, Dale gave us a nice, "We fuckin' love you Dallas! Thank you!"

Overall I would rate 9/10. It was great and Buzzo's wizard garb covered with eyeballs only made it better.

If you could use three words to describe Melvins, what would they be?

Obviously, Black Sabbath is the most influential metal band of all time, but would you consider Melvins the second most influential? They are responsible for creating/inspiring several genres, so I don't see why not.

Melvins Discussion / Best cover of a Melvins song?
July 03, 2015, 10:25:55 PM
What do you think is the best cover you've heard of a Melvins song? I'd say the best is probably Mastodon's cover of The Bit. The Dillinger Escape Plan also did a pretty good cover of Honey Bucket.
