Melvins Discussion / Kevin Rutmanis
August 16, 2005, 06:44:52 AM
This was just posted on the Melvins listserv.............

I just got back from the Dinosaur Jr show here in San
Diego. We walked in around 7:30 to see a shit band
called Alaska playing. They sounded like U2 doing
Pearl Jam covers. First thing I notice after looking
at them, THEIR BASSIST IS SPINNING AROUND DROOLING ON
HIMSELF, DOES THAT GUY THINK HE'S KEVIN? OH SHIT, IT
IS KEVIN!!!

After the song ended I yelled, "MELVINS" and the
singer said "Hey Kevin, did you just tell me to fuck
off?". Tried that again after the next song and Kevin
looked down and the singer said "Kevin, I think that
guy's trying to start a fight with you". Kevin didn't
seem to mind but the singer was obviously getting
pissed. After their third song I yelled "BORIS!!" and
KEVIN STARTING JAMMING THE BASS LINE TO BORIS!!!

There you have it, that's what Kevin is up to.

Melvins Discussion / DALE IS OUT!!!
July 15, 2005, 07:48:45 AM
HOLY SHIT! Is this really true? That would be a spectacle for sure. Jared and Cody are good guys, rock hard and play with a lot of heart. I think that would be an interesting show. Probably sure to spawn more "damn Melvins collaborrating" threads.

Melvins Show Reviews / Melvins pics 03-07-04
July 11, 2005, 07:15:08 AM
Many of you might have already seen these but I think they are great so I wanted to make sure. I don't know who took the pics, but some are really good and they deserve credit. On another note, I threw away all my crappy 80's metal cassettes that had been sitting in a box in the closet, and I feel cleansed. Electroretard arrived in the mail the same day, and as I was listening to "Lovely Butterflies" I realized that I will miss Kevin's bass humping antics.

Allright, I have found many of the previous posts pretty damn funny in reference to not liking Biafra, blah, blah, blah. BUT, I have to say that I saw the Melvins and Biafra two nights in a row in Seattle over New Years 2005. The show KICKED MAJOR ASS. I know this will sound disturbing to you naysayers out there, and I admit that I am NOT a big Jello fan. BUT, the shows were very good and they played HARD. I have been following the Melvins since '85 and I have to say that they always change and have created many different kinds of music over the years, some of which has not been exactly popular, BUT ironically THAT music seems to be the music most favored by the members of the band. Everyone has their own musical tastes and I CERTAINLY understand why you might think Jello is screwing around with your favorite band where he shouldn't belong. Every band has bad nights for one reason or another, but the Biafra Melvins shows I saw were sweet. David Scott Stone and Adam Jones were there backing up Buzzo. Dale was as great as ever, I don't think he has ever had a bad show, he would play his heart out even if the crowd was 20 people. I've seen it. This band is the fucking greatest and I hope they find a new bassist who will bring them to the next chapter. AND Yeah I do prefer the Melvins themselves, non-colloborating; but WTF    ........enough of my bullcrap.

Melvins Discussion / Buzz: "Kevin is out!"
June 21, 2005, 01:07:13 PM
Quote from: klumpeverybody relax. no KNOWS anything yet.

I suggest we wait and till we get the news from Ipecac.
Kevin is a brilliant bassplayer so it would be really sad to see him go.
But I dont believe before I hear it from a source I can really trust.

I trust what Goodtimes has to say, his information has been reliable in the past. And he's right, Buzz is a nice guy, so is Crover; they'll do whatever is in the best interest for the band. I'm bummed that Kevin is apparently out, but they must have a good reason.

Melvins Discussion / 1st cd???
June 12, 2005, 05:42:08 PM
The Melvins have kind of had three transitions, Pre-Atlantic, Atlantic, Ipecac. All of it is good to me, but I suggest Bullhead for the newbie. I'm not even saying it's my favorite, but it would make a good first impression, and it's a classic.

It's a good thing too, I hear Lukin has a day job as a carpenter and is not playing music any more.

You are correct SNIVLEM, the 1984 track from the DVD is called Matt-Alec, and it is featured twice on the new release. I think Dale's drumming on the DVD version is damn hilarious compared with his hard hitting heavy style of today. He has a tiny little kit and he's playing like a jazz drummer or something. Not that there's anything wrong with that...  You're right it is a good song, and if I'm not mistaken it sounds like Buzz is singing in a bit of an English accent. Both versions on the Mangled Demos are a bit different, and both are good.

Mangled Demos from 1983 due out May 31st on Ipecac
Tuesday, April 05, 2005 - 11:40 AM
from southern.com: * Mangled Demos From 1983 * CD * Ipecac Records * IPC-63

15 trks, 44 mins. No way! This is the very first time these demos have ever been released and they sound as raw & vital as they did back then, feat. the 1st Mike, Matt, Buzz lineup.

It is to be released in the U.S. on May 31st according to cduniverse.com. This stuff has only been available in bootleg form at this point, here.

Here's an update from pitchforkmedia including the tracklist:The new CD features several songs whose titles got lost somewhere in the last 22 years; rather than making up new ones, the Melvins appear to have assigned them little graphical doodles, which makes the following tracklist a bit of a bitch to reprint. Meanwhile, some songs are included twice, and others run together, producing a total of 18 tracks that, in some abstract sense, look like this:

01 Elks Lodge Christmas Broadcast
02 If You Get Bored - live radio
03 Forgotten Principles
04 Snake Appeal
05 [flower]
06 If You Get Bored
07 Set Me Straight
08 [communist star]
09 I'm Dry
10 Forgotten Principles
11 I Don't Know
12 Matt-Alec
13 The REAL You
14 Run Around
15 Keep Away From Me
16 [clover]
17 Bibulous Confabulation (during rehearsal)
18 [iron cross]
19 [pencil]
20 Matt-Alec
21 "Walter"
22 [broken scissors]
23 [airplane]
