I saw Mike Dillard's band "King Fu" last night in Olympia. They did one Melvins cover "Queen". The rest was fast rock, mostly original, a couple other covers. They're not sludgy or "Melviny", but they were tight. Dillard's a good drummer, it was interesting to see him live. He's got advance copies of the new Melvins release and I checked it out. For those who don't know, it's all Dillard on the upcoming '83 mangled demos. There is a hilarious live radio broadcast on the CD, plus a recording of Buzz, Lukin, Dillard and friends arguing over some food. There are a lot of great songs on it, I thought it might turn out to be sort of a "collectors" release for die hard fans, but it's really good. Mackie's artwork is cool, and Buzz wrote 3 pages of liner notes that are also pretty damn hilarious about his early days growing up before he left for California. i.e. throwing molotov cocktails, getting chased by the cops, and other general drunken debauchery.
