Melvins Discussion / Dillard
April 24, 2005, 03:56:17 PM
I saw Mike Dillard's band "King Fu" last night in Olympia. They did one Melvins cover "Queen". The rest was fast rock, mostly original, a couple other covers. They're not sludgy or "Melviny", but they were tight. Dillard's a good drummer, it was interesting to see him live. He's got advance copies of the new Melvins release and I checked it out. For those who don't know, it's all Dillard on the upcoming '83 mangled demos. There is a hilarious live radio broadcast on the CD, plus a recording of Buzz, Lukin, Dillard and friends arguing over some food. There are a lot of great songs on it, I thought it might turn out to be sort of a "collectors" release for die hard fans, but it's really good. Mackie's artwork is cool, and Buzz wrote 3 pages of liner notes that are also pretty damn hilarious about his early days growing up before he left for California. i.e. throwing molotov cocktails, getting chased by the cops, and other general drunken debauchery.

Melvins Discussion / What nationality is Buzzo?
April 23, 2005, 04:30:20 PM
I met Buzz's mom and dad last year at the 20th show and they are both white, for what it's worth. They are both very nice (have you ever met anyone associated with the Melvins who wasn't)?? I think Buzz would find it amusing that people would even care what ethnicity he is. I am sure he would have some kind of witty smart assed comment about it.

No way dude, I was speaking from Hrbek's point of view as to what he must have been thinking. Buzz's fro is the shit.

Hrbek looks likes he's shifted to one side like he's afraid to get too close to Buzz's fro! He looks a little freaked to be sitting next to the king. "We don't cotton to you types 'round here, he-he".

I met the merch guy at the PORN show in Olympia, WA a few weeks ago. He was selling posters exploiting Mr. Richie Goodtimes.    He was very friendly and an all around nice guy.

Hey Klump, trust me......you will luck out man, sooner than later. It's the US side on the short end this time. Europe is in the cards.
#654
I will bet that the Melvins will play Europe before they play the US again, probably within the next 3 months. It will happen, and it will be my turn to whine.

It's the Melvins in all their embryonic glory! They are just trying to find their way, starting to begin to evolve some kind of sound. Some of it's pretty damn funny too, Buzz sings in an English accent on some of it, going for a punk edge. If you are a die hard Melvins fan you'll appreciate the early stuff, even though the recordings are raw, as is the music. You're right though, Crover has the power. Every project he has ever done has been the shit. BUT, if you've ever seen him on the salad of a thousand delights DVD, he's playing like Charlie Watts or something. It's pretty hilarious.

Melvins Discussion / KEVIN IS BACK!!
February 24, 2005, 10:48:15 PM
I know you chaps already broke the outstanding news, but this is such a fine announcement it deserves its own headline. Can anyone who saw the london show give any particulars about Kevin's playing or antics? Did everyone freak out when he walked out? Did Buzzo make up some weird comment about Kevin being missing? Man, I for one am glad he's back. Kevin has been a good fit for the band and he completes the circle.

Melvins Discussion / melvins shows

Yeah, I was front left on the stage all night. Ruby Doe was good, Big Business still amaze the hell out of me, the drummer is an animal. Steve Turner of Mudhoney broke I don't know how many strings and they had to keep stopping. They did not seem like they were super into it for some reason but what the hell, it's all good. I told Jared of Big Business that we came all the way from Aberdeen to see them after they blew us away at Neumo's New Year's Eve.
