Mods, any chance of getting this thread stickied until the campaign is over?  Just an idea.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Dale

I'd love to sit down and have a few beers with Dale; Buzz, not so much.

Yeah, that about sums it up.

Man, this was fantastic -- thanks for posting!  I like how Dale gives it the treatment without overpowering them.  He was likely having as much fun as they were... and the guitarist and singer weren't bad either!

I think my first run in with them was in around 91 or 92, via an Ozma cassette I can't remember how I acquired (boy howdy do I wish I'd held onto that one).  I'd heard of them prior to this, but never bothered to check them out.  Unlike many, I can't say I was instantly hooked.  I chalked them up to "decent band, didn't make me lose sleep for repeat listens."

I was re-introduced a few years later, maybe 93ish(?) when living with spunkmonkey and a bunch of other miscreants near the end of college.  Houdini was somehow in pretty regular rotation at the house as we did stupid college shit.  I don't remember who was responsible for this, but I agree with spunkmonkey -- glen was likely involved somehow.  I grew to like this album quite a bit, but they still didn't crack my "follow obsessively" list.

Then later, as an "adult," I saw that they'd been signed to Ipecac.  Being a fan of underdog stories, their music and Mike Patton, I thought to myself "wow, that's great.  they never should've signed to a major."  Later, I picked up The Maggot and loved it.

Then kinda forgot about them again.

Then I found out in 2006 that my technophobic friends glen and spunkmonkey had actually joined a BBS on the (gasp!) internet.  So I came here to harass them.  I've been here ever since.  I listen to the Melvins about once per month, still, and have caught probably 75% of their shows here since moving to SF.  They're a slow burn, or like a wart that just won't go away for me.  And I hope they never do go away.  I'm definitely a fan, but not a fanboy.

I'm pretty sure Idlehanz is going to be there.  I'll be in Hawaii at the time, otherwise I'd at least pop over for a pint pre-show.  Ether Bunny, you going?  With spunkmonkey, grim, buick and cheeseburger all moved away, the bay area is pretty slim on boardies these days.

Am I the only one who thinks Trevor is the most nondescript looking human being on the planet?  I've been following his music for 20 years, count myself as a big fan, have seen him in photos and live on numerous occasions, but the man could literally walk unannounced into my kitchen and say "Hi, Dan!  I'm Trevor!  Thanks for the support!" and I'd be like "Hi, Trevor!  Who the fuck are you and why are you in my kitchen?"

Where's Plucky when you need her?  I'm sure she'd have realized by now that cantona is Buzz himself!  Don't you all see?  canatona backwards is anotanac, which is latin for....

Ok, I got nothin.  Carry on.

Maybe it's my past weekend, but does anyone else see a Booji Boy in that photo?

To those with warped versions....

Given the response from IPECAC, I hope you all realize you're sitting on collectors' gold.  If I cared a touch more, I'd be buying up as many first pressings as possible.  Just sayin.

This thread is ridiculous.

D.J. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince will NEVER go out of style.

Parents just don't understand, Mike.

Sorry, it was obligatory.

Dale is the greatest drummer ever.

Dale is the new John Bonham
WRONG!

Any fool knows Dale is far better in every way.  He plays harder, longer, faster, slower, and doesn't die.  He's also more original.  He also sings and plays guitar.  And he could kick Bonham's ass.  All facts.

I hear he also kilt hisself a grizzly bar with his bare ole hands at th' age uh four.  True story.  It's in the bible.

Just teasing, Stee :)
