I do like The Bit.

And the horns in Bar-X the Rocking M are cool.

I finally plunked down the money over at amazon.com and got a used copy (it was still $15) of Stag.

My first impressions are:  Its... kinda okay?

That doesn't sound like something I'd say about a Melvins album.

I need some more time with this one, I think.

I kinda like Beck, he's one of the more interesting mainstream faces these days.

But thats like being the tallest of the Seven Dwarves.

Still, I dig his tunes.

Odelay is great.

I liked Guero, poppy or not, it was a very solid album.

And I really liked the whole, "make your own album art" idea with The Information.

Did anyone do that?  We could all post our custom album covers. :D

No, but I made a Melvins fan at work.  I had my boss listen to some of the double drummer work on (A)SA and he went home and downloaded a ton of Melvins mp3s

He told me later that he really liked "Black Santa" among other tracks.

If its, say, (A)SA, then it feels like I'm running alongside a thundering frieght train, I'm barely keeping up but I'm oddly not out of breath.

If its, say, Bullhead or Lysol, then it feels like I'm being slowly crushed by a mossy boulder rolling at 1/48 mph.

Wow, Amazon was pretty sweet.

Gotta dig that riff.

Chugga-chugga-reeoowrr, chugga-chugga-reeoowrr, chugga-chugga-reeoowrr, chugga-chugga-reeoowrr...

Melvins Discussion / Re: Worst Melvins song

These probably don't count as songs, but there are two Melvins tracks that do absolutely nothing for me:

Spread Eagle Beagle
Lividity

QuoteThe Melvins are also famous for killing Tom Petty and inventing yelling during battles, and inventing yelling in general.

Wow thats funny.

What an awesome site, I can't believe no one thought of this sooner.

Thanks guys, this site is going to push out anything useful I was going to do with my time for about three weeks or so.

so when is that next ramones reunion getting together?

I wouldn't be surprised considering the New York Dolls, The Sooges and Radio Birdman all hopped on that bandwagon recently (its a shame only the Radio Birdman album was any good) .

But ouch, can you even imagine...?

"Come see the Ramones, live!  Featuring all three drummers and that other bass player no one liked that much!"

I kid CJ though, he was alright.  He wrote "Scattergun," after all.

Not true.  Except for Sid, everyone in that band was determined to get at least one album out.   Not comparable to the monkees.  Each person in the sex pistols had a definite talent.

As for the ramones, image was very key.  Leather jackets, Ramones nom, etc.   Image doesn't take away from musical talent.

Like I said, I do hold the Pistols in a much higher regard because they did play instruments, and they did know how to write songs and compose music.

As a marketing approach, though, I do think of them as kind of a punk Monkees.

I also want a Ramones style leather jacket.  Though I'd probably come off as a total fake if I wore one around town.

I hate the people that wear Ramones shirts everywhere and have no idea who they are.

Me too.

My rule of thumb is:  You should never have more T-shirts of a band than albums by the band.  So I have 15 Ramones albums, and 4 Ramones T-shirts.

Sex Pistols suck.

The Ramones were 100X better.

I disagree that the Pistols suck, but I do very much agree that the Ramones were 100x better.

al had it right. great music, lousy attitude towards an important form of expression. the green day of their time.

"The Green Day of their time."  That made me smile. :D

I kind of view the Sex Pistols in a similar way as I do the Monkees, since they were both manufactured bands used as cash in attempts on something someone saw as a good way to make money (though I hold the Pistols in higher regard since they, unlike the Monkees, actually did write their own songs and play their own instruments).  That view is that even though they were fake, they were good.  The Monkees have contributed some great 60's pop songs to the world.  The Sex Pistols have contributed some great rock 'n' roll songs to the world.

Once you get past the moral issues of the fact that both bands deliberately lied to everyone and distorted their public image with the sole intent of making money, you can start enjoying their music for what it was... good music.

Shortest punk song I have is "Quit Your Job" by Chixdiggit! which is 25 seconds long, or, for you fraction people, 5/12ths of a minute.

I like Chixdiggit! they are really really catchy in a very Descendents kind of way.
