Melvins Discussion / Re: Dale and Shrinebuilder

I think Shrinebuilder is a pretty good example of the problem with super groups. Each of these guys was involved in other very active bands and this project wasn't their main gig. I'm sure they were friendly with one another, but I don't know that they had any kind of working relationship with each other before this project.  I'm sure whatever time time they had to put it all together was super rushed. Then you take the fact that you're combining all these veterans who haven't worked with each other much and they're working out an album's worth of material in a short period of time, combine that with the expectations of fans who worship the bands they normally play in, and it's going to be hard to meet expectations. Not many super groups are all that super. I think the Traveling Wilburys might have done it best. I've always liked what I've heard from The Highwaymen and the videos I've seen of them performing, but I finally bought their album and it's not that great. The creative process is a funny thing.
Couldn't have put it any better. They usually sound like a promising idea, but it's not enough to just have some fun together, it doesn't automatically make you come up with great songs too...

Melvins Discussion / Re: In depth Trevor Dunn interview

Well, if your translation abilities from French to English are any better than his then I am sure the interviewer will be very happy about your input and help! Want me to put you two in touch?

Hands down one of the best 10 shows I've ever been to. And possibly the best Melvins show I've ever seen (and I've seen dozens...). Just a perfect set from beginning to end.

What makes it even greater is the fact that the band had actually flown to Europe just for this one show - flew in, drove to the festival, killed it for one hour, and flew back. Just fucking impressive.

I actually suggested to Buzz once to release it, some years ago. Didn't get much of a reaction. Who knows also what the rights situation is with the festival...

I'm still hoping for a second edition with subtitles.
I'm sure a lot more people would be interested then, especially non-native English speakers like me.

I don't think Metallica would accept having assigned the songs they'll play....

Such a thoughtful, kind gentleman.
Yeah, I totally agree. Thanks for posting this interview!

Also really nice to hear Dale talk about Grohl and Nirvana without any sarcasm and cynicism.

In this particular case, Dale found them and then Buzz and him invited them on the tour.

great show, as always, although i also appreciate the slow and heavy more than the fast and punky. but any set with "the bit" and " let it all be" and "eye flys" and "don't forget to breathe" in it will work just fine for me  :D

loved watching jeff and steven duel each other.
the only thing with having the two of them there is that to my ears the basses took a little too much of buzz' sonic space away. but that may sound differently in different venues of course.

what did you guys think of the sound yesterday? took a long time for the sound man to get the basses right, first 2o minutes were a distorted mess i thought...

It is the 10th of October at Berghain Kantine...

Is that the small (200) capacity bar?
I think it will be the club's main floor again, just like the last time they played there. Maybe they enjoyed the dark rooms so much :-).
if it really is the kantine - then yes, that is the small place outside of the main building.

just what i thought when i read this. it would make sense too, keeping the travel party small, like they did with redd kross in europe last year. would love to see dale play do his solo stuff!

great interview otherwise. dale is such an open and friendly guy. one of the nicest people i've ever met in the music business.

Your formatted copy+pasting of articles and interviews does not go unappreciated, Jules
