Melvins Discussion / Re: Melvins summer dates!!!

I'm waiting for an LA date but if they don't book one or book one on a day I can't make it I'm going to the SD show, so maybe I'll see you there.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Best Melvins album as of 2009

I voted for Hostile Ambient Takeover too. To call it the best Melvins release is a bit of a stretch, since all of the studio albums are great, but I feel that it's the one album that blends experimentation and songcraft the most seamlessly. The fact that it was the first Melvins album I ever heard probably has a lot to do with the way I voted as well.

The sound quality isn't great but it's not very hard to picture the Melvins doing an amazing cover of this song. Just imagine Dale and Coady playing the opening drum beat...

I think my favorite Melvins moment was the Lysol/Eggnog show in 2007. Watching them open with Charmicarmicat was amazing and may be the most intense performance I've ever seen.

Melvins Show Reviews / Re: Canes SD 10-17-09

I liked Psychic Ills and Melvins played one of the best sets I've seen with the current lineup, but I felt that Butthole Surfers set was dull. Gibby looked bored. Dale filling in for Teresa on a few songs was pretty cool though. The security was unusually strict. The guy standing next to me got dragged out of the bar in a headlock. Even though the BHS were disappointing it was still a good show.

It lists the date on the Ipecac website and I've gotten a few confirmation e-mails from Canes, so as far as I can tell it's happening

I wanna pick up this album.

I'm glad Masonna is not on it...that would really suck... But he only uses a box of coins to make all his noises so he probably doesn't do remixes.

Actually he uses vocals, modular synthesizers, a theremin, and effects pedals in addition to a box of coins. I think a Masonna remix would've been pretty cool.

EBM = Electronic Body Music, which is dance/industrial music as far as I know

Don't know what V/VM stands for

Saw 'em with Jello Biafra in 2005 at the Henry Fonda theater. Unfortunately it was right after Kevin left the band.

I've heard it about 3 times now. I really like it but I don't think it's going to appeal to anyone that doesn't already like noise music. There's some tracks that stand out more than others but I think it works best to just listen to the album in one sitting, since it's really a gigantic sound collage.
