Melvins Discussion / Re: Melvins and Down to tour

I don't post a lot but I've been ghost reading on this forum for almost five years now.  (and it's the only forum I've looked at since the official Ipecac one closed)

I've come to the conclusion that as a true Melvins fanboy at heart living in the American South I was:

a.)  the only one "here" that was REALLY excited about this bill, as a fan of both Melvins and Down (sporting a Pantera shirt as I type)

b.)  the only one "here" that truly "gets it"... I mean come on guys, Buzz deciding to open for a Phil Anselmo-led band for their 25th anniversary tour... FUCKING CLASSIC MOVE

c.)  the only one thinking that the Melvins, without question, SHOULD BE the openers on a bill like this (Weedeater playing first of course)

Lastly:  a tour was supposed to come to fruition with Weedeater, Hank III, and Down earlier this year, it was actually announced... and now it's Weedeater, Melvins and Down.  You see?  You can play all sorts of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" type shit there and win in the first move.  And Hank isn't playing in Europe until August 21 so yeah, expect all sorts of whiskey-drenched surprises on this tour.
Read this and learn. This guy knows the truth.

This is getting old.........on both sides.

I'm actually surprised to hear so much bitching.  I'm just happy to get to see the Melvins again this year and I'll be giving Down a chance.  I've said it before......You cannot judge a band until you've seen them live.

The main reason it's upsetting is because shows are more fun if the whole audience is into it.  Even if the Downs fans do like it it's just not the same.

Most elitist comment ever? Even if everyone likes it, Melvins get new fans and everyone enjoys themself, It wont be the same because they aren't tr00, hardcore fans? Behave.

Oh & if we're being a dick, Down board has 16k+ members, Melvins board has...2k+

Who can't use a computer?

You do realise it was the other way round?

Down fans were stoked to hear about a tour, Melvins fans were bitching because they didn't like the other act.

Also, considering Melvins make music to "lay on the floor and block your ears" to, who's sporting the cavemen mentality?

Fair enough. On the albums I've got (Bullhead & Stoner Witch) I thought it was relatively...regular really.

Neither band have benefited from commercial recognition (TV/radio play)

Remember that Down are producing these albums as a SIDE-PROJECT, in their 'down' time. They don't have time to fuck around with experimental tracks, when the album/tour is done they've got to go back and write awesome CoC, Crowbar, EHG etc albums.

The blind phanboi pops his head in again.

Note the part where I said it was down to personal preference, and even explained my reasoning?

I wont be waiting on you to do anything as simple.

That was a more civilised response.

After all that, you've barely even listened to the band? They've only had 3 records out in 15 years, in which time Melvins have put out 11. Despite this Down are experiencing considerable more success. I'd put that to Down producing higher quality albums personally...

That's all obviously to do with personal tastes, but I can't see what the huffuffle is all about, Down's planned support bands were Hank III (countrypunk), Evil Army (old school thrash) and Acid King (super doomy stoner metal), which I'd consider a much more varied choice than Melvins. It sounds like they've had odd support bands in the past themselves.

I assume you mean "Colossus of Destiny", which I've personally never heard of.

"members of the audience were lying on the ground, covering their ears during this performance."

If that is supposedly their musical peak, I think I'll pass. Compared to NOLA, arguably the most well respected stoner/doom/sludge album of all time, I know where I stand.

Down are probably alot more diverse than you expect, it isn't all Bury Me In Smoke. They've got light, acoustic tracks, instrumentals, bouncy crowd moving tracks, 9 minute progressing epics.

At the end of the day, one band is headlinging stages at festivals whilst the other is struggling to keep playing. Neither of them are more 'commercially acceptable'. Make your own decisions as to what that means. I know it definitely means Melvins will be supporting for one.

Right, I can't be arsed with this trolling shit anymore, it's too easy.

To be honest, you lot have all come across vastly more ignorant and idiotic than the Down fans. I was fucking excited when I heard Melvins had been added, I like them and appreciate their music.

Then I heard that apparently the Melvins' fans weren't too happy. I checked it out. You lot are making fools of yourselves. The two bands are close friends producing music with many crossover fans. Both bands even consider Sabbath as their major influnece. I can't see why you lot see this as such an offensive tour.

Down isn't Pantera. Down fans aren't Pantera fans. Phil Anselmo today isn't Anselmo ala 1988-2006, he's an entirely changed man. The guy in my av isn't me.

Practically every comment you've added to this thread has added to your obvious ignorance.
As opposed to all of the enlightened golden nuggets of wisdom you've shared?  You're right, Melvins fans are the most ignorant close-minded bunch of knuckledraggin' lunkheads ever to befoul this great land with their tainted presence.  You win.  Well argued.  Hats off.
No, does it look like I've been trying to display any intelligence? I've been playing into your preconceived perceptions of Down fans and it proves your ignorance perfectly.

Down fans are a million miles away from Pantera fans. Clearly never heard of the Brotherhood of Eternal Sleep... Down fans are tight, true group of fans who appreciate real music.

I also wouldn't consider either band to be considerably 'heavier' than the other, so I don't know where these thoughts of angry stampeding circle pits has come from. It's stoner/blues/doom metal at the end of the day, people are their to bang their head. Slowly.

if you knew anyfin about the band you'd know nathan gales motives.   n00b

look, you started this Von Douche. Don't expect me to pull any punches. The Melvins are a 100 times better band than Down & Pepper is a 100 times better singer than Phil...Down should kick out Phil & let the real singer sing,Pepper.
