Melvins Discussion / Re: Melvins 2015 Dates
August 06, 2015, 03:22:09 PM
All the bassists have their own thing going on with the Melvin's. I think Jared has one of the best bass tones around in general, its a big wall of sound you can't escape. I love pinkus just as much, its like he's always been a Melvin, his style and persona are unmatched plus his bass playing is spot on, heavy and entertaining as shit considering he's finger picking. Melvin's are always Melvin's no matter what bassist they bring on a tour or work with

Hmm i see Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. I know he's recorded Le Butcherettes recent record and has other close ties with Teri (in Bosnian Rainbows) but i wonder if he may work with Melvins? Would be a surprise if he did.

He was in the back room when we were talking to the band after the Sioux Falls show so I think he's been along for the ride on the tour. Not sure what his association is other than being a friend + producing Le Butcherettes, though. I'm guessing it's just that, but who knows  :o

I need to check out Bosnian Rainbows.
This makes me regret not talking to him when I saw le butcherettes open for antemasque last year. :( I had a clear chance. I think he would be cool to have on the Melvin's team as an occasional producer or something. He has a really good heart and mind towards music

why Lori and mark were there.

Mark was doing the live mixing for them for a while, I think.
That would make sense

I'm confused. So the reading festival they played was in August of 92, so that means Joe was on bass I'd think. But mark and Lori were there apparently. Maybe I'm tired and forgetting my Melvin history but can someone explain this to me, who was playing bass at the reading festival and why Lori and mark were there. I'm probably slipping up with my facts i thought i knew. Also talk about awkward that buzz and mark both were with lori. I had read that somewhere but forgot until now

Tupelo records owner Gary gave him that nickname because he said buzz was an opinonated asshole. Buzz liked the nickname. Theres an interview clarifying this but my crappy phone wont let me post it
I thought I heard Tom from Boner Records came up with that.
I'd take your word over mine

I have met Buzz three times in my life (once in 1990, once in 1995 and hung with him for an hour in 2012) and each and every time he has been nothing but a really nice guy. When I hung out with him I found him to be exactly the same kind of guy he is in audio/video interviews - very funny, witty, sarcastic and opinionated - but not at all like a dick. He tells it like it is, like he sees it. And I am sure in the world of "real Kurt Cobain/Nirvana" versus the world of "public perception/media creation/brand management Kurt Cobain/Nirvana" he must feel like he is beating his head against a wall. Two totally different stories.

When I recorded the Hex album with Earth, I talked to Dylan Carlson a bit about Kurt and Courtney. I won't go into detail because they are stories that are not mine to share (as they are Dylan's) but I can tell you that what Buzz is saying in his editorial is very much along the lines of what Dylan told me. That shit was DARK and gross - nothing at all neat-o or whatever the kids these days think the story is.

Makes me question everything I read or hear about other rock and rollers like Hendrix, Morrison etc.
I've had the same number of encounters with buzz as you and I must agree. Buzz is very misunderstood and misinterpreted. He could be a comedian if we wanted to, his humor is off the charts. He's always extremely nice and caring when I get the chance to speak with him

I ate bbq with dale crover.
If you have that chiselled on your headstone, I will personally see to it that a Boardie Meet and BBQ will happen every year in the place wherein you are interred.
I think I shall take you up on that offer

Dale said he recognized me and my gf at stubbs (bbq joint/music venue) as he ate with brian, bryant and dave before the show. Probably because I was glancing over at him from time to time and since I was wearing my black and pink pipe hold it in shirt. Its pretty noticeable. Its not everyday you eat in the same room with your hero. Lets just say I ate dinner with him. I ate bbq with dale crover.

great
I wish I ate with him, I have dreams :(

Nobody can deny the power of onions make the milk taste bad and sesame street blasting in your face live front row. Can't wait to see what is coming next. I should've asked buzz for a clue but I forgot!
You got the Hold It In scoop right, but why mess with success? Just retire with a 1000 batting average. Hall Of Famer.  :D
