Melvins Discussion / Buzz: "Kevin is out!"
June 20, 2005, 08:29:42 PM
Really sad news. Kevin was (is) a great bassplayer and it's sad to see personal differences forcing him out. I hope it's not true.

If the Melvins need a bass player I hope they do a wide search for a new one. I play bass, live in Califorina, and love everything the Melvins have put out. Hope Buzz gives me a shot! If not me, then I'm sure Buzz will find a great one. He's done it before.

Hey Beto, I live in the SF bay area and saw the May 2003 show at Slim's. Some of these pics are from that gig, and some are definitely not Slim's. I think you've got two shows mixed together...the other one looks like the Great American Music Hall - another venue here in SF that the Melvins have played at.

Quote from: BryanSheesh. I also checked stonerrock.com to see what melvins they offer. they have melvins/lustmord.  melvins/jello.  and under plain old melvins category the only song they offer is Shit Storm.  I don't exactly think SS is a good track to get people interested in this band.

LOL...funny thing is that SS is simply the song Revolve in reverse with a few extra noise effects thrown in.... i agree... SS is NOT the track to hook someone on the Melvins (Though oddly enough...Revolve might be....)

Melvins Discussion / Rest of 2004 Tour Dates Cancelled

Quote from: ghostpopradioall of you people whining about you dont get to see them...blah blah blah...
deal with it and stop complaining about your 12 dollar loss and your non refundable plane tickets...shit happens...and it will continue to happen untill you die...
as for kevin ...if you are ill get better and rock my ass some more....
as for the melvins fans ...relax....no matter what happens they will continue to rock you...just at a later date..

I can't believe how you misinterpret statements.

I was noting that tickets.com doesn't refund their charges for canceled events even though they do refund the ticket price itself. I don't blame the Melvins, Buzz, or Kevin.
In fact, I really can't blame tickets.com because that rule is posted on their website, and I didn't pay enough attention to make note of it. But, I was suprised. If someone out there that uses tickets.com wasn't aware of the policy...maybe I've saved them $12 for some other event. That's all. I know $12 isn't much in the grand scheme of things.

I'm disappointed that I don't get to see my favorite band, but I know that they'll return at another time. I hope Kevin is okay and returns to the lineup because I think he's great. I play bass myself and would love to sit in for Kevin until he gets better. It may not be drugs, the public simply doesn't know. Even if it is...they'll resolve it to my satisfaction because I've pretty much agreed and liked everything that the Melvins do. They're great artists and I like to see what they come up with.

If you think that was a whine then that's your problem.

Melvins Discussion / Rest of 2004 Tour Dates Cancelled

well this sux. I just got a call from Tickets.com where I had purchased my Melvins tix for the SF show.

They informed me they would be refunding me the ticket price, but not the service (convienience fee) that they assessed when I bought the tickets.

So, I lose $12 and get no show.  :(  That'll teach me to buy in advance, I guess.

I hope that whomever is affected by the illness gets well, because the Melvins are probably my favorite band.

If it's Kevin that is ill, I wish they'd call me. I play bass and know practically everything they do. I'd gladly sit in for him until he gets better.

Melvins Discussion / got my copy today

I did the AT mail order...

I agree...this is one of the more "listener friendly" Melvins releases in a while. It's good stuff, I like it a lot. (then again, I've liked almost everything that the Melvins have put out.)

I think it's really cool that the Melvins jam out with a lot of other artists/bands that I like.

The lyrics are definitely primarily Jello driven...political and social commentary abound.

Got my tix to see 'em in October!

Ok....  here is what I can recollect.

The show was kind of short. The opening act, Totimoshi was a 3 piece from Oakland. The drummer was a big bald guy that looked like he was from Midnight Oil or something. Chick bass player and a guitar player with a silver-ish les-paul-ish guitar.
They played a simliar musical vein as the Melvins, they weren't bad. I saw Buzzo watching the first couple of songs from the stage door. Totimoshi started a bit late and played about 30 mins.

Then the Melvins....Buzzo wearing his black tshirtdress with the tape on front, playing his trusty black Les Paul Custom. Dale was kinda hidden behind his drum kit, Kevin was wearing a housecoat to my girlfriend's suprise.

They opened with Let It All be. Great warmup.

Lovely Butterflies was next...Buzzo needed to adjust his volume level a couple of times on his amp.

Then I was a bit distracted ...so the next two songs are a blur. I remember a song off of stoner witch...then bullhead.

The Melvins then busted into a speedy version of the Wiper's "Youth of America". The Melvins usually do a pretty fast version, but this one seemed at time and a half or doubletime, almost. Great cover, I liked it.

Then came Teet...

Tipping the Lion...

Queen...

Next came a song I couldn't identify. It was a kinda downbeat bluesy song with Buzzo singing "it'll be alright" a lot.

Dale then did a little drum intro to a song off of Houdini...

Then another off Bullhead...I think it was It's Shoved....

Then the Melvins went into one of their epic, slow, spacey noisefests....
I couldn't identify the last 4 songs.

The show promptly ended at Midnight...very short it seemed. I think the Melvins played only a little over an hour total. I don't know if this was just the venue or what they had prepared, or what. Clubs in California tend to close early and I don't think it was the Band's choice.

Overall, it was a great show as usual....Buzzo and the boys mixed a great bunch of choice stuff from their past and a few new things. I must say...the Melvins rock.
