Melvins Discussion / (the) Melvins - Tarantula Heart
February 06, 2024, 04:50:21 AM
The first song has landed!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3vIxW4glK4

And here are some release details I discovered:
https://recordstoreday.com/UPC/689230027638

1. Pain Equals Funny
2. Working the Ditch
3. She's Got Weird Arms
4. Allergic to Food
5. Smiler

QuoteThe Melvins new album is like nothing the band has ever done before. Probably the best record they've ever recorded. Certainly one of their weirdest. The five song album centers around the mammoth 19-minute opening track "Pain Equals Funny" and features Buzz, Dale and Steven along with second drummer Roy Mayorga (Ministry, Soulfly, Stone Sour and Nausea) and guitarist Gary Chester (We Are The Asteroid). Vinyl comes in a Gatefold Jacket with 12pg booklet.

QuoteMelvins will reinterpret their own catalog and showcase some new covers on the grunge giant's massive new Five Legged Dog, a 36-track LP that doubles as the group's first-ever acoustic album.

"I knew I wanted to do something ridiculously big. Thirty-six songs reimagined by us acoustically is certainly ridiculous but it works! The magic of the songs is still there regardless of it being acoustic," Buzz Osbourne said in a statement of the pandemic-recorded album.

"Since we weren't touring we had the time to do something of this size. I'm very excited about this record. Dale [Crover] and Steven [McDonald] did a fantastic job on this. I think it's a very special record. I can't think of anyone else who's done something like this."

Five Legged Dog boasts acoustic takes on tracks from throughout the Melvins' enormous discography — from 1987's Gluey Porch Treatments to 2017's A Walk With Love & Death — as well as cuts from Crover's solo album, non-LP songs, and covers both previously recorded and attempted for the first time, like the Rolling Stones' "Sway," Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talking" (sung here by Butthole Surfers' Jeff Pinkus), and Brainiac's "Flypaper."

Ahead of Five Legged Dog's October 15th release via Ipecac Recordings, Melvins have shared their new rendition of "Night Goat," a standout from their 1993 LP Houdini; the acoustic version strips off the original song's fuzz and sludge while still capturing its grungy intensity.

Crover added in a statement: "They said it couldn't be done! Actually, they didn't say that, but the facts remain. We've taken some 30-plus songs that span our entire career and given them the acoustic treatment. There are also some fun cover songs, of course. We've covered songs by the Turtles and Brainiac!  I think people will be surprised that we can do an acoustic version of a song like 'Night Goat' without losing any of the heaviness. We also really worked hard on vocal arrangements. People are going to freak out!"

Five Legged Dog will be available to preorder Thursday, July 22nd in a variety of formats, including digitally and two-CD (both out October 15th) and four-LP colored vinyl that will arrive on January 28th.

Not quite sure what this is all about but I'm intrigued...
https://facebook.com/nerdtablemusic/posts/10156347988382464

QuoteNerd Table explodes with "It's Shoved/Milk It". This is a merging of the two legendary songs by (the) Melvins and Nirvana. Featuring the grunge pioneers themselves King Buzzo (vocals) and Dale Crover (guitar/vocals) of the legendary Melvins along with the producer and mixer of the track Billy Anderson.

QuoteThe collaborative genius of Nerd Table shines in the release of the epic "Noise of Earth Part 5" in which they bring together musicians from all gambits. Featuring Joe Daniels (Local H), Geoff Robinson (Blood Circus), David Abbruzzese (Pearl Jam), Kurt Danielson (TAD), Rodleen Getsic (Deftones/Knife Party), Kevin Rutmanis (Melvins/the Cows/Tomahawk/Teenage Larvae/Hepa/Titus) Billy Anderson (Melvins - Houdini), Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers/Melvins/Honky), Terence Smart (Butthole Surfers/Part White), Nathan Calhoun (Butthole Surfers/We Are The Asteroid), 4 members of the underground Columbus band the Indestructible Robots (Brett Atherton, John Tredway, Maxx Davis and Joe Filio), 2 members of Gelatinus Cube (Pat Chase and Sean Castanien), Derrick Hessler (Spindler's Dream), Columbus public access icon Damon Zex, John Bess Jr. (Howard Stern Show), Brian Dellinger (Kirkwood-Dellinger), Matthew Draudt (Eradicate), honorary Nerd Table members Bobby Brown and Andy Sartain, former Nerd Table members Jacob Walker, Aaron White and Tony Osterloh, and topped off in amazing fashion by Lisa Rau of Vladopus9.

Via Stereogum...

QuoteTy Segall, Steven McDonald (of Redd Kross and OFF!), and Dale Crover (of Melvins) have banded together to form a scuzz-supergroup under the name Broken Bat. They've uploaded a single track to their Bandcamp page titled "Take My Medicine," with a parenthetical note that this particular recording is "just a taste edit." It's 53 seconds of claustrophobic aggression, and hopefully there's more to come. Listen below.

Melvins Discussion / Clubbing with King Buzzo
June 11, 2014, 06:52:59 PM
http://theechola.tumblr.com/post/88392543393/clubbing-with-king-buzzo

QuoteKing Buzzo (Buzz from The Melvins) takes on The Echo tomorrow evening, and in preparation, he's graced us with these STELLAR golf tips (he's an avid golfer).  Please do read to the end.

1. NEVER let anyone give you golf "advice" while out on the course because they're intentionally trying to screw you up. This is especially true if you happen to have money riding on the match. Fuck that. Work on your horrible swing after the round and don't let these assholes get into your head. Golf's hard enough as it is and busy body crap like this only makes your shitty round even shittier.

2. Golf carts are for cripples and old women and should be avoided at all costs. I HATE golf carts. Some courses don't even allow you to walk which is total bullshit. I'm a musician which means I'm a person of the great indoors so I NEED to walk a golf course as many times a week as is possible just to keep my head straight. If your under 85 and you don't have a pair of light bulbs for knees then get off your fucking ass and WALK!

3. Remember, you're not good enough to get mad. Unless your like a +3 then you just end up looking like a fucking dick head by cussing and screaming and throwing clubs around. No one, me included thinks this is cool. It's funnier than shit but it's not cool. Ok ok, throwing clubs IS kinda cool and the best advice I have for tossing clubs is to helicopter them as far as you can and try to bounce em off a tree. Remember, if you toss a club and it breaks just leave it where it is. One of the groups behind you will get a good laugh when they find it. I LOVE finding broken clubs. The funniest of them all is finding broken putters. Ha!

4. Don't worry about being a hack out on the golf course. EVERYBODY makes horrible shots sooner or later and everybody who plays golf knows this and they expect it. I'm a hack golfer and I couldn't care less about having a crappy round or looking stupid in front of a bunch of people I don't know, in fact looking stupid in front of strangers is how I make a living. What pisses me and every other golfer I know who gives a fuck about the game off is hack golfers who play slow. There's nothing worse than bad golfers who insist on making you wait. I'm always amazed when I see a father out on the course teaching his kid how to golf while you sit behind them like an idiot. I can almost hear big daddy telling his kid "the lesson today son is it's OK for you to make people wait." Usually these geniuses are too stupid to let you play through and besides, playing through is sometimes followed by you playing REALLY bad as a result of now being rushed. Fuck that. If you're just starting out then do whatever it takes to keep up even if it means using your foot or hand wedge to move play along. Hell, I've seen hand wedges hit the ball as far as forty yards.

5. Whenever you hear "fore" out on the course QUICKLY hide your head. Chances are some dumb ass has waited until the last second to finally warn you that you're about to get drilled in the face with a golf ball going 75 miles an hour. Weirdly whenever you hear fore on the golf course the tendency is to look TOWARDS wherever the warning is coming from. I can't explain it but it's true and I catch myself stupidly doing it all the time. Maybe I WANT to get hit right in the grill. Who knows. Golf is a weird game designed for freaks and social outcasts. Most of the guys I play with have nothing to do with music and stare at me like I'm Charles Manson. There's the wise cracking animator from Disney, the 100 pound ex crystal meth head, a host of golf cheat Mexican illegal aliens, a vacuum cleaner salesmen, a punk ass 11th grader who hits the ball 320 yards and a wide variety of country club type golf hustlers all willing to get up at the crack of dawn and assemble at some municipal course in the greater Los Angeles area.
Life is beautiful and the streets are paved with gold.

QuoteThe Burning of Rome, an avant-garde pop rock band, has just recently released their fourth LP, The Year of the Ox. The album was produced by Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers guitarist, U2/Sublime/Meat Puppets producer) and includes guest musicians Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam original drummer), Dale Crover (Melvins/Nirvana drummer), and Josh Freese (NIN/A Perfect Circle drummer). The group released the album's single, "God of Small Things," earlier this month. You can listen to the single by clicking here.

What's great with you guys is that you still seem to enjoy what you're doing after all this time.
Yeah, that's very true. It's so ideal ; I don't know what we'd do. [laughing]

Was there a time when you wanted to let everything down and to do something else ?
No, not really. I mean... You know... I think not for a long time.

Never ?
No, I dont' think so.

So it was always great ?
It wasn't always great, but I never wanted to quit.

But if you could change something in the past, what would it be ?
[thinking a long time] I can't think of anything, look at everything we did. I'd change something in my earning, you know, mine is getting worse. [laughing] We all want to do that. Dealing with the past isn't always easy, you know, so...

You're not focused in the past ?
Not much. I think back a little bit. I don't think I'd change anything, it's ok.

Did the idea of playing with more people than by the past came from the big band with Fantomas ?
No, not so much. We already had tried something new, pretty much, and that's where it comes from. We needed a new bass player, and it started to make sense.

After Kevin [Rutmanis] ?
Yeah. So we stopped to try it to let it happen. So far, so good.

And is the Business really Big ?
Yes... very big. Yeah, we wanted them to do ; we're big fans.

What's the difference of Nude with Boots compared to the first album with them ?
I think the new album is weirder. But I'm not a good judge, because I'm too close.

What are its specifics for you in a few words ?
No ease with the melody.

Who would you consider as a 5th member ?
Muhammad Ali.

[laughing] I don't think he can play.
We could take on stage with us ; it'd be fun.

And what would be the "dream team" for you ?
Jimi Hendrix and Judy Garland.

Nobody still alive ?
Alive ? [thinking] Los Lobos.

I've read recently this about The Melvins : "They're brutal. Big holes of silence between orchestrated movements. They make your nose bleed, but in a really good way."
Who said that ?

Adam Jones.
Adam Jones ? Oh, he's a very nice guy. He's very good.

So, is that ok with you ?
Sure.

What do you think of Tool ?
I don't think they work enough. They need to work more.

They're lazy ?
Yeah, lazy.

And for fun, what could you say about Mike Patton ?
For fun ? I wish he'd do his best to make a Faith No More reunion. [laughing]

The "Nightmare before Christmas" in December is about to be awesome ; but who's missing for it to be the best festival in the world ?
If we get Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd, it will. [laughing]

And less famous ? Some artists you'd like people to discover ?
We already have lots of bands that we wanted, that's good. Ah... Pete Townshend.

Can you tell what's coming next ? What about your project with Adam Jones ?
Yeah, I don't know when it's going to happen, no idea.

Is he lazy ?
That's part of it, yeah. I'm waiting for him, pretty much. I'll do it whenever he wants it.

So what is he doing ?
What is he doing ? Not much. [laughing] A lot of bit. [still laughing]

Is there recent music that inspires you today ?
New music ? Oh, it's hard... [thinking] Nothing that's in my head, nothing in particular. I listen to a lot of stuff, but something that influences what I'm doing...

Last year, it was the silver anniversary of the Melvins ; are you ready for the gold ?
Yeah ! I'm ready to the solid gold !

Melvins Discussion / Buzz talks about Kevin's departure...
September 07, 2005, 06:21:16 PM
From an interview in Melbourne (Aus) street press 'Beat' promoting the upcoming Fantomas tour:

"It got to the point with Kevin where his lifestyle and our lifestyle just didn't seem to mix.  I think you can fill in the blanks there, without me having to say it.  We decided we didn't want it to happen any more; that's basically where it's at unfortunately.  I personally like Kevin, and I like the way he played bass but there's only so much of that sort of extra-curricular activity in the insanity department that I can handle.  Now if you talked to Kevin I'm sure that he would have a much different view of the whole thing, but that's the way it is for me and I can't help it.  Hopefully Kevin will get it together and, some day, me and him can be friends again."

From http://www.side-line.com via http://www.prongs.org/ministry/news ....

Quote
Although rumoured here and there, Al Jourgensen from Ministry will not join Killing Joke on stage during their 25th anniversary gigs in London. In a chat with Side-Line a spokeswoman for Jourgensen said: 'Raven and Al discussed this possibility in Portland Oregon last year when we were on the Evil Doer Tour. However, due to Al's studio schedule - he is currently working on a re-mix for The Melvins/Jello Biafra - he will not be able to perform in London for the Killing Joke Anniversary celebration.' Nevertheless Paul Raven, Jaz Coleman and Al Jourgensen are currently discussing plans for a collaboration project. More to come as those plans unfold.

Now that should be something to look forward to!
