Portland was really really good. I was right in front of Steven, next to the Buzzo puppet. Steven's playing was incredible. I really enjoy the goofy humor he brings and it seems to have rubbed off on Buzzo and Dale. The energy of this show...man I haven't felt that since the Big Belvins days. The Melvins are always a machine but this show felt extra. Bought a new T-shirt and the Crystal Fairy letter press CD. I waved Dale down after the harsh mellow set and gave him a letter of introduction about the book I want to write. It may have gone straight into the garbage can, but that's OK. It was one of the more vulnerable things I have done and he was very gracious. Sorry this wording is a little awkward, I don't have access to my laptop at the moment and I'm doing voice to text because I don't feel like typing on my stupid phone.

The 20th felt more special than subsequent milestone years. The PNW tour with Mudhoney (I was at the PDX stop) and the boss book was really cool.

It FEELS like I have seen every song on the Ministry setlist except the new one on the last 5 tours. I think Worm and Fish got added back in on the 2019 tour, but yeah....I don't need to see Kicking Machine again....hopefully it gets mixed up on this new tour.

Melvins Discussion / I'm writing a book....
« on: February 20, 2022, 07:51:30 PM »
I don't know how long it will take to finish, how many people I can track down, who will actually want to talk to me, but I am writing a goddamn Melvins book. I figure if I put it out there now, I can't back out later. I *think* the "centering" of the book will be a detailed discography tracing the history of the band through their records, but we will see if that changes.

One of the complaints from critics is the lack of melody and hooks when you strip out the electric guitar. I disagree. Buzz is one of the most underrated vocalists, and even if acoustic makes the songs more avant-garde, the vocal melodies and harmonies are stunningly gorgeous. Civilized Worm.....

OK Melvins super fans, what is the first Melvin song to feature an acoustic guitar? The first one to answer correctly wins a prize! (To be determined)

Album track? Roadbull

Or Chief Ten Beers or Underground from Prick

It's really cool, the lack of distortion puts focus on the vocals and the songcraft.

My big piece of criticism: Dale should have toned it down by half and they should have dropped 90% of the cymbals. The old Lou Reed quote has never been more apporopriate than this release: CYMBALS EAT GUITARS!

Wish list:
Melvins release a 7" with two covers:
Heaven Tonight - Cheap Trick
Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower

That would be dope.

Meh, no portland, melvins are an opening act, expensive tix, will sound like shit, likely to be cancelled anyway.

In 1992, what 3 bands would have gone on tour together to celebrate an album's 30th anniversary (1962)?

Pieced together in my head:
Recorded in immediate response to claims of selling out with Bullhead by European fans. Bullhead came out very late January/ early Feb. 91. Recorded in March/April right before Joe joined. It waa supposed to come out late Spring/early Summer, which was part of the joke with the artwork. Manufacturing delay caused it to be released closer to the Winter holidays, which was not the intention.

From what I can tell, this is the longest break between major releases since they started releasing records in 1986. Just a couple of months shy of three years between Abortion and this.
