I think its Modpods who are opening in PDX and not We Are the Asteroid. And that is unfortunate. Its twee hipster dance punk. I HATE twee hipster dance punk. I made it 30 seconds into a couple of videos and wanted to randomly break things. Edit: I wish it was SubRosa.

One thing I have noticed and bought into is the idea of the Melvins being more prolific at this period in time and hence lowering the quality of output. So discography check:

1986: 6/8/10/26 Songs
1987: Gluey Porch Treatments
1989: Ozma
1991: Bullhead, Eggnog
1992: King Buzzo, Dale Crover, Joe Preston, Lysol
1993: Houdini
1994: Your Choice Live Series 012, Prick, Stoner Witch
1996: Stag
1997: Honky, Singles 1-12
1998: Alive at the Fucker Club
1999: The Maggot, The Bootlicker
2000: The Crybaby
2001: Electroretard, Colossus of Destiny
2002: Millennium Monsterwork, Hostile Ambient Takeover
2003: Melvinmania: The Best of the Atlantic Years
2004: Neither Here Nor There, Pigs of the Roman Empire, Never Breathe What You Can't See
2005: Mangles Demos from 1983, Sieg Howdy!
2006: Houdini Live 2005, A Senile Animal
2008: Nude With Boots
2009: Chicken Switch
2010: The Bride Screamed Murder
2011: Sugar Daddy Live
2012: The Bulls and the Bees, Freak Puke
2013: Everybody Loves Sausages, Tres Cabrones
2014: Hold It In
2016: Three Men and a Baby, Basses Loaded
2017: A Walk With Love and Death
2018: Pinkus Abortion Technician, ?????

I tried to limit this to non-limited edition releases, stuff I could go to the record store and buy when released, either an indy or a good chain store (RIP Tower records). Some stuff could be considered limited because of the size of the pressing but was not intentionally a special limited release (ex: Six Songs). Compilations/EPs/Live Albums count, straight re-releases do not (hence Melvinmania, but not Bulls & Bees + Electro). In those parameters I disincluded Tora, Slim's 8 Track, The End, Making Love demos, vs. Minneapolis, Pick Your Battles, Endless Residency, Smash the State, Third Man, Steven EP, 12'" or 7" single or split,  and any AmRep limited edition ep whether new material or stuff that later got a wide release.

Based on those parameters and qualifiers, Pinkus Abortion Technician is the 45th Wide-Release Melvins title. There has only been 5 years since 1986 when the first EP was released that there has not been a unique Wide-Release Melvins title released to market. 1992 was the most prolific year with 4 unique releases, followed by 1994 and 2004 with 3 each. So, maybe it's not so much quantity but a change in style and perceived drop in quality - which is of course purely subjective.

JD Pinkus has an excellent backing band on his new solo record, which contains an unexpected Red Kross cover.

I agree somewhat with ))))((((. The last two albums I enjoyed straight through were Bride and Bulls. I could probably do without 1/3rd to 1/2 the songs on all of the subsequent releases. They have some of their best work but there are a lot of tunes that are pretty meh FOR ME. After a few spins I find myself listening to a few songs rather than the whole album. On the other hand,  I like that they have hit the "crazy grandpa workin' in the shop for fun" phase and seem to be having a good time, so good for them. I'll still buy the shit and go to the shows :) It's now a life ritual for me.

My old High School garage band had one back in the mid-90's. It's the tits when hooked up with a drum machine and a delay. Edit: Also, nice 14 year-old thread bump!

Nice to see 'em in a place smaller than the Roseland, I think this is the first time a regular Melvins show was played at Hawthorne (other gigs were Melvins Lite and acoustic Buzz). While the intimacy was great, the sound at the Roseland is much better IMO. Great set, 73 minutes per the stage clock. 16 songs, boom, go the fuck home :)

Melvins Discussion / Re: New Double Album: A Walk With Love and Death

I've noticed that everyone considers Love the second disc but I think it's first based on the catalog numbers on the spines (Love is 1, Death is 2).

Love sounds nothing like prick or cod. Sounds like really cool incidental soundtrack music by people who love and respect old forbidden planet etc. Not nearly as 'hard' as i thought it would be. Its lumpy gravy 2017.

Death is wonderful. Im an emotional listener, i uglycried to soberdelic stone sober on my way back to work after picking up the album on lunchbreak. Sue me. While i have enjoyed all the albums to varying degrees, i am very critical. I take every release as being the most current view of what is going on in buzz and dale's heads. I dont feel like ive swallowed any kool aid by enjoying on some level each new album. I dont and have never liked everything, but i have always felt WOW at some point on every release. How lucky i am to be a fan of this band. Even if i dont dig pieces of it ... doesnt matter. NO ONE SOUNDS LIKE THEM. And its that uniqueness that makes those WOW moments hit so hard, and makes me shed a tear when they are really good.

Tl;DR good album
