Melvins Discussion / Re: A Poll
November 24, 2015, 08:29:38 PM
are you gonna analyze the lyrics? or just go off the song it self or what?

personally for me, skin horse is in a league of it's own as far as those songs go. so that's my vote.

regarding the original post, I like suicide in progress a lot, but I think dog island was the most mind blowing one off that album.

vast filthy prison is like kinda sacred to me or something it's beautiful.

but as for albums, bride screamed murder and stag are currently tied for greatest melvins work to date. inhumanity and death is boring but the rest is awesome!

freak puke is up there too.

chicken switch isn't my thing, or thang....

I'm still warming up to everybody loves sausages.

hold it I'm some days seems really cool and other days seems really bland...

I honestly think captain comedown might be my least favorite song they've ever done that I've heard. it's just dull to me. it seems like they recycled a few riffs and tweaked them or something like it just seems like a quick filler song or something and doesn't do anything for me

Melvins Discussion / 2008 gibosn interview
November 13, 2015, 02:51:47 PM
just saw this interview for the first time... that was published a month before i saw them in portland when he was playing a EGC. i wonder if gibson noticed that he doesnt play les pauls anymore lol or even worse, if theyre figured out that he pays someone else to make a les paul for him with a smaller neck lol

eh im with you. the artwork isnt too important to me since im usually at work or in the car when i have time to listen, but ive never cared for the whole "graphic designer" style of mackies.

i do really like stoner witch a lot though. that cover is flawless. and most of the others are fine... just not my style.

i think they like the idea of not being able to predict what your getting based on the cover, and in that they succeed.

hold it in... well i think its a fitting cover.. i havent warmed up to that album much.

"He watches the sunrise almost every day."  I know it's a cover but the melvins always own their covers. There's only one line in the whole song but it works.  I think he sung it perfectly. It makes you feel like he just sang a few verses but at the same time it makes u want more. Captivating! Simply marvelous!

YEEESS!!! i forgot about this one but yeah!

also ggiibbyy high parts are great, surprising they didnt keep that on houdini

of course, im a fan of most all of them, but i really like when he sings normal stuff more intensely like live versions of let it all be, roadbull, and amazon live versus studio. stuff like that i really like.

other than that, my favorite stuff is probably the ridiculous stuff that takes balls like pigs dont let it and influence of the atmosphere...

"when mans only distant relativeUH has descended on his own!!!! you will know!" just anything where hes really giving it hell.

yeah thats exactly what happened to me with all these songs. i just assumed the whole guitar was dropped to d and then "drop d" to get to c. but this makes way more sense with some of the funky tones he gets lol

i was bummed though at the same time cause i wrote a song in that tuning in idk maybe 2009-2010ish in highschool and thought i "Discovered" something... i didnt.

same thing happened the first time i heard Boris and realized i didnt come up with drop A either.
