Kevin would probably be my next favorite Melvins bassist of this century; though watching him live was a bit unnerving.

Classy Kevin!
Looked totally fucked up but played very great and intense, ahah!
All very good to me...

Good news!

What you wrote about your dream reminds the best album I've ever heard: it was a Butthole Surfers album I heard in a dream I had. Every music in the world were mixed together so well, so brilliant and so funny! The best thing I've ever heard! It was supposed to be "Electriclarryland" but it was way better than in real life.

Sooooo why haven't they done this with the other records? It does NOT make sense!

And if it was just a silly joke, huh?
They like that...silly jokes, eheheh!

I'm refraining myself to listen to those songs until the album finally comes out.
Try to find that old feeling of mystery and surprise again, ahah!

The new cover of GPT is pretty damn cool!
Unsane's missing, but they would dig it!

Yep, Drums are matt nowadays.

And then... you have the songs. Have noticed that a part sounds a lot like "Brass Cupcake"... No big deal. I really have to listen again and try to get that negative feeling away.

I'm not worrying, there are some recent songs that are still really great, like "Don't forget to breathe" that could be real genius... with a larger sound, ahahah!
And I really loved "A walk with love and death  - DEATH" album ("LOVE" is cool too, but depends on the mood).
Whatever, I'm off-topic.

...but Merzbow and then Lustmord were kind of "sound designers", did they?

I must say though that  HAT sounded totally great, and Toshi was the engineer..
Sounded totally GREAT, yep!

Well the band himself seems to know what they're doing. Soooo... is Toshi responsible for their sound? Not only!
If they're OK with that kind of sound, you can't really blame Toshi.
That's what is difficult when you're recording: you have to choose a sound. You can make it sound so different depends on what numerous options you decide to follow!

Listened to it again today.
Except "My War", the other songs were such a disapointment!
And it sounds so flaaaaat!

Have to listen again, but I found it grey and somehow tasteless today.
Maybe I got COVID and can't smell anything, ahah!
Then I listened to "Radio One" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience and then "American Caesar" from Iggy, it was so much alive!

Yep, reinventing the steel after writing 78457,5789 songs is... hem, difficult!

I also do agree about guitar riffing similarity between some recent songs (well, for the last 10 years or so). Even in "Gift Of Sacrifice".
Identity? Spiral turns? Badly inspired or self-inspired? I'm sometimes asking myself these questions, as well for my own work.
Maybe there's a little of all of this...
Nothing really wrong, that being said...
