Melvins Album Discussion / Re: PRICK in all its splendor
« on: December 20, 2005, 10:15:35 AM »
pure digital silence is priceless.  it's so fucking funny.
it's the second album i owned (by them) and listened to, after i bought stoner witch.
the album opened my eyes to what the melvins are capable of putting out and playing, and how much they didn't give a shit about what people thought about it, after that they became my fav. band.

Melvins Discussion / Re: The problem w/ Mark D.
« on: December 19, 2005, 05:57:36 PM »
i don't really understand why people have problems with different melvins' bassists.  they were the melvins when they were in the band, and if you get mad at them for whatever input they put in, you also get mad at buzz and dale.  they have a say so of what goes in albums, just like mark d. did.  i personally like all of the melvins' bassists because (maybe someone said this already, or put it in a different way) they put their own thing in it, and the melvins are about change (i think, even if they don't mean to be) and trying new things, and their bassists helped that.  clearly without mark d. or the whole atlantic stuff they wouldn't have as many fans, sold as many records, etc.  lets all love what the melvins have been through, that's what has made them the melvins. yay!

heh...i got a little happy at the end.

Melvins Album Discussion / Re: favorite song from bullhead?
« on: December 19, 2005, 05:36:20 PM »
the first songs of lysol are insane.  i remember the first time i heard it, it was a rainy, cloudy day and i was playing video games.  it was the soundtrack for what environment i was in.  it got me kinda depressed, actually.  very spacey.  still good though.  anyway, getting off topic again, does anyone know why lysol is a one track album, or have a good guess why it is?  it's not like fantomas' delirium cordia where you can obviously tell it should be one track, i think in the melvins' case they should have named the full track one name, it's just kinda weird to me.  i guess with me, albums like that, i like to switch around songs.
yeah, i know norecess' question was for grungehead, just wanted to give ya my input.

i think the album version of boris is spectacular.  it's so sinful and heavy.  the best part for me is the end where there's no drums (that's guitar playing at the end, right?)  buzz sings the end lyrics so well and acts them out so great.  i don't know what the fuck he's talking about, but i sure do love whatever it is.

i agree with all of you, all the songs rock on the album.  when i first heard the album my favs were anaconda and if i had an exorcism.  i was once in a band where we covered if i had an exorcism.  fun song to play.

Melvins Album Discussion / favorite song from bullhead?
« on: December 15, 2005, 07:55:04 AM »
if you have a favorite song from bullhead, tell why.
bullhead is one of my favorite albums of all time, so that's why i picked this album to be the topic.
i'd have to say boris. (currently at the moment)
when i try to "define" the melvins to other people, i usually refer to this song (even though the melvins aren't just like this one song)
it was an interesting choice too to be first on the album.  usually bands would be opening with a really fast or attention getter, not a slow song in this case.
i didn't like it at that much at first, but now i love it.
whenever people call the melvins sludge metal you can refer to this.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Can you Recommend Some Noisy Music?

black dice

Oops, you already mentioned 'em. I found out after I wondered why no one had mentioned Lightning Bolt yet, but you had. Their new record is awesome, isn't it?

oh yes, the new lightning bolt album is great, it beats out wonderful rainbow, even though on that album they have 'assassins' on it.  Did you know the song Dead Cowboy is about President Bush?  haha...the lyrics are so funny to it.  I don't know if anyone has recommended these bands yet, but orthrelm is a good noise band, the boredoms, usaisamonster, pink and brown, white mice, mindflayer, crom-tech, ruins and the flying luttenbachers are all good noise bands.  some are more noisy than others.

thanks a lot guys
i'd love to give it to buzz.
i've actually done a whole portait of the band, but with mark d.
when i met buzz last year i felt too bad that it wouldn't have kevin in it, so i didn't give it to him.
anyway, it was the first time i met him and i didn't know what the fuck to say.
i was thinking about doing the band, but in the same way buzz was portrayed in this.
kinda like their solo albums were done similar.
i don't know...

Melvins Discussion / Dale Crover or Dave Lombardo?
« on: July 07, 2005, 01:32:44 PM »
As a drummer, it is very hard to decide.
Dave L. was in my book the definitive heavy metal drummer, and I think a lot of people can agree with that.
But...
Dale C. is known for creativity, and I think that counts tremendously.
Let's face it, Dave's drumming is done over and over by different metal drummers.
But can you really think of more than a few drummers that can match Dale's style and drumbeats?...no....
If I could find the hell how to tab Dale's drums, I would, but I can't.
Dale is soooooo way more original than Dave, and I'm not saying that just because I like The Melvins better than Slayer or The Fantomas.
If you read any article about Dale, it is all about his creativity and not playing a single conventional beat.
So there you have it, Dale.

yeah, i know it's been posted a lot, i just did it since i didn't see it prompted as a full topic...but anyway, i'm interested in how they do laughing with lucifer at satan's sideshow...i would've never thought that would have been covered.  i'm also interested in it all, but i think that the song dillinger does will turn out good.
