Pinkus Abortion Technician but prior to that Hostile Ambient Takeover was the best since the Atlantic days.

The Golden Age = Six Songs through Honky
The Silver Age = The Maggot through (A) Senile Animal
Personally, i'd reverse the ages there. The Kevin period was the greatest Melvins era ever!

Those are the two classic eras for me.
Yeah, I'd put it similarly.

But to be honest, I hardly ever listen to any album past H.A.T.

Any live recording from any era will work though!

Yeah, for me from Nude with Boots on I tend to revisit less. That is not me saying the albums are not great - I mean, it's the MELVINS! It's just there is almost 40 years of recordings to pick from! I think there have been some standout records since ASA, such as Freak Puke (a true gem!). That being said, I will continue to worship Melvins until the day I die.

nearly everything thru nude with boots is pure gold imo.
for me things get a bit hit or miss after that. but mostly hit.

The question here is about album, so it's more about the lowest low than the highest high (and every record pretty much has a standout even in later years.)

Anything Melvins 1983 including Basses you've got the novelty songs. Not classic.

Freak Puke is a contender but Inner Ear Rupture, Holy Barbarians and part of Worm Farm would be wallpaper moments in a live setting.

Death, Hold It In and PAT have some non Buzz tunes that detract, no need to harp on them here. Also Death is just slow overall.

Sausages is pretty stinkless, but hard to take it as a classic album.

If Bulls and Bees doesn't count, then ASA for sure.

Nude and Bride both should have been two songs shorter (or better) to be truly classic.

I always wish the EP had been fleshed out to a proper album. Stick another 15-20 minutes of material (3/4 songs lets say) and have it be the fourth Big Melvins release!
