Let It All Be & Hog Leg

I was just watching the Salad DVD again since I was high and didn't feel like doing homework, and as I watched Hog Leg, I noticed Dale is playing the drum beat from Let It All Be, skip to 50.18 - If I have rememberd correctly - to check it. You can also hear it a little on the Eggnog track, skip to 2.23 to hear it, but that one's not as obvious as the Salad version.

I hope I don't hear things differently in this condition.

Oh, I also watched Seinfeld tonight - The Burning - and Kramer asked Jerry for Ipecac because Mickey - that Lilliputian - took too many aspirins.

Hate to leave a brother hangin', so I'll reply.

I don't really hear it on Eggnog. I guess the way he hits the high-hat is sort of similar at times, but on Hog Leg he's keeping time with it; on Let It All Be he's using it to accent the beat and he does more opening + closing with it. ("opening and closing" is a very technical term that only expert drummers know - I believe I learned it from Terry Bozzio)

I know it's not exactly similar, otherwise it would have been mentioned here earlier I suppose, but it just reminded me of Let It All Be so I thougth let's make this a thread. But I suppose that's just me. I also think Earth's High Command shows similarities to Helmet's Make Room so go figure.

I only have Salad on VHS, so I'll have to take your word for it that it's more obvious on there. However, I read an interview once where Dale talks about how Buzz came up with the drum beat on Let It All Be and then Dale tweaked it into the finished product. But then again, there's no reason why it wouldn't resemble an older song, especially considering that Buzz and Dale are known to have written drum parts together on older albums (and maybe newer ones?), so your theory is a good one.

Yep, it's also possible that they aren't even aware of the similarity. I mean, it's inevitable that Dale and Buzzo also have used parts from other songs to create their own. Like Buzz admits nowadays, during the early Melvins years they listened a lot to Swans, in early interviews when people noticed a similarity he answered he had never heard of 'em.

Yesterday I was playing Pentastar's Introduction and my dad noticed a similarity with the outro of a Yes song, he even predicted the organs and the tiny solo at the end of the song. He has tried to find the Yes song but he hasn't succeed yet. Having access to a musician's subconsciousnes could be pretty interesting, finding out what their inspiration comes from.
