ill post a quick review as i noticed after a mad week in london that noone has attempted a review in the ....

firstly atmosphere, vibe, feeling of venues, people, cities etc.  is neurotically important to me.
and of the 7 times ive seen the melvins, the vibe at the scala this nite was one of if not the best. maybe it was the fact that so many people at the gig were straight from atp, therefore in a great mood gave for a good gig

anyway,

cant say i know the 1983 tracks but i could not help my head from banging the entire set. they were having fun (what i was on about with above vibe thing) dale and buzz rockin out and roaming around on stage, they really did conjure up a image of the youthful energy of early melvins.
buzzo made a joke halfway through about this being the original lineup. dillard on drums but had to leave as he to do a bit in jail, and lukin on bass (pointing to dale) also having to do a bit in jail and had to leave.
a girl behind me, whom im guessing was from barcelona due to the accent did not get the joke and was screaming out "thats not f'ing lukin" and so fourth. man, as buzzo left the stage after the set she screamed at him again.
cracked me up even more so, in between sets they were playing acdc the brian johnston years, and in between big business and melvins whilst i was having a laugh with my mate and drinkin i said somthing like
"whats with all the acdc?"
girl steps in from nowhere and adds angrily "cause acdc fucking rule thats why"
we say ok not wanting to be shanked and turn to her meek looking boyfreind and i tried to give him a understanding nod, jeez i wanted to give him a hug.

big business killed. i had a great spot leaning against the stage right speaker stack. so i finally had a open view of coadys drumming. man i did not stop smiling throughout. he murdered his kit, as he always does but it was great to witness from the side. they played a new track i thought, not cats, mice or that other one they end with, maybe im wrong but a great track all the same. coady used an electronic piece that had a sample which i thought sounded like the kick from portisheads we carry on. im probably wrong but the sound was oddly familiar
anyway great set

melvins were melvins, and by that they were fucking brilliant. i still had my great viewing position. same set they were playing on tour except revolve replaced honeybucket. i figure due to the 11oclock closing policy of londons main venues and the set running over, buzzo did a very memorable rendition of both the ending of boris and okie from muskogee. okie he was barely playing a slow quiet strum whilst singing ever so gently and dare i say it beautifully over the top, really memorable.

Haha, that girl's reaction is priceless. Too bad Buzz didn't say he killed Cobain, that would have freaked her out even more probably.

I wrote my ATP review from the perspective of someone who doesn't know the faces behind the Melvins folks. Imagine if someone would have believed Buzzo, then it would have blown his mind to see Matt Lukin played in six killer bands that weekend, leaving him realizing at the end of the weekend that MATT LUKIN'S BACK, BABY!!! Or maybe I shouldn't be explaining my retarded jokes.

When the Biz played Eindhoven I had a great view on Coady as well, it was amazing to see him playing from so close, made me appreciated Jared's role even more as well, although I'm always admiring his playing.

totally, as i was trying to say that time through my stoned stupour (is that even a word?i like it). as much as i love the big business albums, i havnt been overly keen for them live. but standing so close to jareds stack and having an open view of coadys drumming is definately a different experience.

When I saw Big Biz I could feel the air coming from Coady's kick drum, blasting right in my face.  It was intense..  it literally blew my mind.
