My guess is that the chances of the Melvins playing north of the border are something along the lines of 0.0000001%.

Buzz and co. have mentioned more than ounce that crossing the border is a pain in the ass they don't like to deal with. On top of that, most of the money they make (it seems) is off of the merch table. Unfortunately, this great country of ours charges ridiculous taxes over all merchandise crossing the border. The Melvins aren't the type of band with the type of money to make-up that loss.

Even though the Melvins CAN play north of the border and could probably afford it, it's just a pain in the ass. Why would they go through the hassle of crossing the border and losing money just to play Montreal and Toronto when they can add a couple of american dates and let the cash roll in? It's a financial decision.

I suggest you get yourself a passport, my friend.

 It's too bad it has to be that way, but I don't blame them one bit. Myself, I never have driven to Canada for a show, and probably never will. It's more of a pain in the ass now than ever, (thanks George W ) I just don't want to deal with traffic jams, 20 questions at the border, paying for a passport and all that. I'll gladly drive the hour longer it takes to go to Cleveland than Toronto.

It works the same way with some Canadian bands. You Canadians luck out with Nomeansno for example. They'll play small clubs and do well in London, Hamilton, Toronto, Peterborough, etc. But it's not worth their time and money to cross the border and play say Buffalo or Rochester.

But then again if Buzz's statement about the situation is true, it doesn't make sense then why bands like The Jesus Lizard & Om are playing Toronto, but not Cleveland or Buffalo instead. They just must have got great/better offers in TO.
